for @thearcanecat - my apologies, I lost your initial ask. however, I know you asked for Coin Flip and showing up injured at your enemy’s door! I think where I set this might be cheating a little, but I didn’t really think of a way for this to work post-Vow. Hope you still like it!
Dakkar places a hand to Kal’s cheek, letting Healing seep into him. That familiar soft blue glow sings through his skin, starting to erase the red and raw cuts on him. Surely, it turns pale instead of marked, rejuvenated. He’s running a little hotter than the norm for him, but it’s not concerningly so. Just…noticeable.
“Yeah, yeah,” Kal huffs, even as he doesn’t move. “I got it. Bossy, Dak.”
Dakkar lets out a low hum of disagreement, still focusing on his work. His eyes narrow—he’s sure they’re also flashing with light, bright and intense—as his fingers trail down Kal’s jaw, smoothing away a particularly nasty bruise there. Kal seems to tilt a little further into the touch—gaze snapping up to him as he does so. It's intent, honestly—one Dakkar can't really push away even if he has something more important to place his attention on. Still, he's nearly…
He takes his hand away from Kal's face, stepping back to get a slightly better view. Kal's brow furrows at that, looking almost annoyed.
Dakkar looks for a moment, and then nods.
“There. That should be good enough.”
This is handiwork Dakkar can be proud of, really. When Kal had walked in, somehow still looking as proud as a peacock, what he looked like was much worse. His nose looked like it had nearly broken, more than one bruise was strewn across his face, and those cuts looked like they had come from the scratch of nails. Now, it's like nothing has ever touched him at all.
Dakkar had hardly been expecting a visit this late at night, half-expecting Kal to still be out on the town. But he supposes the other man can still surprise him. He's done what he can, though.
“Why are you even here?” He can’t help but wonder, still. “Surely you could have healed yourself—these injuries aren’t awful.”
Dakkar almost doesn’t notice the beat of silence before Kal gives him a crooked grin. If he didn’t know the other man so well, he might have missed the flash in his eyes too.
“Well, perhaps I just wanted to be healed by a dashing Prince!” he chirps. “No need to deny myself that. And it certainly wouldn’t hurt to let you test out your own abilities more, with further practice and—“
Dakkar sighs, realising why he’s here in the midst of all that rambling. He raises an eyebrow, unimpressed.
“You need to recharge, don’t you.”
Kal stops talking. His mouth slips shut instantly. It’s the kind of silence that immediately proves Dakkar right.
Dakkar softly laughs. “Well, that explains it.” He doesn’t bother to hold back a hint of teasing in his voice. “Did you really enter a fight when you weren’t fully charged?“
“Well, it’s not like I lost!” Kal protests. "This is hardly anything—you should see the idiots that decided it would be a great idea to gang up on me." His voice turns a little smug. "They'll be regretting that for a while yet."
“One of these days, someone’s going to get a shot in on you that actually lasts, Kal.”
“I’ll believe that when it happens, Dak.”
Dakkar snorts. “You’re hardly invincible.”
“That has yet to be established!” Kal gestures out, as if what he’s saying is obvious. He cocks an eyebrow, grin turning ever-so wild, more assured than it should be. A joke, perhaps, but also… “Personally, I think we have no proof of that yet. For all we know…” he trails off, widening his eyes to communicate it further.
“Third’s Strength, you’re ridiculous sometimes.”
Unfortunately, Dakkar can feel a small grin trying to tug its way onto his face. He doesn't say anything, but he feels it seems far too obvious regardless.
Given Kal's growing smirk, he has a suspicion that feeling is correct.
