For those who are survivors, a new ribbon is now out for us.

Sibling abuse is also known as: sibling violence, sibling aggression, and intersibling abuse.

It is defined as: A sibling who causes distress on a regular basis (and/or severe trauma from a “singular” event such as sexual molestation and/or rape/coercion) to another sibling. It can come in all forms (verbal, emotional, physical, sexual, etc). If you live in fear around your sibling, you are very likely a victim of sibling abuse.

It is likely the most common form of domestic violence.

No one talks about family abuse and how to cut off someone you’re related to.

No one talks about how horribly stuck you feel when you have to decide between your own mental health and well-being and maintaining relationships with family members who you’ll also probably lose by cutting someone off.

No one talks about how heartbreaking it is to realize that the people you’re related to don’t necessarily have your best interests at heart and don’t respect you.

No one talks about the empty feeling in your gut when you realize some of the people you love will choose a toxic person or an abuser over you.

No one talks about family breakups.
