ugh why does every fucking thing i love attract the worst fucking people ever??

(for context: i am AuDHD and get really intense hyperfixations. like REALLY intense. like i wont shut up about the thing and literally lose sleep and forget to eat over thing. that’s why i am so passionate about politics and why my music is so political)

in high school, i was extremely hyperfixated on star wars, like REALLY fixated. i studied canon and EU lore for hours a day. my dad called me a walking Star Wars encyclopedia at one point. but of course, the fandom was being infiltrated by the worst fucking people imaginable (mostly gen z and younger millennials who grew up on the prequels) when the sequels came out. i am not a fan of the sequels myself (i do actually think they were lowkey ass), but the way these toxic prequel fans treated younger fans over having anything positive to say about the sequels (some of who were literal children) was disgusting. people were getting sent death threats and being told to kill themselves over liking certain characters or movies. and this toxic behavior spread to any new “Disney slop” Star Wars these “fans” deemed as “objectively shitty”. and unfortunately, a lot of these people were misogynists who still believe “Star Wars isn’t for girls” and if you’re a woman/fem person who likes Star Wars, you must only like it because you think the men are hot or think Grogu is silly, and that women can’t actually be “nerdy” and knowledgeable in predominantly male-occupied fandoms. a lot of people being targeted in the sequel hate were women and girls (to prove that all women are “fake fans”), but men and boys were also receiving hate for “not liking real Star Wars”.

i am not part of the Star Wars fandom anymore (i just lost interest) but my biggest hyperfixation now is vocalsynth, which is a fandom i’m sorta newish (like maybe 2 years) in. the hyperfixation was so strong that like 2 weeks after i discovered vocaloid (i knew what it was, i just never really got into it before, and i had strict parents when i was a kid in the early 2000s so i had a lot of restrictions on what i could listen to) i purchased synthv for my computer, and about a year after that i bought a new MacBook to run logic pro.

it is so disheartening to see something i saw as a fun hobby and a way to share my life experiences with others through music, and an awesome community for finding new music also attract the worst fucking people on the internet. i am a black queer person who’s been writing music since they were 11-12 and who’s been playing music since they were even younger, and it’s really sad to see a community who i thought would want to hear the music i put out into the world become full of shitheads who will judge you for your skin color before even hearing what you have to say. i don’t even know if i want to promote my music on tiktok anymore after seeing how those racist fucks treated slayr for exploring a new music type.

y’all just don’t think black people should exist and that’s fucking disgusting. if you’re a bigot in any fandom, fuck you. fandom is for everyone and no one wants you in our space.

Z*é took Chloé's miraculous, her lesbianism, her backstory of having abusive parents, her past as a bully, her dad, her redemption, her plausible storyline as Fury and I am supposed to think that she's not just a replacement? Just a better written Chloé that the writers couldn't pull off so all her development has already happened before we even meet her?

Damn, that's so well-written I can't wait for Marinette's lie to be exposed between season 8 and 9 so when she also becomes an irredeemable monster at the ripe age of 15, a new character becomes the protagonist and gets with Adrien and her backstory is that she lied to her previous boyfriend about his father's death so now that she is in Paris she wants to only tell the truth, so she gets the ladybug miraculous while Marinette gets akumatized for the 4th time to defeat her. Oh, this new character is also a blue-haired wasian 14 yo girl who wants to be a fashion designer. Oh, and since Marinette is the worst, she eventually gets disowned by Sabine and Tom so they ship her to her horrible aunt in London to keep the new character as a substitute daughter. Oh and let's call this new character Mariette too, and she is said aunt's daughter making her Marinette's nearly identical cousin. The next 4 seasons will have at least one Marinette slander episode and one Chloé slander episode each, until it culminates with the two joining forces in the season 12 finale to take over the whole world.

Then they'll tell the audience that we didn't give them what they wanted, but what they needed to hear.

Also Marinette will be confirmed on the creator's Twitter to be a neo-nazi because she had beef with Lila and since she is now retconned into being part Jewish it means that she hates all jewish people and wants to kill all of them.

Also they paint Gabriel as a saint who never asked Marinette to lie to Adrien about him being Hawkmoth, he just asked her to never let Adrien know the villain he was, but to make him remember the times he tried to be a good father. That is totally not textbook manipulation, and even if it was, Marinette should have known better and couldn't afford to make that error.

Also Gabriel comes back to life and approves of Mariette and Adrien's love and he gets redeemed because he tells Adrien that he never asked Marinette to lie to him, so Adrien and Mariette hug him while Marinette gets shipped to London to her aunt. Oh and the creator will joke about Marinette's plane crushing on its way to London.

(a very white) someone just told me "i'm sorry [for supporting TADC despite knowing how racist they are], i'm very attached to this show and its characters" and it got me thinking about how (primarily white) vegans often have that underlying assumption about how animals are worth more than brown kids, and how the american education system teaches that the bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki were necessary and just how we'll always be lesser than to you, won't we? there is nothing we can ever do to convince you that our culture our history and our lives are worth more than say, your favorite blorbo or your moral superiority or your money. we're silent and docile and we smile along when you make fun of our slurs because the ones who aren't are quietly exocommunicated, banned to the corners of the internet and hated into nonexistence. white people can say they don't want to talk about racism but that was never a choice for the rest of us. it's not something we can just "agree to disagree" on because that choice, that option, is privilege in and of itself. and for those who do speak on it, why is it that you think you know what appropriation means better than we do? why is it that the mountains and mountains of people of color screaming truth are slowly silenced by the people who can post a twitter apology and move on from it all? apologies don't necessitate forgiveness. that white creator who laughed along and wrote prejudice into their work and spread it everywhere like a virus doesn't necessarily deserve forgiveness no matter how sincere they are.
