Hey fly. I’m been trying to get more into drawing…like today because I finally come to my senses that I should not waste my whole 4 month of dumber break by sitting around and scrolling on my phone, ANWAYY..I was wondering if you can give me some tips?
I’ve always had trouble with hands and legs and everything else, but mostly hands plus fingers. And ever since I started getting into MOTM more often, the more I realize that your art style is very fantasying to look at, just the way you draw expressions and movement, and ofc I can’t leave out Nort, I love their toonish style, it reminded me when I used to watch old cartoon shows when I was very young.
I’ve heard that if you wanted to improve your drawing skills, you must learn human anatomy and other things. Ofc I been taking inspiration by GACHIKUTA, Lackadaisy, and Cartoons. Mostly I’ve been leaning more into toons. I’ve been looking at the artstyles and trying to break them down into shapes to help me, but no matter what I do or try to look closely, my brain gets all confused and I end up with a horrible drawing that doesn’t look art, especially those hands.
I had come to the conclusion that I want to draw again and someday make an au too. Ofc patience and practice is key, which is why I’m gonna practice my drawing skills during my 4 month summer break until my senior year starts.
And I’ll love if Nort also gives me some tips too? Ofc if they want to, which honestly I don’t mind if they don’t, it’s their decision.

Well the first piece of advice i'd give is that you shouldn't use cartoons or anime to learn anatomy. i know its really boring but you have to use real life references
it doesnt have to look realistic, since you are going for a more cartoony artstyle, but to GET that looney style you gotta learn what shapes everything is made out of. I use a lot of squares which is why my artstyle is so sharp.
another way of studying hands is to try and draw something without lifting your pen. This method is a lot more fun then just trying to copy realism because it forces you to decide what shapes you need to draw in order to make the hand identifyable. the bottom drawing is an example of my way to do it.
Lackadaisy and Gachiakuta are really good reference for stylistic choices, expressions, and more! However they are HEAVILY stylized shows. I dont think its bad to learn off of them, but you may be learning a bit backwards from cartoony to realism. It can still work! but its a little trickier.
once again these are just MY thoughts and MY process, dont take everything i say as word of god. Im still an amature artist too and have literally only taken 2 art classes in my life XD
theres a lot of tutorials on youtube that will help you a lot!
