It wasn’t until he saw the shadow across the sand that he looked up from his work. He squinted against the desert sun - and frowned in surprise. It was a young boy. Not one he’d seen in the city. Not even dressed like the other boys. Daniel stood up.
"Hello," he said cautiously. "Are you lost?"
He’d been wandering around for what felt like hours now, lost and confused, unable to find anyone he knew, or just someone to talk to for company. His feet were beginning to ache, and as he approached a few structures he thought about sitting down to rest in the shade, but came to a stop when he saw someone up ahead. Maybe there was hope after all! “Hi,” Chuck responded, voice parched. Lifting his hand he gave a small wave to the fellow, and nodded, “Ya could say that. I – I don’t even know where I am. Last thing I remember was… getting out of the Maze.” Maybe he hadn’t even made it out of the Maze? Maybe he was still somehow in it, and this was all just a trick. “Do ya have any water by chance?”
