I think about that writing prompt about a hero ending up in the villains' group chat i reblogged back then sometimes. How i immediately felt like having tsuna in the hero's role, and then very predictably paired him up with the arcos as the villains lol. I'm not sorry about it. <3
So there's tsuna who isn't actually a hero but a nobody civilian, who first thinks this is someone playing a prank on him because no way he just got added to the actual group chat of one of the most notorious group of villains in the world. Tsuna who goes from "um, hi? Can i help you?" But then never actually gets to "i think there was some kind of mistake here" because the arcos are a bunch of yappers.
And at some point between "who the fuck is that?" "Is he one of you guys' underlings?" "Since when are we adding underlings to this group chat?" "Why don't you just hold a press conference to reveal all of our most sensitive information on live tv while you're at it, skull?", skull goes "i added him on purpose!!!" You know, like a liar. He IS the one who added tsuna, and judging by the others' reactions, he clearly wasn't meant to, but he doesn't remember why the hell it was on his to-do-list to do then?? Also the guy's profile picture and name don't even ring any fucking bell. Wait, was he supposed to add him to his underlings' group chat instead?? Ugh, whatever!!!
(Did tsuna... apply to become a group of villains' underling? He doesn't remember that.)
"What purpose?" The arcos continue to yap. "Aren't we always bitching about how nobody ever reads what the others have to say on here??" Skull says. "Well, there you have it! He can keep track of it and let us know of the important things!"

"Why the fuck are you deciding that on your own?" Tsuna reads with a steadily increasing ominous feeling, because these guys sure seem to take this prank very seriously. "Is he even trustworthy?" "Haven't you guys ever heard of a trial period?" Skull defends. "And WHERE is he gonna let us know of those important things again??" They ignore him. "In the same group chat we never read???" "YOU'RE READING IT RIGHT NOW AREN'T YOU???? FUCK YOU--"
"I actually already have a job, so..." Tsuna says, to which the arcos instantly go off on him because "why the fuck did you apply then???" And also "so???" Skull says, because his reputation is on the line here. "Just quit???"
(Did Tsuna really apply to this job, though? He guesses he must have, right? But did he really, though?
For the life of him, he really just can't remember.)
"Well, i kind of need the money, so..." He tries again, and feels himself lose 3 years of his life when they all go silent for a bit.
"You think we make our underlings work for free??" They start talking again all at the same time. "YOU THINK I DON'T PAY MY UNDERLINGS THE JUST SALARY FOR THEIR WORK????" Skull says, outraged. "PLUS ALL THE BENEFITS MIND YOU," he adds, because the FUCK does tsuna take him for???? "Well, i guess he at least won't have any problems saying the things he wants to say to us," reborn says.
"Well," tsuna keeps typing in a momentary lapse of sanity, "how much are we talking about...?"
"What do you mean how much?" The arcos keep yapping. "Didn't you read the contract?" "Didn't skull make you one?" "YES I DID," skull lies. ("THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE WHEN I SENT IT THE FIRST TIME," he keeps lying in tsuna's dms. "I'LL SEND IT AGAIN SOON.") "Do you just commit to things you don't know about?" "Are you stupid?", meanwhile skull sends in the group chat ten times the amount he usually offers, just to make sure to get one over the other arcos about how he's the one paying his underlings the most.
And, well. It sure IS more than what tsuna's current job pays him. Plus all the benefits?
"Am i really talking to the real arcobaleno?" He finally brings himself to ask before the offered money can make him lose all sense of self-preservation.
"Is your current job being a comedian?" Is the first answer he gets. "LMAO" "Whose dumbfuck wannabe villains out there would dare to use our names, let alone pretend to be us?" "Do we have to go on a purge again and remind everyone why they shouldn't do that?"
"Please don't," tsuna quickly types and sends in dawning and horrifying realization.
Is this really happening? Are they really the arcobaleno?
They sure act like it.
"Don't tell us what to do." "Who the fuck asked for your opinion?"
"I won't kill anyone," tsuna takes the opportunity to say while they're on the subject. "And would like to be the least involved possible in any of your killings. Or crimes in general," he adds as an afterthought.
To which the arcos instantly go off on him again because "But YOU applied to work with US????" "Why the fuck keeping track of a group chat would involve you killing anyone??" "Who is it you're saying you'd have to kill? One of us?"
Tsuna feels himself lose 5 years of his life as he looks at the last message in horror, and then another 10 years when they all go dead silent again.
Oh god. He didn't fucking say that???? Oh fuck.
Is he dead? Are they gonna track him down and kill him?
Are they gonna kill him without even granting him his trial period even when he's apparently crazy enough to actually consider accepting the job?
"Where the hell do you even find these people, skull?" They eventually start yapping again, and tsuna starts breathing again. "You let your underlings talk to you like that?" "At least MY underlings actually TALK to me like the fellow human being i am" "debatable" "and you're proud of it?" "It's because even them can tell you're a fucking pushover lmao" "all of you shut the hell up. Does anyone actually have something important to say? Otherwise i'm out of here" "good fucking riddance," skull says. "Tsunayoshi, is it?"
"Yes, but you can just call me tsuna," he says, because what else is even there to say?
"As long as i don't have to hear directly from these guys ever again, i'll even pay you a million dollars a month"
"Haha," he says, because it feels like the correct thing to say.
"Oh, was that funny to you?" Reborn says, because of fucking course he does lmao.
And already, tsuna can see his shortened lifespan (in spirit) flash before his eyes.
i was hesitating whether to share this because it doesn't really advance the story or anything, plus this turned out to be less of a chat fic and more of a proper narrative story, but i figured the interactions in and of themselves would be fun to see haha.

Skull sends him the contract. Tsuna reads it through. Signs it and sends it back before he can think better of it.
He receives a package the very next day with a phone in it. It's the exact same one as the one he has, except it's immediately apparent when he turns it on that this one is at the height of technology. It comes with a second screen where the group chat app is and that can only be accessed when he's the one holding the phone, among other features.
Otherwise it appears to be a normal phone, and Tsuna clones all the data of his phone to the new one before he sends the old one back to the sender as instructed.
As soon as he turns the phone on and logs onto the group chat app, he gets jump scared by the arco all sending him private messages.
They range from "I'm sure you know what'll happen to you if you get any funny ideas with the information you'll be privy to" to "better get a will ready now you're in this line of work" and "hello. Let us hope you last long enough to at least make it past your trial period :)" but also "don't bother me with needless information. All i need to know are the information needed to help me make a profit or avoid a loss"
Which. Okay. Not unexpected from a group of villains, but also very much not needed. He has no intention of getting any "funny ideas" whatsoever, thank you very much. Because he'd very much like to stay alive, so he won't be writing a will either actually. Wouldn't want to jinx it and all that. Especially when, again, he very much plans to stay alive for another long while, thank you very much.
Reborn sends "i know everything there is to know about you" which. Yeah. The phone model they sent him at his address wasn't exactly subtle. Plus they even knew he apparently applied to this job before even he himself did. But even without that, he was expecting the background check.
"Look out the window," reborn sends as soon as tsuna reads his first message.
Tsuna's heart picks up its pace as he hurries to his window. What does he mean? Are they watching him?? Will they be watching him??? Did they send someone to get rid of him? But he didn't even have the time to do anything yet!!!
Should he have negotiated a clause about not invading his privacy without cause too?
"You're not actually looking out the window, are you?" Reborn has sent when tsuna checks his phone again. "The first thing you should have done is duck out of its line of sight. Second is to secure all access to you. And third to grab a weapon in case it's more than just a bluff" "Do you even really want this job?" "Tsk, tsk"
Tsuna looks at the messages with his jaw on the fucking floor. Really?? Is that what this guy plans to be all about? Making him fear for his life and taking years off it while he's at it for shits and giggles?
And at once, he completely understands why someone would be willing to pay someone else a million dollars a month just to not have to deal with him lmao.
"Why would you choose skull to be the boss of you??" Nello asks, to which tsuna just goes "???" because what are they even talking about now? "I mean, you wanted to work for skull out of all of us???" Nello continues to yap, and tsuna goes even more "????" because, well. What else choice was there if skull was the one offering the job?? Or were they all listing the job and he chose to apply with skull? Or something--whatever??? But it didn't seem like they were aware it was something skull was up to, did it?
(Tsuna still does not remember how he ended up with this job.
He doesn't plan to mention it either now he's made it this far regardless.)
"Um, well, i mean," he awkwardly fumbles, "i'm sure you're all very nice—" a pause so he can cringe at himself "—and you're definitely all super impressive!!" More cringing even if it's not untrue zbdksjsk. "But—" another pause because he doesn't know what to fucking say??? What if he says the wrong thing and nello holds it against him and stops him from keeping the job??? "—i like the way skull looks?" He settles on, which is also not untrue, but also not an opinion he can say he's been actively having lol. "He looks cool ^^."
"Lmao," nello sends before he immediately switches to the group chat and sends "rate skull's fit on a scale of 1 to 10. Negative numbers allowed" to tsuna's fucking HORROR AJEKSKS. 😭😂 "UNPROVOKED????" Skull says. "i'll start," nello ignores him, "-10" and then of course, the other arcos waste no time pitching in too. "6" "3" "1, for sparing us from the sight of his face" "5" "2"
"Wow," skull says. "Fuck you guys first of all, like i asked or give a shit second of all, and WHO's talking again????" "Mister i can't move on from my military days himself??? Mister camo clothes is the peak of fashion himself???" "Green AND blond, really??????? You're ugly enough as it is"
The chat, of course, goes fucking crazy zheksjs. And tsuna would be highkey laughing too if he wasn't too horrified at this being his doing lmao.
"Reborn laughed too btw," viper makes sure to let everyone know as nello and skull keep going at each other. "None of your business," is all reborn can say because it'd be useless to deny it when they're all aware of viper's power. "OH YEAH???" Nello turns right on him. "That's not what you were fucking saying last night, bitch" "wouldn't that be because you were naked then?" Fon muses. "Oh?" Lal says at the same time. "Do share with the class" "yeah??" Skull says, also at the same time, because they're all yappers lest we forget. "I don't need confirmation to know i'm the funniest guy you guys know"
"You see our issue," verde sends tsuna as the others continue to yap in the group chat. "Even if we did read the group chat, we'd still end up dead before we could get to the point."
Tsuna breathes out a laugh, half nervous, half disbelieving, and half genuinely amused. And yes, the math is wrong. Well, you won't believe this, but tsuna's never been all that good at math.
Anyway. He DOES very much see the issue. So that's why they all sent him private messages so he could contact them privately. That's where he's supposed to let them know of the "important things", huh?
You'd think the convenience of a group chat instead of sending the same message to everyone multiple times would make them get over... whatever they have going on between them, but who's tsuna to tell them how they should behave, right?
What ARE those "important things" tho?? Especially if they're going to each have their own meaning of it if viper's message is anything to go by. Should he ask everyone the question and see what they say?
"Skull-san," he decides to ask skull first. He can call him skull-san, right? Or should he call him boss instead? Would that be more underling-like?? Well, he wouldn't fucking know that. "I was wondering--" he's in the middle of typing when skull sends him a message too that only says, "TSUNA" "Yes?" Tsuna quickly deletes and sends instead. Shit. Did nello tattle on him??? But he complimented him so he should be fine, right??? Or has something "important" been shared in the group chat and he missed it?
Oh wait. Does skull want him to answer to what he first sent him? What was it again?
"Yo tsuna" "don't ever listen to anything the others have to say about me, 'kay?" "I'm the one paying you anyway, so you can just ignore them" "actually i'll even give you a bonus for every time you withhold information from them and it gets them in trouble lol" "plus a promotion if it ends up killing them LOL"

"Beats me," is the helpful answer he gets. "I can survive anything so i don't really care. Just make sure to remind me you're still alive every now and then so i can keep you on payroll" can they STOP manifesting his death oh my god-- "i don't give a shit about the others either," skull continues to be oh so very helpful. "Oh wait, DO let me know if it looks like they're about to lose against heroes!!!" "So i can show up and make sure they DO lose" "LOLLLL"

"Leaving me on read, are you?" Reborn asks as tsuna's rethinking his life choices, because of fucking course he does ZHKSKS. 😭😂 (I love reborn so much.)

"I mean, possibly?" Tsuna tries to soften the blow. "It's in the plans, but nothing's confirmed yet," he lies a little, because he very much did sign the contract already.
But he can always quit, right? So he'd rather wait for that first pay check if he even lasts that long before quitting his job. He can't just quit it cold turkey like that anyway, so it all works out.
"You found another job?" Gokudera asks, trying to not look as unaffected by the news as yams, and looking like the most abandoned and kicked puppy of all puppies anyway.
"Yeah. It kind of just happened."
The restaurant's busy and he should move on from their table now he served them their orders, but he's not the type to slack off and their regulars like him, so he's allowed to have these little chats as long as things aren't too busy.
"But i don't even have your number yet," yams says, in that particular tone that always makes tsuna's cheeks grow warm.
"Well, it's against policy..."
"Just until your last day, right?" Gokudera says.
Tsuna scratches his cheek, feeling bad for denying them when he really likes them too, but... "Yeah, but you won't know which day it'll be, right?" It's also against policy for them to share their schedules with their customers.
"What about meeting at your house?" Yams tries. "I know where you live--" Gokudera kicks him under the table and shuts him up lol.
"Hello, welcome," tsuna greets some new customers before he turns their attention back to them. "Sorry, you were saying?"
"He said, what kind of job it is?" Gokudera says.
"Oh, sorry, but i'm not allowed to say."
"Really? Then where it is? Which company?"
"Hm. I'm not allowed to say either..."
"You're going to work in the supers sector?" They immediately put 2 and 2 together, at which point the other regulars in the restaurant stop badly pretending they aren't eavesdropping on their conversation.
"With supers?" "Our tsuna?" "What if it's dangerous?" "No way--"
"But i thought you just happened to end up with this job too and weren't interested in working with supers?" Yams asks, and the look of betrayal on his face stabs tsuna right through his heart.
"Right--"
"If i knew it was on the table and you were looking for another job, i would've--"
"At which company?" Gokudera scoffs.
"How hard can it be to make one?" Yams fires back. "Like you're not thinking the same too"
"Guys!" Tsuna cuts in. "Look, it just really happened out of the blue, i swear. The offer was just too good to refuse"
"But we all agreed to a pact of non-action--" gokudera kicks him under the table again zhzkskkd.
"What?"
"He meant, whose backstabbing b-- i mean, whose super are you going to work for?"
"Hm--i can't... say either, sorry..."
Gokudera narrows his eyes. "It's not gonna be dangerous, is it?"
And tsuna, as always, feels warmth spread through him. "Not at all." It shouldn't be anyway, right? "But thank you for worrying. And i'm really sorry for dropping this on you so suddenly."
Yams immediately smiles at him with the force of a thousand suns, the smile reaching his eyes too, to tsuna's relief. "Don't worry about it! It's not like we can only see each other here, right?"
"Right!" tsuna perks up, because he'd really like it too if they could keep in touch somehow.
"But, you know, tsuna. If this is really all so sudden... Does kyoya know?"
Tsuna snorts. "What?" He laughs. "You're saying that like he's my dad or my boyfriend or something."
Yams laughs too. "Right?" He exchanges a glance with gokudera who is not laughing, and is still not laughing when he looks at him like he might as well keep laughing while he still can. "You totally don't need his permission for anything."
"Right? Hahahaha."
"Hahaha, yeah. Right, so..." He grins, trying to soften the blow as much as he can. "He doesn't know yet, does he?"
