I honestly think that something a lot of people don’t understand about artists, is that when we call ourselves out for "bad anatomy" or say "ugh I chose weird colors, I don’t like it" or "shading is awful, sorry", we arent trying to insult ourselves.

It's not always that we're trying to make fun of our art. I mean, yeah, sometimes that is the case. But not always. It's us acknowledging what we did wrong and realizing that we very much do have the skill we need to fix it.

And sometimes we take note of it by telling others. "Hey, I realized I made an anatomy mistake." And that usually generates responses of "NO YOUR ART IS AMAZING ITS OKAY NO ONE EVEN NOTICES!" But saying you think my art is amazing and that no one else noticed isn't going to change the fact that I noticed. I noticed what I did wrong, and I'm aknowledging it. And if I'm upset, it's because I didn't notice in time and start fixing it like I know I am capable of doing.

For me, I know what I'm capable of when it comes to art. I get mad when I make a mistake after it's already too late to fix. But it's not me expressing my self-hatred or now-low self-esteem. In fact, I, personally, find my self-esteem is unaffected by my art mistakes, or what other people have to say about it.

It's me realizing that I have the ability to do better, it's my inspiration to try harder and learn more and do what I love by makbig more art. Better art.

Aknowledging a mistake is not the same as being self-deprecating.
