I think Subspace. KNOWS he’s evil. I think he KNOWS he’s on the wrong side of history. And he just doesn’t… Do anything about it. That’s his fatal character flaw. That’s. Where it all stems from. He knows he’s wrong but he makes excuses for himself.
Let’s look at canon things, non-canon things, and one thing from entirely outside the game, and see how they. May support this.
Canonically, Subspace is egotistical, inconsiderate, and willing to do anything to achieve his own goals. What are his goals? Serving Blackrock.
Subspace is parentless. He was canonically raised by members of the Korblox administration. He is a SUCK UP to Blackrock.
All of his scientific advancements go towards them and their military. It’s is home. It’s a major part of his identity. It’s impossible for him to be separated from that. And this is. SO. FUCKING. IMPORTANT. REMEMBER THIS.
Subspace also has trouble getting along with people. He’s very isolated, which I think feeds into his egotism. As a child, all of his violent whims and spoiledness and egotism was fed into and encouraged by his superiors. Because he’s so self-centered, people don’t want to talk to him. Then he thinks, “I’m just too good for them, they’re all worse than me.” It’s a cycle.
I think this was. Probably on purpose on Korblox’s part? Subspace is smart. They want him isolated. They don’t want anyone putting rebellious ideas in his head.
Let’s look at some of his dialogue. Please remember all dialogue is non canon and outdated, but I still believe it can be a helpful jumping off point.
So. First thing of note. Subspace does EVERYTHING. “For Blackrock.” Almost like he refers to himself and Blackrock interchangeably. He could say. “Sniff out any of my traitors” or “You must look clean and pristine for me.” But he says. Blackrock.
Subspace attempts to present himself as a direct extension of Blackrock. They’re inseparable.
But I think Subspace KNOWS how ridiculous he sounds.
He laughs evilly. He calls himself The Great Subspace like a fucking magician. HE CAN’T EVEN ANSWER THE QUESTION ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC HE LIKES.
The whole point of this post is that this character that he presents. This evil, goofy, mad scientist. Is not ENTIRELY him.
It’s at this point that I’m gonna stretch REALLY hard. Like “blue curtains representing sadness” levels of stretch.
Think about the word. Subspace. Space. A place. Sub. Inside of or beneath. Subspace.
Subspace. Is. Self aware. He’s guilty. He knows he’s evil. He’s sad. He’s insecure. He’s scared.
He is the subset of. The parent space. Which is. This persona he puts on. The evil mad scientist act.
I think his anger. Is a defense mechanism. LET’S LOOK AT WHEN HE GETS THE ANGRIEST
Subspace is vengeful. He sees Medkit for the first time in years and all he wants to do is hurt him again.
AND THIS POST ISNT ME SAYING. “SUBSPACE IS JUST A LITTLE INNOCENT GUY” NO HE’S AN ASSHOLE FOR THIS. But I think what this is, is.
Subspace (inside) gets scared. Maybe he feels guilty for what he did, or scared Medkit might hurt him, whatever it may be. His response is to puff up like a bird and get mad. SO HE DOES. HE. MAKES IT WORSE FOR HIMSELF. HE PROVOKES HIM. BECAUSE THAT’S ALL HE KNOWS TO DO
