Got to love Watsky’s words of wisdom
My PIN number to this day is my second grade best friends birthday. There are people I don’t talk to anymore whose families are still in my prayers. There are shirts I wear to bed from exes of 8 years ago who are married now with kids. And I haven’t found a macaroni salad recipe better than my college boyfriend’s moms’. Our lives are made up of so many people and when people become parts of our lives, some parts remain long after they leave. And in the same exact way, it’s comforting to know there are so many lives you’re still a part of that you have no idea about.
DRYP - an app that keeps your plants alive and happy
Hi Tumblr!
I know I’ve been gone for a while.
In part it’s because I’ve been working on an app!
I keep a lot of plants. I think everyone should!
- They clean your air - They give you something to name - They give you something to take care of - They teach you about care, needs, and resources - They make you look like you’re good at decorating
Here are some of mine:
But some people, because they’re overwhelmed or simply can’t figure out how to start, think that plants are out of their reach.
DRYP is for newcomers and experts.
It reminds you when to water
And it helps you fix what’s broken
If you think the world would be better with this app in it, please consider contributing to the Kickstarter!
I’ve tried to make it worth your while:
Again here’s the link to contribute:

What Did You Say? A guide to writing good dialogue
(Remember all pieces of advice are meant to help guide, that is all. They are not dogma.)
Ever read something and heard the dialogue in your head, and you just stopped. There was something off about it and for a solid minute there you couldn’t tell if the character was supposed to sound like that or if the author just didn’t have dialogue down. Chances are some mistakes were made.
Dialogue can be tricky. There’s no doubt about it.
You need to make it sound like the characters are having a real conversation but if you write it exactly like people talk it can get confusing and sound even worse.
“So how do I write good dialogue?!”
You can usually sense when your dialogue needs work. So here’s a set of some dialogue trick that might help you. When you think something is off with your dialogue use this to help you figure out what and make some changes.
All about that Flow-
It’s said all the time about your first draft, the important thing is to get the words on the page, you’ll refine later. This technique applies to your dialogue, and you’ll even come up with lines you never would have if you spent your time trying to be perfect.
You can even try writing the dialogue first. Get down what your characters are arguing about, planning, revealing, etc. Do it fast, pay no attention to who said what. Just get the words out.
This dialogue can give you a good idea what the scene is about and it might be different than what you thought. Then just go back to it and fill in.
This can be good for when you’re in a slump.

“Which one, should I bury you in?”

D&D 5e: Roleplaying NPCs
Politics have always been a part of D&D whether you know it or not. It plays a huge part in the game! That’s why we have Persuasion, Deception, Insight, and even Intimidation skills! They influence people, and politics is all about influence. Here are some helpful tips for how to successfully pull off a more political campaign.

Decision-Making
What do I mean by decision-making? Well, your NPC is not meant to help the players. You don’t walk down the street and everyone you see greets you and offers to join you in your quest. People have their own goals, aspirations, their own LIVES. Give each NPC, especially the important ones, three things:
Goals
Your NPC should have an obvious goal that they work towards. Maybe that goal is to kill the queen and usurp the throne, or maybe it’s just to look out for numero uno and avoid all conflict. Either way, if your NPC has a goal, you can roleplay the character and make decisions based on that goal. If an NPC thinks giving the PCs that info they desperately need will help them further their own goal (or at least won’t interfere with it), then they will dish out the info. If not, then they might lie, give false information, skirt the subject, or even run. Moreover, if the PCs know what an NPC’s goal is, they can react to the DM’s roleplaying accordingly.
Secret Goals
Much like goals, secret goals guide an NPC’s actions. Secret goals, however, are not immediately explained to the PCs through roleplay or conversation. These make NPCs sometimes act contrary to how the players think they will. A merchant’s “goal” might be to make money for their family, but their “secret goal” might be to eliminate the competition by running other merchants out of business, but not so far as to kill for it. They might lie to the PCs about the fishmonger next door and say they are part of a criminal front, despite it not being true. Use secret goals for politics-driven campaigns or low-combat games, or just use them to make more interesting characters.
Personality Traits
You have heard about traits before. There are plenty of lists online where you can find examples of personality traits, especially creative writing articles and blogs, but here I remind you that a character’s traits will dictate how they act. A friendly character might be prone to help the PCs more than a grumpy character, despite any goals at the front or back of their minds.

Passing Time
When your players leave town and come back, time passes. NPCs don’t stagnate until the players return. They have their own lives! Every new time that players interact with an NPC, make sure something has changed. Even something as simple as having them stub their toe a few minutes ago and they just feel really upset about the whole thing. Players will need to change how they approach the NPC, maybe with sympathy this time over their poor toe. A cleric might even be inclined to bandage it up or use a Cure spell if they are in downtime. Here is a list of alterations to your NPC that could happen in the players’ absence.
NPC Alterations (Roll 1d20)

Ok for some god awful reason YouTube recommend this to me.
It’s a surprisingly well edited fan video shipping Jim from Treasure Planet with… I guess both Ariel and her daughter Melody???
The video starts off like it’s Jim x Melody but then the prince cheats on Ariel with Princess Odette from tge Swan Princess???and then he goes to. Brothel made up of Jasmine and Esmeralda and bangs Jessica Rabbit bc she looks like Ariel?????? Then prince Eric murders his wife and child the end.
Ok so let me break this down for you guys.
We begin with our protag, Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet, arriving on the CGI ship from Frozen to whatever town Ariel and Prince Eric live in ok whatever.
Good honest Jimmy immediately becomes enthralled by the feminine wiles of Melody, the 12 year old half mermaid daughter of Ariel and Eric. Who is 12. Jim is 17.
They have some pleasant chit chat on the beach, as 12 and 17 year olds tend to do. Then Jim, for some reason, is at the ball (birthday? saturday night jam session?) for Melody because I guess 12 year olds have balls in this thriving beach-side society of terrible merpeople human hybrids. Jim appears smitten, gazing lovingly upon Melody’s bitchin’ eyebrows. I wish I knew how to fill in my eyebrows that good.
THIS IS QUICKLY TURNING INTO ROMEO AND JULIET AND I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE
Ariel, meanwhile, watches a 17 year old space drifter flirt-bonding with her prepubescent child with the kind of sweet nostalgic smile only a woman who has felt the touch of an older man knows. The viewer appears to be only person in this universe feeling concerned.
BUT WAIT. Trouble in paradise for Ariel as Jim witnesses Prince Eric and Princess Odette, the vicious homewrecker, from The Swan Princess(was that disney? i dont think that was disney?) sharing a romantic moment in a super public place that isn’t very good for infidelity you wanna keep under wraps.
Mr. Hawkins breaks the news to Ariel, in a tense sea-side moment wrought with raw emotion and tension.
In a later scene Ariel joins Jim and Melody on the beach, where she remembers her days as a hot underage mermaid. Jim apparently now lusts after Ariel? Or did he not lust after Melody in the beginning and it was suppose to be like a sister-brother kind of situation that we where looking too much into? Is he in love with both an older woman and a younger woman that happen to be mother and daughter? I am still not resolved.
Ok so Jim definitely is in love with Ariel who turns him down, despite having watched him lovingly from her window in a prior scene. Jim has only one option…
Go to a brothel! Where Jasmine and Esmeralda are apparently supplementing their incomes with sex work. Apparently disgusted by their hip swaying Jim’s attention is drawn to…Jessica Rabbit. Who also lives in Little Mermaid Town because why not.
ARIEL’S FUCKING FACE SUPERIMPOSED ON JESSICA RABBIT
In a confrontation with Ariel over her supposed flirting with Jim, despite documented accounts of Eric’s own infidelity with a human-bird monster, Eric absolutely loses his shit and attacks Ariel with a fucking sword.
Then orders what I think is the Russian army from Anastasia to pistol whip his daughter unconscious. I am not sure if Eric thinks Melody is the hidden daughter of Ariel and Jim, even though she looks exactly like Eric, or if he’s just totally insane. It’s never really explained.
Eric has Ariel and his own daughter locked up in the dungeons, teaching his daughter that if mommy is a dirty flirt you get the shackles too I guess. Then suddenly I guess a fire starts and shit get’s real for Ariel and presumably Melody.
Jim Hawkins bravely rushes to the scene, facing the fires to save his mother daughter love triangle. Only to find that the flames have claimed their lives and he is too late. There is no word about Eric or the world-wide war between magical mermaids and humans he’s started by murdering the youngest daughter of the literal king of the sea.
Maybe the real treasure was the mermaid love triangle he found along the way.
