I'm going to start a series on working in an airport. We see so many travelers who do the wrong things but never admit it's their own fault. Today let's start with wheelchair users.
If you are in need of a wheelchair and someone to push you for any reason make SURE you have at least $20. That will get you a friendly assistant, help with your luggage and stops for the restaurant and food. No we don't have to do any of these things especially if we see dollar bills or 5 dollar bills. You will be pushed but we know not to ask about stops, not touch your bags and make sure you know we are annoyed at you. That's wasting our time and we do tell the gate agents who can remove the wheelchair access at your next destination so you have to walk. They put notes that you were the problem that the next gate agent will see and treat you the same.
Things that do not qualify for a wheelchair but those who do not need it know we have to take you.
*being over 100 pounds aka obese. It's not easy to shove someone over 100 pounds anywhere.
*stubbing a toe. This is why you get to the airport early so you can walk slower.
*not wanting to carry your own bags. They have bags check in for a reason. If you are obese and we have to pull your bag because you thought 5 heavy carry on was okay we hate you. If you can't hold it check it in. Most airlines allow some free check ins and you're allowed only one carry on and a purse so you can't take it on the plane anyway.
*asthma again come early it won't kill you. In fact light exercise is good for it
*your own family won't help you. This means they know you can walk but don't want to enable you. They know you will be rude but they will also expect us to help them. Why? Why do they think we should waste our time when they wont?
More about this topic later.
