Before going to the Tsuchimikado Island, Rokuro had left Benio a hand-made Ohagi- Man plushie as a departure gift and had somehow sneaked it into her wardrobe when she was asleep.

On arriving to the Island, Rokuro found his backpack filled with his favourite curry packets and a little note by Benio which said ‘Take care’.

I have been working on this comic “Undergrowth” for the past month and I’m so happy to finally be able to share it with you!! This is the reason I haven’t been posting as much art on tumblr. I was very inspired by people who depict personal growth as a potted plant, and I wanted to do my own take on that idea: I think of it more as an entire forest or ecosystem within a person.

I hope reading this will inspire you to keep improving as a person even though it’s a process that is so difficult and convoluted.

Yuzuru once tried to teach the men of Amawaka how to cook. Several kitchen fires later she gave up and they went to eat at a ramen place.

Yukari named Mayura when she was born cause Seigen could have named her something weird.

During the two years that Rokuro and Benio were training, occasionally Mayura and Benio hang out to experience more social things like going shopping, visiting the local cat cafe, relaxing in an onsen, and jogging at the park with Rokuro for a change of scenery.

At one point they made ohagi and chocolates at the Otomi household which were quickly consumed soon after finishing them.

During winter, Sayo would try setting up a mistletoe trap at their house WHENEVER Mayura would come visit.

So when Shimon and Mayura would open the doors, Keiji would brought out a camera and we all know what would happened next.

If Shimon and Mayura disagrees about the “yknow” Sayo would just push Mayura towards Shimon.

Afterwards Shimon profusely apologizes for his sibling’s antics, and Mayura’s like “it’s fine.” while like blushing before Shimon asks Mayura out on a lunch date to make it up to her for the awkward situation. She agrees before hugging him goodbye and leaving.

This leaves him with a mix of feelings like happiness and nervousness, relief, and excitement and when he goes back inside Keiji gives him like a grin and Sayo asks for details. There wasn’t a point in keeping it for them, so Shimon told them what happened and they both offered- or rather demanded to help to which Shimon resigns and agrees on the condition they won’t spy on them.

I’m pretty that those photos that Keiji takes is going into like a collage of photos for their wedding or photo album.

In the winter, Rokuro likes to use Ohagiman as a giant fire to roast stuff and keep warm.

On Yuzuru’s birthday, usually the Amawaka gang gifts her some of their house’s root vegetables. However, when Mayura finds out about her birthday she’s ecstatic with the chance to repaid Yuzuru-san for her kindness. Mayura enlists the gang’s help with a birthday party surprise for Yuzuru. By help, it was most like distracting Yuzuru with their gang antics while half of them helped Mayura set up the place for the party while she cooked.

After Yuzuru deals with some of the Amawaka gang’s troubles, she goes to find Mayura-sama for her lessons as the new head. Reaching the living room she notes how odd it is for the lights to be dark before the lights are suddenly turned on and everyone in the Amawaka family congratulates her on her birthday.

At first Yuzuru’s stunned by the surprise as it’s never happened under Seigen’s time as head or his grandfather’s for that matter. She notes inwardly how the house has changed under Mayura’s rule as a smiling Mayura comes out with a birthday cake. Grateful for the surprise and later root vegetable gifts, Yuzuru thanks everyone and the rest of the night is spent on being in each other’s company with a bit of some roughhousing of course.
