Vintage Easter Ads
When we think of Easter we think of family celebrations, church services, brunch, egg hunts, and the Easter bunny..but back in the day apparently Easter to a woman meant flowers, cocoa-cola, chocolates, and new Easter fashion. Take a look. Buona Pasqua everyone :)
Springing into Prints & Patterns
Now that it is officially spring here in Dallas, I am more than ready to start mixing more color and texture into my life. Some of the easiest ways I find is through patterns. I have a board dedicated to prints and patterns on pinterest and find myself constantly saving them as my iPhone backgrounds for a pop of texture in my daily life. Here are a few ways I love my patterns:
1 - Home Decor
I have been on a search all winter for a framed print to help brighten up my bedroom..This print particularly caught my eye because of the color palette combined with the contrasting patterns on the pillows
I have toyed with the idea of putting up wallpaper on a wall in my apartment, especially ones that incorporate metallic. Apartment walls can get bland and boring, but adding this fairly inexpensive idea is kind of intriguing to me....Urban Outfitters has this wallpaper that might be a semi-inexpensive way to try it out
2 - Fashion
Florals seem to be the biggest trend for spring season after season, and I think a good way of breaking that up is by replacing florals with prints. Not only do I love bright and bold colors, I also am intrigued by patterns that turn up the glam factor in a more elegant way

3 - Prints (Black & White)
I love the trend of black and white for spring. To me, it is timeless. I will never get sick of the combination.

Since I am a girly girl who loves florals, I like this take on the black and white created floral image with a little pop of color.
What are your spring favorites?
It doesn’t make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don’t really see ourselves. We don’t watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up and silent with chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don’t see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don’t see yourself looking at someone with love and care inside your heart. There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly yourself.

A Healthy 2013: Breakfast for the Busy Working Girl
I've always valued staying healthy and eating foods that not only are delicious, but also health conscious. Since starting working full time this fall, I've learned the importance of planning ahead. Not only does it help me stay on track, but it also allows me to be able to get a little more beauty rest before my 6:30 wake up call on work-days.
Oatmeal with fruit has always been my go-to meal for breakfast, so when I found this recipe for Banana Oatmeal Cups with Chocolate Chips you can imagine my excitement!! Baking a batch of these on a Friday night before the beginning of my working week (I work Saturday - Wednesdays...crazy right!?) will save me much needed time in the mornings!
So enjoy the recipe! (recipe and images via greenlitebites.com)
3 mashed bananas (the more ripe the better!)
1 cup vanilla Almond milk (or skim milk with some truvia sweetner)
2 eggs
1 tbsp Baking powder
3 cups (240g) Old Fashion or Rolled Oats
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp (42g) mini chocolate chips (or try adding some blueberries instead for an even healthier option!)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Mix all ingredients except the chocolate chips together, and let sit while you prepare the muffin pans.
Spray a muffin pan and/or liners with with non-stick spray.
Stir the chocolate chips into the oatmeal batter.
Divide batter into 15 muffin cups. They should be just about filled.
Bake 20-30 minutes, you’ll see the edges just starting to brown and they will be firm to the touch.
The muffins may stick when hot but are removed easily when cooled for a bit.
A Couple of My Favorite Spring 2013 Trends (via Peoples Choice Awards)
Every season comes new fashion, new trends, and new inspiration when it comes to personal style. Lightweight leather, geographic prints, black & white, and boudior style seem to be the early favorites for Spring 2013.
Not only is it beginning to transition into spring, but it's also getting to be that time of year again...AWARD SEASON! Every year, the fashion is what I look forward to the most. And kicking off the season last Wednesday was CBS's People Choice Awards. Not only did Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift both snag awards, they topped my list for the best dressed.
Jennifer Aniston in Christian Dior - Leather
Right on trend, Jennifer Aniston wears a light leather, Dior dress. Leather is definitely an unconventional spring trend compared to traditional florals, but it helps add edge to feminine pieces. I have been incorporating leather and faux leather into not only my fall and winter wardrobe, but I also plan on rocking it for spring as well.
Taylor Swift - Ralph Lauren
White and black also seem to be big color (or lack of) trend for this spring, showing that white is no longer a "summer only" color. I love the versatility of the different shades of white: creme, pearl, and bright white. This helps the trend not only have multiple vibes, but also helps it be season friendly. Taylor Swift looks effortlessly chic, accenting the white gown with aqua earrings. A pop of color helps to accent this trend, especially bright colors.
This weekend is the Golden Globes, and of course I already have my DVR set for all the red-carpet looks. I can't wait!!
45 Life Lessons
45 Life Lessons Brought to you by an Experienced 90 year-old Woman
Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer Newspaper, Cleveland, Ohio.
“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:
1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step
3. Life is too short - enjoy it
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. 10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11.. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it…
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye But don’t worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23 Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive but don’t forget.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does..
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have not what you need.
42. The best is yet to come…
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.”
