Sarah and Amina Said Honor Killing
Sarah and Amina Said were two American teenagers. They spent most of their life being sexually molested, abused and threatened by their controlling father Yaser. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Yaser found out that his two teenage daughters had boyfriends â which put their life in danger. On Christmas Eve 2007 â Amina and Sarah told their mother Patricia that their father had threatened to kill Amina with a gun. Patricia who worked in retail confided in her co-workers about what was happening at home and some of them gave her money so she could escape Yaser with her daughters. Patricia took both her daughters to the store to get drinks and they never returned. Yaser contacted the police to report his wife and daughters missing. Patricia contacted the police to reassure them that they had to go into hiding because they âfear for their lives.â They first stayed at Patriciaâs sisterâs home (the girlâs aunt) â Patricia told her sister âIf Yaser finds the girls, he will kill themâ. Patricia than left her sisterâs house and they stayed at the home of a relative of one of her daughterâs boyfriends. They were safe and Yaser didnât know where they were. Patricia, her two daughters and their boyfriends was staying at an apartment in Kansas. It was at this time that Patricia found out that her two daughters were sexually active. Â Â Â Â Â Â Patricia was upset that she had to leave her son Islam behind and it wasnât long after escaping Yaser that Patricia was communicating with Yaser by phone. Yaser had told Patricia that he had changed. Amina and Sarah did not know that their mother was communicating with their father. Patricia knew that her two daughters were afraid of her husband and that they wouldnât return home willingly, so she decided to deceive her daughters and made up a story to lure them back home. Patricia told Amina and Sarah that she was driving to her motherâs grave to put flowers on it and she wanted her daughters to come with her. Her two daughters loved their grandmother and accepted. The two teenage girls thought that their mother was driving to their grandmotherâs grave, until Patricia told them the truth â she wasnât going to her motherâs grave she was really going back to Yaser and that the girls would have to return as well. She told her daughters that their father had changed (after only 5 days) and he had forgiven the both of them. The girls were frightened of their father, and were reluctant to return. Sarah didnât want to go home but was obedient. Amina however was shaken up and frightened and refused to go back to her father. Amina instead stayed at her boyfriendâs parentâs home. Amina rang up her aunty and told her aunty that her mother had returned to her father. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The next morning Amina started getting phone calls from her mother. Her mother was trying to convince her to return home. Amina was worried that her father was going to hurt her and refused. Patricia continued to ring her daughter to plead with her to return home â Amina wouldnât budge. Amina begged her mother that she wanted to go back to where they were safe, but her mother continued to persist she had to return home to her father. Patricia decided to go over to Aminaâs boyfriendâs parentâs home to confront her daughter face to face. Patricia told Amina that her father had changed and she would be safe, Amina didnât believe her. Patricia became frustrated with her daughters resistance and grabbed Aminaâs arm to push her to come with her. Amina finally gave in reluctantly. Amina turned around to her boyfriend and said âMy father will never let me see you againâ â Amina was right, that would be the last time she would see her boyfriend. Aminaâs boyfriend said Sarah didnât look too concerned, but Amina was clearly worried. A few hours later both girls would be dead. Â
      On the same day on 1st January 2008 - Amina and Sarah returned home to their father Yaser. Yaser asked both girls if they had sex with their boyfriends; the girls were honest and said âYesâ. Yaser invited both of his daughters out to have dinner with him, the girls agreed. At around 7:35pm Sarah rang 911. Sarah told the operator that she had been shot âMy Dad shot me and my sister, Iâm dyingâ âOh my God, Iâm dyingâ. The operator heard the sounds of the car door opening and the girl on the phone said âOh my God, not again!â There was a sound of some kind of struggle and the girl screamed out âStop it. Stop it. StopâŠâ The door slammed and the operator could hear the girl whimpering. The operator heard someone firing a gun and it was at this time it is believed that Sarah lost her life. The operator did not have enough time to find out where Sarah was located.      Â
Yasers taxi was discovered by another taxi driver outside a hotel. The girls were found inside the vehicle with blood all over them and there was no sign of Yaser. Yaser had shot Amina twice in the chest, which severed her spinal cord. After he shot Amina, he shot Sarah nine times. The phone that Sarah rang up 911 was traced by authorities and the phone number belonged to her brother Islam. The police only interview a few of the family members. The police tracked Yasers phone records and it indicated that he made multiple phone calls to family members (his brothers) before he killed his daughters and contacted them again after he killed them. It is believed that he met up with his brother for coffee and it was after this he disappeared. Some believe that his brothers helped him disappear so he wouldnât get arrested. Nobody knows where Yaser is located, there is no record of him flying back to Egypt under his name â there is a possibility that he could be still in the US. There are some who believe he may be driving cabs in New York. He has been featured on Americaâs Most Wanted and he is also on the FBIâs Most Wanted List.
      Yaser Abdel Said is an Egyptian immigrant when he moved to America. His green card was running out and needed to marry to be able to stay in the country. Patricia âTissieâ Owens was dating Yasers brother, however they broke up and she hooked up with Yaser. The couple married in 1987, Yaser was 30-years-old and Patricia was 15-years-old. Patricia was a Christian and Yaser was a Muslim. Islam states that men can marry non-Muslim women however Muslim women can only marry Muslim men. After marriage Patricia changed â she started becoming more of a Muslim woman to make Yaser happy. She stopped wearing cosmetics, stopped eating pork and fasted on Muslim holidays. She even had to get permission from Yaser to go out and see any of her friends. The couple had three children who were born in Dallas, Texas. Islam their son â followed by his sisters Amina (born in 1989) and Sarah (born in 1990).      Â
Yaser treated his son differently to how he treated his daughterâs. Islam could do whatever he wanted whilst his sisters were completely under his control. Even though Yaser wanted to live in America, he didnât like the American western way of life and he wanted Amina and Sarah to be both dutiful Islamic daughters. The Quran says that it is the man who is head of the family and Yaser demanded total obedience. The two men were head of the household, while the 3 females were under their authority. At one time Amina asked her father if she could go to college to study to be a doctor and Yaserâs reply was âOnly if your husband allows itâ. The girlâs school friend Justin Finn said âHer father wanted the Muslim way of life. She was a Muslim because her father was, but she wasnât sure about it. She wanted to go her own way.â Yaser persisted that his daughters live a certain lifestyle and was always asking âWhy arenât they praying?â Aminaâs friend said that she never wanted to be a Muslim, she felt that Islam was a curse and it was something she was born into â it wasnât her choice. Yaser prayed every Friday with his son Islam, but never with his daughters. In Islam women and men have to pray separately. Â Â Â Â Â Â When the girls were young they went to visit their relatives. The two sisters told their grandmother (Patriciaâs mother) that their father had sexually molested them and this had been happening for years. Their grandmother contacted the police, the police report said that Yaser had put his fingers into his daughterâs vaginas and their rectum and he put his penis into Aminaâs vagina. He also touched the girls on their bottoms and their chests. The girls also confessed to the police that their father was also physically abusing them. Patricia refused to tell the police their home address because she didnât want Yaser to go to jail and she was worried that she would lose custody of her two daughters. The girls ended up recounting their confession and told the police that they had lied. Yaser continued to abuse his daughters â Sarah told one of her school friendâs âhe [Yaser] treats me like a whoreâ. Amina once went to school with bruises and a split lip because he bashed her in the lip when she was wearing braces. Patricia refused to get her daughter medical attention, because she didnât want her children taken away from her. Yaser would spy on his daughters by videotaping them and recording their conversations without their knowledge. Yaser threatened to kill his daughters on more than one occasion; because they werenât living up to his expectations of being obedient Islamic women. Â Â Â Â Â Â
When Amina turned 16, Yaser took his daughter overseas to his home land of Egypt for a holiday. She found out when she was there Yaser really took her there to try and find her a husband (in an arranged marriage). He attempted to get her married to his friend who was 50 years old. She rang up her mother upset and crying and said she didnât want to marry him and she pleaded with her mother to help her to go back home. Amina and Yaser returned home to the USA. Yaser and Patricia decided that it should be Islam their oldest child who would get married first. Islam was expected to get married in 2008.
      Patricia worked in retail and the girls also got jobs working in retail. When Sarah was at work, Yaser would watch her from afar and would get angry with her if she smiled at the customers. Amina began dating an Hispanic boy who she met in class â Amina knew her father wouldnât approve of her dating (especially a boy who was not a Muslim and who wasnât chosen for her) so she told her boyfriend to be careful when contacting her. Amina had to create a codeword to send him â this would indicate to her boyfriend that her dad was going to go through her phone and for him not to reply to any message that was sent to him.  Yaser would go through Aminaâs phone and text message random names in her phone pretending to be Amina; he would try to find out information about his daughter from the replies that they sent back. Amina and her boyfriend decided it was safer to write to each other â however this caused problems as well â Yaser went through Aminaâs belongings and found a love note she had written to her boyfriend. She pretended the note wasnât real and it was written to an imaginary boyfriend. He didnât believe her. Yaser even went as far as putting a recorder in the car, so when Amina was talking to her boyfriend on her phone in the car he could listen to her conversation. Yaser heard the recorded conversation she had with a boy â he bashed her as punishment. Amina warned her boyfriend âmy father is a psychoâ. Yaser was constantly asking his daughters if they were still virgins â in Islam it was a crime for a girl to lose her virginity before marriage. A girlâs virginity was meant to be a gift to her husband on his wedding night, if a girl was not a virgin on her wedding night she could be killed as punishment. Yaser had a feeling that his daughter Amina had a boyfriend; however he didnât know Sarah had one as well. Sarah started dating a Hispanic co-worker. Sarah protected her boyfriend by keeping his name in her phone under a female name. Aminaâs boyfriend gave Amina a second phone that her father wasnât aware off so they could keep in contact with one another. Amina refused to tell her father her boyfriendâs name â because she knew that her father would end up killing him. Yaserâs abuse got worse and Amina and her boyfriend both worked hard to make money so they could run away together. Aminaâs friend at school was also helping her with plans to escape. Aminaâs boyfriend often said that Yaser was always threatening to kill her. Yaser kept calling his daughters âwhoresâ and always said that they deserved to die. To stop his daughters seeing their boyfriends he moved his family to a new house in Lewisville, Texas. Just before Christmas Yaser started talking about taking Amina and Sarah to Egypt with him again to force them into marriage with men they did not know.      Â
The girlâs mother Patricia only knew Yaser for a week before she made the decision to marry him. Patricia has admitted she knew Yaser sexually abused and physically assaulted their daughters, but she never turned him into the police. Patricia was the main worker in the family and it was she who earned the most money. Yaser only worked part-time as a taxi driver. After Yaser killed their daughters, Patricia was said to be living with his brother. According to family members Patricia told them not to talk to the press and not to call her daughters murders an Honor Killing. Even though Patricia was a Christian American, she converted to Islam after her daughters were both murdered. There are photos of Patricia and Yaser dressed up in Islamic wear, posing with guns and knives in Jihadic poses. Patricia has her own profile online which she nicknames herself YASERSGIRL. She also wrote online âIslam is the best one of my 2 kidsâ (Patricia had 3 children). After the murders Patricia kept to herself for quite some timeâ the only thing she said to the press was that âYaser is a good man.â Patricia has opened up to interviewers since â she calls her daughters âangelsâ. It is possible that Patricia was also abused by Yaser - Patriciaâs friend said that Patricia wanted to leave Yaser for years but lacked the courage. Patricia said she was worried if she left her husband that he would kill all of them. Patricia said that her husband Yaser didnât like their two daughters becoming westernized. She still fears that Yaser will return and kill her. Patricia said the only reason she brought her two daughters back home (after they escaped Yaser) was because Yaser convinced her that he had changed and she believed he wouldnât harm her daughters. She also said she wanted to finish the last semester at the University that she was attending in their local area in Texas. Patricia said after her daughterâs deaths â her husbandâs family have harassed her constantly and have even threatened her. She said âHis family have put out to the media that my girls were bad â going to bars, being sexually active, and other lies, just to try to make it seem like their brother [Islam] had a reason for his behaviour.â
      Islam was the girlâs older brother - Patricia and Yaser adored him, he was their favourite child. Islam dropped out of school at the age of 14 and was diagnosed as âmentally retardedâ he was home schooled by his mother Patricia. Islam was hostile towards his sisters just like his father was. He bossed his sisters around and also stalked them. Yaser and Islam were always keeping an eye on Amina and Sarah. It was Islam who escorted them around. Islam (or Yaser) would escort the two girls to the bus stop in the morning and would pick them up after school, take them to work, watch them start work and return to pick them up after work. The two girls were busy with study and work â however their brother and father always made sure they kept an eye on them around the clock. Islam got a job working at Wal-Mart which meant his work schedule clashed at the times he was supposed be keeping an eye on his sisters. Patricia went down to Wal-Mart to confront his work supervisor and demanded that they changed his work hours, just so her son could keep an eye on her daughters. It was Islam who told his father that Sarah also had a boyfriend, which put her life at risk. According to Patriciaâs family members, they said that Islam was a brat and would not be disciplined. The girls told their friends that Islam was a loser and a weirdo. Islam was a lot like his father and had a bad attitude about westerners. He also had a distorted view on women. Islam was aged 19 when his sisters were murdered. Sarah and Amina had to have two funerals â one for the Christian side of the family and another for the Muslim side of the family. Islam demanded that the girlâs boyfriends not attend their funeral service. On television, Islam said that it was the boyfriends of Amina and Sarah who murdered his sisters, not his father. Islam also said to the media that his sisters got what they deserved because they knew the rules and his sisters didnât follow them. Islam was on the news pleading for his father to turn himself in saying âI just hope he turns himself in because, you know, he messed up the whole family.â Islam said that Yaser had a difficult time when the girls started dating. Islam said that his father worshipped Amina and Sarah. Islam has made death threats to his Aunty Gail for speaking out openly to the press about her nieceâs death. Islam has a blog online called Combatting Moonbat News. He claims online that he is in the USA, however his IP said Cairo, Egypt. His mother Patricia said after the girlâs got murdered, that the family was divided and Islam went to Egypt. On his blog he wrote âkill gallâ he attached her email address with his message. He also wrote âI will shot you gall like a dog your time is coming it may take years but you will die by my hands we will show you a honor killing so smok your weed if you can I will get you allâ he also added âKill all themâ. In 2013 he wrote online âI will show you a honor killing gall will be short first I am in dallas going too a gun show I am buying gun and boms to get you all no one is going to step on us you think you can run but cant your time is come will will fight you yaser. All I can say fuck the u.s.a. and kill them all this Sunday you will see I will kill one of you god is god good. Do not play games all the time. Islam Said will not defend Yaser Said.â He also has written angry messages online including âDeath to Americaâ. On a YouTube channel under a video that was dedicated to his sisters, Islam wrote âI will kill you bitch it will take time but I will finish the job you and the Mexicans and tissie you will pay for this you let me in your home befor I know my ay in your home the back room it will be fun to fuck and kill you just tell gall I will be in this week ok baby she can suck all the dick she need and smok all the wedd up.â Islam wrote online that he was going to kill his aunty Gail and sent her a message that he was going to send her to hell so she can say âhello to Amina and Sarahâ. After Islam fled to Egypt, he said he blamed his mother for the deaths of his sisters. He ended up returning to the USA, and isnât as close to his mother as he used to be, he only speaks to her on the phone. Â
      Amina and Sarah both had boyfriends when they were murdered. Aminaâs boyfriend said their love was deep and they planned to get married and have kids one day. His mother Ruth Trotter has spoken out against Amina and Sarahâs shocking honor killing and said âAmina always knew that Yaser was going to murder her, it was just a question of when and where.â  Â
     The girlâs great-aunt, Jill Abplanalp launched a petition on Change.org imploring the authorities to arrest Patricia âTissieâ Said â the mother of the 2 girls. She said she wants justice for them. She believes that Patricia should be tried as an accomplice. Patricia knew about the sexual assault, abuse and the threats that her husband gave to her daughters, yet enabled him to continue and did little to protect them and even lured her two daughters back to him â which resulted in their deaths. Before the girls were murdered, Patricia had Amina withdraw all her money from her bank account and give it to her. Jill said that there is a receipt for this transaction. At the girls funeral, one of Patriciaâs aunties walked up to an Imam and yelled âThis is an honor killing⊠donât deny it.â Family members said that Yaser had killed Amina and Sarah because he saw it as his religious duty to Islam to restore the familyâs reputation. According to the girlsâ Aunty Gail, Yaser called his brother Mohsen on his phone after he murdered his daughters and sent him a message to meet with him for âcoffeeâ. Yaser was extremely close to his brothers and she believed that they had helped him disappear so the police wouldnât capture him. Aunty Gail wrote that her nieces were killed in honor killings âSarah and Amina were murdered for the sake of âcleansingâ the Said name! How did they dirty this name? Both girls, thought for themselves, they saw education as an open door to freedom and to a life they could only dream about! Amina, fought the idea of having to go to Egypt, after graduation, only to be married off to whomever daddy had chosen!â
      There has been a documentary released about the honor killing of Sarah and Amina said called THE PRICE OF HONOR. Honor Killings are common around the world â it is estimated that there are around 23 to 27 honor killings occurring each year in the US âmajority of the victims being female. Considering most honor killings are covered up the statistics would be much higher. Honor crimes, killings and child marriages are often hidden from the public eye. Honor crimes and Killings are different to Domestic Violence crimes that we have in the West. Honor Killings is due to Sharia â Sharia Law is the law that Muslims follow before any other law. Unlike Domestic Violence murders, Honor Killings is a family (or community) affair â family members and community members support the killing of the victim. In non-Western countries where Sharia is law â honor killings often go unpunished as it is legal. When a father (for instance) kills his daughter for being disobedient, the father restores the honor of their family name, which their daughter has tarnished. In Western Countries they carry out Honor Killings but have to cover it up so authorities wonât get involved â they do this by making it look like a suicide or make the girlâs body disappear. In the Middle East, India and other non-western countries â honor killings are common. Females are killed because they disgrace their family name by rebelling against the patriarchy Islamic rules â such as disobeying family, disobeying her father (or husband), refusing to wear Islamic clothing, dating someone who her father does not approve off, talking to a male that is not a family member or her husband, having sex before marriage, refusing to marry someone, if her father hasnât paid a dowry payment or if she has been raped. If a girl is raped in Islam, her testimony is worth half of a manâs â she also has to provide 3 male witnesses â who witnessed the rapist raping her. If a girl is raped and canât prove she has been raped, she will be accused of being a whore and she can be killed as punishment. Males also get killed in honor killings â often so for falling in love and wanting to be in a relationship with a woman that his (or her) father doesnât approve off and they can also be killed if they are gay â in Islam being gay is a crime and is punished by being locked up in prison or getting murdered.           Â
Even though Amina and Sarah were American and wanted to be normal western girls  â Yaser was a devout Muslim and wanted his daughters to also be obedient Muslims. Family members have said that Yaser killed his daughters due to his Islamic religious beliefs. From the time they were very young, Yaser warned his daughters that they were not allowed to have any American boyfriends.
