#frankly INCREDIBLE lore happening over at Widow's Bay
S01E01 Welcome to Widow's Bay! // S01E03 The Inaugural Swim
something that excites me to no end about widow's bay, which is mainly thanks to this show being created by a woman, is how real and normal the women are. they're all of various ages, personalities, struggles and looks. no one looks too polished or cosmetically altered. we don't fall into the regular stereotypes about women, especially not stereotypes about women who are older. these are normal women. patricia is 40-something and lives, from what we can tell, a happy life despite being somewhat of a social outcast. that is her main struggle, not that she doesn't have kids, isn't married, or is 40-something. a woman's value or depth in media is so often depicted by age, marital status and kids, and we hear about none of that! nothing!
and all the other women as well, they have full stories, personalities, motivations, and the show barely ever talk about the things that society wants women to be. and if it does, it's with criticism. richard warren's story is told through sarah's eyes and it is through her story and struggles we find out more about him. ruth's story is, at the end, about her daughter and her grandson; but she is 84, happily lives alone, is incredibly active, and has a full life with many social contacts and happy things going for her that have nothing to do with daughter or grandson. rosemary too; this is just such a lovely average woman that i probably wouldn't like if i worked with her. she is disinterested, off-putting and says the wrong things, and yet, she's not depicted as someone we should hate for that or who is the bad guy. she just.. exists, as a normal woman, with an important part to the story we see.
in fact, you could say things like this about all the women. they are all people you could meet on the street or at work; sometimes unlikeable, maybe confusing, and all very different people with personality and depth. and this all sounds like the i'm applauding the bare minimum, like 'ohhh wow you're so smart, the women are real women!' but there is so much media out there that depics women in such specific stereotypical ways and doesn't just let them exist and be seen as normal humans. and so i'm gonna be happy when i get normal realistic women on my screen. thank you katie dippold.
I can't believe this entore site is not talking about Widow's Bay. Nautical folk horror, it's stephen king it's midnight mass it's also somehow an office comedy. Stephen Root is there. What more could you want?

The right wing British media group GB News has been repeatedly broadcasting claims that LGBT+ teachers are pedophiles, as well as claiming pride marches are celebrations of pedophilia. If you live in the UK here is a form you can use to file an official complaint to Ofcom about this (created by @/biminibabes on instagram):
Three anti-LGBTQ+ broadcasts on GB News in three weeks. The complaint windows are open. Sixty seconds. Be counted.
Please share even if you live outside the UK!!
for anyone who's wondering what the fuck is going on in british politics rn

I find it so beautiful that this little rat's life has been remembered with love for 20 years and will be hopefully for decades to come. Truly a marvel of the internet.
