Something about the vampires that Annie specifically mentions is their soul is not only trapped, but severed from their ancestors. I have a feeling Remmick also had the same ability as Sammie when he was human, given his musical proclivity and the fact he knows immediately that Sammie has the same talent, yet he probably lost the ability to pierce the veil when he was turned.

Remmick spends the whole movie wanting to turn Sammie so he can use his music to reconnect with his own ancestors, but he'd probably end up making Sammie lose his gift to do so since he no longer has that connection. Back at square one.
