I got a new sewing machine last week and this was my first project on it! 

I take my art supplies, knitting, and lunch to work every day and that means I need a backpack with a ton of space. My old one was boring and also falling apart (probably because I got it for $15 at a crappy store). 

This one can fit everything and it’s also the brightest color ever. I found the sunflower fabric at the thrift store for $4 and the rest was fairly cheap or I already had on hand. Overall, I think I spent about $24 for everything - the most expensive thing was the interfacing.

PS - my new sewing machine is named Andy. Because it’s a Singer and my favorite artist is Hozier.

Propagation myth!

Now that valentines day has been around I’m seeing more and more people who has gotten a hoya kerrii leaf. And something I read everywhere is that these Hoya kerrii leaves will never ever under any circumstances grow new leaves unless you happened to get a “piece of the stem”. They even liken the Hoya leaves to painted succulents who die after some months. This obviously bums all of us out, our plants will never grow? But you see, that’s exactly what they said about peperomia leaves!

A time ago my big Peperomia Obtusifolia had these two huge leaves that were not only weighing down the branches but also turning yellow, so I thought hey, why not propagate these leaves? I did. But then I read online that propagated Peperomia leaves can grow roots but will never ever under any circumstances grow new leaves unless you happen to get “a piece of the stem” with it. I knew my leaves didn’t have any stem pieces but I thought whatever and let them sit in some soil anyway! And wouldn’t you know it one of them grew new leaves and became a new little plant!

I’ve looked in facebook comments and such and there are people who claim that their Hoya leaf grew new leaves and grew big, they say it can take a very very long time (even years). The leaf is still cute on its own, and I don’t think it will die like the painted succulents do. Keep your hopes up!

I put a peperomia leaf in the soil (after it grew roots in a jar of water), back in november. It's now march and there is not the least bit of growth, but I guess unless it starts rotting I will leave it be and wait..

Also I have an orchid that grew a flower stalk from the center. It than grew a pup that i removed and planted. I read that an orchid won't grow anymore after it had a flower stalk in the centre. I was thinking of tgrowing it out than, but I felt sorry for the poor thing so I kept it. AND low and behold it gre new leaves and is flowering reliably for me every year!

Do not underestimate a plants ability to regrow!
