Seeing Kamala basically become a joke as she’s shoved needlessly into every X-Book’s homage cover, into their mainline books, mischaracterised to fuck in NYX and now with Giant Sized X-Men… who is this for? Kamala’s best writing was when she was at home, in Jersey City. I like Champions but it’s not the same. Kamala is good but is sometimes squeezed into a team mom role.
So much of Kamala comes from her civilian characters and they threw her into the part of Marvel that hates civvies.
They killed her in a random Spiderman issue, while randomly using powers she canonically prefers not to use (shapeshifting.) They undid all of her secret identity work when she was made a mutant. They’ve reverted her back to a mindless fangirl of… Sophie Cuckoo? They got Nakia’s name wrong in NYX.
She just looks ridiculous shoved in all these in her even more ridiculous X-costume. They won’t even commit to giving her mutant powers (thank god.)
Who is this for? Being a Big 2 comic book fan is not for the weak because wow the editorial are truly something else. I’m realising why I gave up on reading modern avengers years ago because you really will be waiting years for something good to happen.
