Jeremy having a nightmare for the first time in years the first night he stays at the lofts after leaving his family. And he’s alone in his room and alone is what he’s always had, but his time with Jean , though short, has made him crave companionship. And he looks around, instinctively trying to find that second body, that second bed that he’s grown used to, except this time, there isn’t one. So he sits there in the dark, alone, and debates with himself on if he should go see if Jean is awake. Chances are that Jean is up anyway, right? The man has his own nightmares and Jeremy knows how often he’s pulled from rest.
So Jeremy gets up and makes his way to Jean’s door, but it’s closed, and the room is silent behind it, and Jeremy doesn’t want to wake Jean if he’s sleeping. And a text might wake him up if he is, but jabberwocky might start barking if Jeremy knocks. So Jeremy debates some more, and then bites the bullet— he knocks softly, two taps of two fingers, and waits. He tells himself that if Jean doesn’t open the door by time he gets to one hundred, he’ll go back to bed and just try to sleep again.
And Jean doesn’t come. Not when Jeremy hits fifty, not at seventy-five, not even at ninety. Just as Jeremy’s about to call it a night, though, the door swings open.
Jean stands there, looking both confused and alert, hair mussed from his pillow and eyes droopy with sleep, and Jeremy is so …startled. By the look of him, by the warmth radiating off him, by the idea that Jean had been asleep, and heard that small sound.
Jean stares at him. “Is everything—?”
“Yes,” Jeremy interrupts, and pivots to head back to his room. “Sorry, I—“
“Jeremy,” Jean says, and catches him by the bicep, spins him back around.
Jeremy huffs, but says nothing, just stares up at Jean, who stares back, content to wait him out.
“What is wrong?” Jean presses.
Jeremy looks away. “Bad dream,” he says, and thinks of the times his mother sent him back to bed with an instruction to grow up. “Childish, I know.”
He winces right after, at the poor choice of words, but Jean doesn’t look offended.
“I don’t think so,” he says, and steps back into the room. Jeremy blinks after him into the darkness, and then squats down to pet Jabberwocky where he’s come to greet Jeremy at the door.
When he glances up again, Jean is peeling back the covers, and fixing the pillows on the still made side of the bed. “There is enough room, if you do not mind sharing,” Jean tells him. “Though the beast will be displeased—you are stealing his spot.”
“Oh,” Jeremy says, amused. “Well, I wouldn’t want to put him out—“
“Jeremy,” Jean interrupts. “Just get in.”
Jeremy salutes him. He heads to the other side of the bed with a smile, and when Jean gives him an impatient look for hesitating, climbs under the covers with a smile.

day 2 in a row of waking up at 3 am and getting emotional about andreil bcus of it. neil's gradual shift from running away to running to andrew is truly one of the worst things to ever happen to me. loves him so much he rewrites every instinct he's ever had.
like there are Two moments in aftg where neil acts entirely without conscious input (not counting the nest) and that's when 1. he calls andrew mid breakdown and 2. when he's in the basement and nathan arrives. like is that not crazy? is that not insane?
like neil was conditioned for years to react to his father that way, but for andrew he Actively chooses to stay and then starts instinctively running to him when that's threatened. I'm gonna kill us all.
No, sorry, can we talk about the fact that Andrew "I can deal with my problemas and your problems on my own" Minyard switch to English and said "You aren't going anywhere. You're staying with us. If they try to take you away they will lose." And played instigator to invite the Foxes to the fight so the FBI wouldn't take Neil away. Like, he is so used to not being able to depend on anybody and solving everything by himself, but when it came to Neil, he had no problem in playing as a team. It was probably the first time he even considered the Foxes as a whole as such (including himself for the first time).
I don't know. Growth. I love that.
Andrew and Neil both have insomnia but not in the same way.
Andrew has the type where he has trouble falling asleep. As a child he never felt safe enough to sleep properly, so he got so used to not sleeping and staying up late that even as an adult Andrew’s not able to get to sleep until 2-3 am or later. No matter how tired he is he can lay awake in bed for hours just staring at the ceiling. Sometimes he just has to get up and do something, smoke or watch a movie or do laundry, because he cant stay there with nothing but his thoughts. Neil usually hears him get up and goes to chill with him, even if it means he’s exhausted the next day. Andrews a pretty light sleeper but not as bad as Neil, so once he does fall asleep he can typically sleep the rest of the night as long as he’s not grabbed or disrupted by a loud noise.
Neil on the other hand has no trouble falling asleep. The man can put his head down and fall sleep anywhere and at any time. The guy lives on naps. His problem is that he doesn’t sleep deeply. Because he’s so paranoid from his time on the run, he floats in this half sleep where he can kinda of hear what’s going on around him. He wakes up at the slightest noise, the shift of the bed, even a stiff breeze. He has to be pretty exhausted to really get a good sleep. Andrew always knows when he’s fully asleep because his lips part and he hums and murmers to himself. When he’s really out cold Andrew gets very protective of him, because he so rarely gets the rest he needs. He kinda stands guard and glares at anyone who makes any noise. Needless to say when Neil’s asleep (usually on andrew) the foxes give them a wide berth.
just reread the baltimore scenes and my god. andrew physically having to stop himself from punching neil after he said he was sorry because what do you MEAN you’re sorry???? you’re ALIVE and you’re REAL and IN FRONT OF ME and i’m relieved and devastated and you’re HURT and i didn’t PROTECT YOU and you SCARED ME and you LIED TO ME and the people who did this to you are the ones who SHOULD be sorry NOT you so DONT you fucking dare say you’re sorry, not like this, not right now, not to me
Remember during the winter banquet when Riko told Neil that he had bought off a doctor at Easthaven and Neil was so consumed with anger he punched Riko in the mouth, then in the eye, then got knocked into a table and brought Riko to the floor where he KEPT THROWING PUNCHES, the held on “as hard as he could” to Riko once people started pulling them away from each other and when they were finally separated, STILL fought against the crowd to try and go at him again, AND THEN, after Wymack literally hauled Neil off his feet, Neil was trembling so hard he thought the room was shaking and didn’t take his eyes off Riko until they were seated outside the court on opposite sides of the room?
And this was before andreil even kissed btw.
Sleepy Ilya
There’s a thought I have about the scene where Shane comes out to Ilya that I haven't seen articulated in another post yet:
Their core disconnect in that moment is a cultural barrier.
In the culture Shane was raised in, the ritual of “coming out” with a declaration of identity to your loved ones is seen as an important (and even quintessential) milestone of the queer experience.
In the culture Ilya was raised in, that's not a thing. Ilya has a strong sense of his sexuality in action, but he's never felt the need to put a label on it because he's never imagined a "coming out" scenario at all. I've seen some people upset that Ilya doesn't use the word "bisexual" in this season, but I think this is the reason why. When you grow up in a country where being any amount of queer is illegal, the desire to put a clear label on what you are and announce it isn't as much of a thing (at least in my understanding).
With that context, this is how i read their next interaction:
Ilya: Why are you telling me this? (translation: I do not understand the point of you stating your sexuality in this way, i can tell this is important to you but i do not relate) Shane: Who else am I going to tell? (translation: this is an important coming-of-age moment that my culture says i need to have in order to live authentically, and you're the only person i can have that moment with)
For Ilya, understanding his sexuality has never been a barrier to accepting his feelings for Shane (his barriers revolve around external factors mixed with his fear of emotional intimacy). For Shane, coming to a clear understanding of his sexuality is necessary for him to be able to move past his barrier keeping him from understanding his feelings for Ilya. And we see it clearly: the second Shane accepts his sexuality, he runs full force at Ilya with zero hesitation.
Anyway, I love the particular style of miscommunication this show navigates.
