So about the "Stain is Barney" crack theory I had

I wanted to try to neatly tie together a possible string of events that lead to everything in some way, also here’s the clip of bubby snapping at Gordon

I am saying he’s starting to recall things because I SWEAR HE’S GONNA RECALL SOMETHING. IT FEELS LIKE HE ALREADY IS.

Additionally, I wanted to point out something, he’s a essential npc or at least a important one since only he seems to display a death screen, but ontop of that he seems to care a lot about Gordon

I just found this kinda sweet, I don’t think Gordon is used to people worrying about him a lot (looking at how chaotic Hlvrai was and how he was certain he was betrayed by everyone but Tommy for a long while during that I think whenever he gets asked if he’s okay he almost kinda reacts with a delay because he’s not used to it)

Tries to save him since he knows he can’t get down from them due to not having a gun

After Gordon complains about the barrels

Apologies and seems to actually be really good at body language since Gordon didn’t tell him to get away only cringed at him being close (also he seemed to have remembered that Gordon doesn’t like this due to gregori doing it earlier)

Immediately reacts to the manhack and knows it’s a danger to Gordon even telling him to watch out before rushing off to protect him

Can tell that somethings wrong at least since he’s seen hovering around Gordon most the time during this

Everyone seems to be on the "Stain is Benrey" train and its variants but I feel like we're forgetting the alternative: Stain is Emmett. Consider:

a) Emmett is the Chekhoviest gun to ever Chekhov's gun. The fact that he was first conceived by Holly (I believe) and then they brought him up again in HLAGE (twice! by two different characters!!) has GOTTA mean something, especially when Gabe specifically mentions "putting him in the next one"

and b) in Holly's Chronicles of Benry, she represents Emmett using Barney's Half-Life 2 model. Benry is only ever represented with the Half-Life 1 model. You know who does use the Half-Life 2 model? Stain.

I rest my case. Also they're just so different in personality and dynamics with Gordon that Stain getting revealed to also be Benry would feel like giving something up. Anyways yeah I'm a firm Stain is Emmett truther and I will be to the end

If I’m allowed to toss in a crack theory about stain, what if he’s just Barney but he got found out to be a spy so he didn’t get the job at the combine and they dumped him in the sewers to hide the body from Alyx and bubby (bubby mentioned he had a hard time getting someone into the job which if a spy had been previously found out it makes sense that the next one would have issues) additionally, this leaves in a interesting possibility that most half life 2 npcs like Barney and Alex who’d be affected the most by how the story had been changed would be at most "off"

Also this makes a scene with benrey slightly funny since benrey does say the name "Barney" at some point but it’s after Gordon says "what’s his name?" (He meant to say this to the other guard but benrey is the one that responds whilst looking at the other guard if im correct)
