I'm baffled that it's become a news story.

In 1996 I had a meeting with the then-studio boss of Warner's, Bill Gerber, and he mentioned that Michael Jackson had called a few days before having heard rumors of the Elliott and Rossio scripted Sandman to say he wanted to play Morpheus. That was all I ever heard, the film never went further than a couple of scripts. That's all I know and I don't think there is any more than that to be known.
