Dear PJO fandom, I understand that books sometimes contain nonsense about dyslexia, but why do you know nothing about dyslexia and think we're so stupid?
Sorry in advance, your dyslexia jokes are so stupid that I'll soon want to spit in the face of anyone who makes another fucking absurd ableist joke about dyslexia and about dyslexic Percy as well.

Btw, it's actually really sometimes sad being in the PJO fandom—people just terrified to do anything even slightly differently, for fear that the show's rabid fans will come swarming in and start spewing hate at them. And inevitably, they'll accuse you of racism where absolutely none exists.🫥
I certainly understand their obsession, but that doesn't mean I condone the destruction that some of them are causing.

I find it strange that there are AI bots of actors like Leah Sava Jeffries, Walker Scobell, etc. in apps like Polybuzz, which is often(not always, but still) used for perverted purposes very often. 🫥
I don't know about other people, but if I starred in some show as a teenager and after that people started making AI bots with me in some Polybuzz and doing all sorts of things there with "me"💀
Then I would be disgusted and not very comfortable, that somewhere without my consent my "AI version" exists, where some weirdos can possibly imagine things with me that I would never agree to with an unknown person.
This doesn't seems like as "fans are just joking"
It's literally:
"there's now an AI version of you that strangers can play out romantic/sexualized scenarios with 24/7."
I know that for someone this is normal, but I personally would be against it😞
People who unsubscribe their favorite author because of ableism/eugenic are also valid!🥳
I've heard of people unfollowing their favorite authors for being transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, or racist.
But have I ever heard of anyone doing it because of ableism or eugenics? Nope! But that's also really important!
Ableism is everywhere🌍
I agree and I don’t demonize all ableists, saying they ALL are like that because they are evil and on purpose—many people lack information.
But still... will I unfollow them for this or deny them a like?
Yes, I probably will.
I have no interest in promoting ableist ideas, some bullshit about autism (even from autistic/ other disabled people themselves, they can be ableists too), etc. Yes, I understand why, and I refuse to promote such crap any further!!!
And yes, I'll likely unsubscribe from anyone who misuses terms.
The most common and painful one is "hyperfixation."
I don't want to be a 24/7 teacher explaining (like to children) to every ableist why it's wrong to use this term if they're not neurodiverse and what it actually means.
(No, "I bought a bunch of Sailor Moon merch" isn't hyperfixation.)
I'll just try not to promote this nonsense to the masses.✌🏻
If you recognize yourself as an ableist, it's okay. Try doing research and learning not to be an ableist.
I need more stories about one autistic person healing another autistic person. Romantic or queerplatonic, doesn’t matter!
Ahem, here's the idea: Autistic person #1 (diagnosed/undiagnosed/self-diagnosed/doesn't even realize they're autistic yet, whatever!)
is only just starting to notice how much their parents, friends and society in general exhausted them, broke them down, forced them into masking, etc. Even if they don't know the words for it yet, they slowly realize they need to get rid of that and become "more themselves."
And then, after some time, they meet Autistic person #2. Someone who KNOWS they're autistic (diagnosed/undiagnosed/self-diagnosed, whatever) AND WHO HAS ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THEIR WHOLE JOURNEY 😃
And this person acts in the most autistic way possible!!! Completely unapologetically autistic.😼
Autistic person #1 finds it so strange, like:
"Why aren't you scared to do that?"
while another part of their brain is screaming:
"THAT'S LITERALLY US!!! OH MY GOD THIS PERSON IS SO MUCH LIKE ME!!! 😱🤩 But… how?🧐 What seems similar here and why here too much things that similar to us?"
So they become friends. Autistic person #2 talks about autism, infodumps constantly, and still sometimes struggles with insecurity and fear around acting autistic too (because past trauma is still trauma!).
And Autistic person #1 finally finds someone… who communicates like they do. Through infodumps! And they finally learn there's a word for it! But they still stay quiet a lot, even though they have SO much they want to say, because in the past people— even friends— mocked or scolded them for infodumping.
And it's like:
Autistic #2:
"Oh, you do that too? You're autistic like me, it’s simple!"
And Autistic #1 is just:
"Uhm… maybe??? 😧"
But over time, after learning more from their new friend, they realize they really are autistic. And they go through that stage where the word "autistic" starts feeling familiar. Like home. Like you.
So eventually they stop constantly thinking:
"What if I'm not actually autistic?"
Of course they still get those silly doubts sometimes, like a lot of autistic people do, but then they look at themselves, their life, their experiences, and realize there's just no way they could've been wrong!!!
And together they fight masking, sometimes fall into ableist beliefs or inaccurate concepts/terms about autism, and eventually Autistic person #1 naturally ends up going through autistic burnout after years and years of masking that’s only now starting to come off.
(Well, it makes sense that if you've been abused for so many years, it should result in something.)
Autistic person #2 has already been through autistic burnout before and just… allows Autistic person #1 to exist through that collapse. Supports them however they can, can sometimes help with everyday life(dishes/cleaning)
And then after that there’s probably more romance or something, idk🥰😘
Btw, it would be great if they both had other conditions. Neurotypes, mental disorders, illnesses, and chronic illnesses—whatever the author wants. Many autistic people aren't just autistic, that's okay! And humans are complex creatures, so it's okay if someone has six or more different conditions! I'd love to see it, as one of those...
(This is partially based on my own experience but… I DIDN’T HAVE AN AUTISTIC PERSON NEXT TO ME WHO HAD ALREADY GONE THROUGH THIS AND COULD HELP ME 💔😭)
(Ukrainian translation below/Український переклад нижче)
The concept of autism is so diffused, autistic people are so dehumanized, there is so much discrimination, stereotypes and myths (disinformation) around us—that many people will believe any nonsense about autism.
EVEN AUTISTIC PEOPLE THEMSELVES!!! 😭
If someone says:
"Autism is an intellectual disability, it's a disorder/illness, and it's caused by vaccinations!!!"
Or:
"All autistic people love the color blue🥰It's a sign of autism!"
Or even:
*Any sign of other neurotypes or mental disorders or even chronic illnesses is visible*
And people:"Oh, they have autism, so that's also a sign of autism!"
(Or even without a diagnosis or understanding that an autistic person or even an autistic person themselves might say, "Oh, I have trouble with math...it's my autism's fault!" or "it's probably autism!"...when it's dyscalculia...)
There always will be people who will also believe this harmful nonsense. Even autistic people. Even autistic people who know perfectly well that they are autistic.
No, ma'am, if your child has clubfoot or sore legs, that's not a sign of autism—get them checked by a doctor, please😭
But it's even worse when doctors say it.
So these are literally signs of dyslexia? Or maybe signs of intellectual disability?
And they like:"Pffft, it's autism's fault!"
Really?🤨
Btw, the same thing sometimes happens with VAST. (Variable Attention Stimulus Trait, name for ADHD but without ableism)
But still, people don't dehumanize it that much.
But if you write something humane about autism or try to explain to someone that some kind of misinformation is involved, then...you'll very often get hate!
In other words: Stop blaming autism for everything, stop confusing other conditions, neurotypes, disorders, and illnesses with it. If someone tries to explain something to you about this, you don't always need to immediately become aggressive towards that person. If you see something like "autism is not a disorder, but a neurotype" or "autism is not bad"—there really is no need to be aggressive towards that person.
Percy Jackson's characters, the demigods, belong to neurodiverse people and our experiences. As well as to neurodiverse people who don't know their neurotype/neuroprofile.
Characters of privileged neurotype belong to people of privileged neurotype.
(what everyone is used to calling neurotypicality).
No, Percy doesn't belong to the "weird" kids who consider themselves weird just because they watched Hazbin Hotel (not hate, just an example).
No, this is not about you. You have EVERYTHING. Almost any character you take will be about you.
Exceptions are when the character represents something other than their neuroprofile.
For example:Piper McLean—Native American, Annabeth Chase—blonde, Percy Jackson—Abuse (By his stepfather at the beginning),etc.
Leave characters of marginalized groups to people of marginalized groups,
without trying to erase our experiences, stretch an owl onto a globe(The explanation of the metaphor will be below.), or dilute our experiences with water.
Yes, Rick's representations is far from ideal! But his intentions was clear. And I criticize him for this, don't worry. 😌
"But what if I know I'm somehow different and I feel like I relate to neurodivergent characters? I can't not associate myself with them! It feels like my experience is being erased..."
First of all, that's a really good observation!
Second, go do some research: even AI (just be careful with it, it can be ableist. Like pretty much everything on the internet or human! lol), online tests, Google info, Reddit, TikTok, Tumblr—to figure out whether neurodivergent people's experiences resonate with you.
Third, if you already know you're "not like everyone else" and that you're definitely somewhere among neurodivergent people, and Percy's experience resonates with you—then you can absolutely feel like Percy's experience belongs to you in every sense, don't worry please😭💖
"Stretch an owl onto a globe"—A metaphor means an attempt to create something absurd, artificial, or unrealistic. When you try to turn something into something absurd, or when you try to pass one thing off as another or turn one thing into another. The point is that an owl is an animal with a specific shape and size, while a globe is a round object, and it's impossible to "stretch" an owl onto a globe. Athena wouldn't like that metaphor 🤣(just kidding, I'm not serious).
