Wasteland Souls was a fan project given away at Wasteland Weekend 2017. It’s twenty-one short stories in the spirit of Mad Max: Fury Road. Genfic, with mature postapocalyptic themes.

If you like Max Rockatansky and Furiosa, their Wasteland friends and foes, and postapocalyptic sci-fi, this is for you. In the Wasteland, only the fierce or the fortunate survive. Yet road warriors and outcasts alike search for refuge, connection - even hope.

The Wasteland wants to live, too…It can’t do it alone, no more than we can.

You can donate to any Australian fire relief fund. Consider these:

Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities - many of Australia’s First Nations people have been affected by these tragic circumstances, this fund helps them directly.

ARC TRC – National Wildfire Bushfire Program – supports volunteer wildlife carers looking after burned and injured animals.

Wild 2 Free – Kangaroo sanctuary and wildlife feeding program - they were hosting animals displaced by the fires, then got hit by a fire directly. Help!

Support for families of Australian volunteer firefighters killed fighting the blazes - Set up by the New South Wales (Sydney area) Rural Fire Service.

A: I am open to prompts. The only things I will NOT write are scat and animal abuse. I write everything from extreme kink/dark/violent fic to fluff and genfic. I prefer not to write for the warboys if I'm writing in the MMFR fandom. If you want to avoid the big organisations and help the battlers more locally on the ground, here’s an incomplete list. The firefighters are vital and working hard, and some local stations are set up to take donations directly. But if you want a more animal-focused bent (because that’s what I do)…

Mallacoota Wildlife Shelter (koalas and wildlife in the thick of the East Gippsland fires in Victoria right now, bank details on the Jan 2nd post)

Wires.org.au Wildlife rescue

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, in NSW.

Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Hospital, in South Australia (coping it hard since Xmas day)

Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, in SE Queensland.

Ipswich Koala Protection Society, in Queensland.

Koalas in Care (NSW, takes paypal)

Vets Beyond Borders is a large organization which will accept donations, and also coordinated AVERT - the Australian Veterinary Emergency Response Team. Vets, vet nurses and vet techs can register as volunteers there.

And there are other organizations that can be helped in other ways.

Medical Pantry, a collective which gathers unused or surplus medical supplies for redistribution. They will be helping supply what they can.

If you have space in your home, Airbnb Open Homes lets you register your home for displaced people or relief workers to offer them accommodation.

There are fodder drops being organized for livestock in affected areas but…well, some of these areas are not accessible yet and nobody’s quire sure what’s alive down there. But there will be a need for fodder and agistment paddocks for horses and livestock.

Some shelters or vet hospitals will also need things like feed/waterbowls and dog crates to house wildlife. A local organisation might have a pickup point near you, or some clinics will have staff registered to go as volunteers when asked.

In addition, some local knitters/sewers/crafters guild will be turning old cotton and flannelette material into pouches and wraps for injured wildlife. If you’ve got a local group, see what they’re doing and what you can donate out of the cupboards. I know Wonderground in South East Melbourne has a sewing day this Sunday (5thof Jan) and they are local to me, but see which groups are local to you.

For anyone who might be writing fic in order to raise money/donations for a cause, please remember not to mention that anywhere on AO3. It is against the Terms of Service to charge money for fic, even if that money is not going to you, personally. Please don’t mention commissions or donations or fundraising or patreon or kofi etc etc in a fic or on your profile. ❤

Nope. You’re still breaking their TOS by having a site like ko-fi directly linked, and if anyone finds that out or someone reports you, you can lose your entire account. They have to enforce these rules in order to protect us from copyright laws. It’s why for decades individual fandom creators used to put “I do not own this work or profit from it” at the start of every fic/chapter.

What you can do, is say “follow me on tumblr” and promote your ko-fi on your tumblr. But I’ve seen people do the link to their ko-fi/patreon without explicitly mentioning them and still losing their accounts or getting hit by warnings cause someone reported them. (The one person I knew who outright lost their account just kept doing it repeatedly despite multiple warnings, like a doofus, so that was on them.)

(I think there may be exceptions for certain charity drives, but I don’t think ko-fi and patreon are protected by that)

Hi! Former AO3 Abuse team member here! It’s been a bit, so I’ll admit that my knowledge may be slightly out of date. But generally speaking you cannot:

Link Directly to:

Kofi

Patreon

Amazon

Your private book site where you sell your writing

Any other fundraising site such as gofundme etc

If you link and are reported your work is in danger of being deleted, but you will be given a warning and time to fix any issues.

You also cannot mention that a work was directly commissioned with $$, hide the rest of your work/novel/chapter/ or in any way paywall the remainder of your work. Things like “support my writing here!!” are usually no go.

General phrasings like trade, requested, asked for, etc are OK.

Joy is correct in saying linking to your tumblr which advertises your kofi or fundraiser is ok.

If you are reported, the AO3 team will do their best to let you know EXACTLY what works and what phrasing is not allowed. They do issue a blanket “responsible for the rest of your works” statement so be thorough.

AO3 WILL NOT DELETE YOUR WORK, BAN YOU, OR IN ANY WAY REMOVE ITEMS WITHOUT WARNING. IF YOUR WORK IS DELETED YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL CONTAINING THE DELETED WORK. KEEP YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS CURRENT. NEVER USE A STUDENT EMAIL ACCOUNT.

How strict is the "no commerce" rule?

We want the Archive to remain a non-commercial space. That means that it isn't the right place for offering merchandise, even fan-related merchandise. Linking to your personal page (not, for example, an Amazon author page) is fine, even if the personal page includes some items for sale, but the Archive is not advertising space. If the abuse team issues a warning or sustains a complaint about commercial activities, the original poster can always appeal.

What about charity drives?

The Archive will host fanworks of any origin, including fanworks created in response to charity drives or other challenges. A link to a charity drive to explain the origin of a fanwork is appropriate. Solicitation itself, however, should take place outside the Archive. We concluded that this policy was the easiest to apply fairly to everyone, given the wide range of possible solicitation activities.
