You can call me Mag or Maggie.
I'm a writer in her late 30s, and I have started this blog to keep a record for myself, and occasionally reblog motivational posts, or memes that feel very relevant to me in the moment.
I mostly write fanfiction, but I do have some original works on the go.
You can find me on AO3, where I'm finally posting my work after a decade of writer's block, and Bluesky where I don't know what I'm doing.
Went to make notes on "La Luna" on my phone and found a file I'd forgotten about, where I'd detailed the opening of a pretty dark idea... only I apparently never wrote about the motivations behind it, so now I have this dark idea ruminating in the back of my mind, waiting for me to put some of my own clues together to figure out the story.
This is going to be one hell of a distraction XD;;;

Newest word count for BWOBI: 210,197 words
I deleted some, added some, reworked some, fixed some issues in the last chapter... I have a paragraph I need to desperately fix but I'm okay with that lol. It's not for a few chapters so I can panic later XDD
I didn't plan to be doing this much editing? But it's good. Having a self imposed deadline is keeping my concentration so I'm happy to keep going over this. I was only meant to be doing chapter summaries so I can get going with GROGI, but I unashamedly enjoy reading what I've written.
Anywho, I WAS going to release one chapter twice a week.
I'm apparently a bit impatient... We're walking into week 2 with 4 chapters behind us already XD;;;
I don't know if I'll do one or two tomorrow. Some of the chapters to come are quite chunky so they'll definitely be solo, I don't want to totally overload people, but the next one is on the shorter side so I feel like... it won't be enough? Somehow? I don't know, this is new to me XD;;
Once I've gotten the new chapter/s up tomorrow I'll probably work on "La Luna" - it's a Kevjean one shot, we'll see how that goes. If nothing else I know that getting back into "Choice, Not Destiny" will be nice. I was enjoying writing that, and I have so much to do with it yet!

Guess I just like giving him happier endings.
Writing is lonely in a specific way that is hard to explain to people who don't do it. not lonely like isolated. lonely like you are trying to build a bridge to another human consciousness using only words on a page and you will never actually know if you got there.
You send the thing out and maybe someone reads it and something moves in them and they have no way to tell you exactly what moved or why and you have no way to know if it was the thing you meant or something else entirely.
You're working in permanent uncertainty about whether any of it lands. and you keep going anyway. you have to develop this strange faith in the act itself, in the value of the attempt separate from the outcome, because if you need confirmation every time you sit down you will never sit down.
Most of the writing happens in a silence that never fully gets broken. you learn to be okay in that silence or you don't last.
Pros of rereading your own fics: Holy shit this is amazing
Cons of rereading your own fics: How is there always a typo I missed every single time I read this
there will never be anything as funny as the mutual disbelief between long form and short form fic writers about each other's style.
short form writers look at people writing 100k+ fics as though this is some sort of talent given as part of a fae bargain, that the commitment required shows some sort of ungodly mental fortitude.
meanwhile long form writers look at people writing 1000 word one shots like god I would cut off my left nipple to be able to say anything concisely. i would love to play with multiple ideas. free me from the shackles of this child I have birthed. i love them but I now must take them to t-ball and doctor's appointments and they're going to destroy everything I own.
no one is too young to write fanfics and no one is too old to write fanfics!!!!!!!
