If It's True
Number One | Una-Chin Riley/Doug
Sweat drying on her skin, bedsheets tangled, he shifts below her, the mattress sighing as he moves to be able to see her face, and what people say about Vulcan emotions being difficult to read is such a lie.Â
âUna,â Doug says, his hand finding her hip, holding on, he holds on just right, âis your physical strength ⊠beyond what would be expected for a human?â
Heâs deliberate, cautious, not waiting to ask what must have inadvertently become apparent as she showed him how much she enjoys touching him, being touched by him.
But love swims in his eyes, tugs at her chest, her belly, the weight of him so good.
Is wanting him, all of him, expecting too much when he canât possibly have all of her?Â
âI should go,â she says, unmoving, eyes closing against the light that streams in through the window. His homeworld is bright with sunlight. Hers is shrouded in fog. A bit too tidy for a metaphor, but thatâs how life works sometimes.Â
His hand stays on her hip.
âIf it's true,â he says, careful, careful, so careful, âthat your physical strength is beyond what would be expected for a human ⊠that you, indeed, have other qualities not usually found in humans ⊠certain enhancements ⊠I wouldnât tell Starfleet. I wouldnât tell anyone. Ever. If itâs true.â
Love doesnât swim anymore. It drowns. A man who is an expert on souls has recognized hers, has chosen to live in both sunlight and fog with her, his devotion like a whirlpool and itâs too much, theyâre too young, he shouldnât have to be her secret-keeper, it would be wrong to let him do that for her.
While she lies and hides and runs away.
His question doesnât need an answer. He knows.
So she keeps her eyes closed and, in the darkness, pulls him closer for another kiss.
