How are my fellow Sobiwan shippers feeling now that the Obi Wan teaser trailer dropped?

To be honest, I’m glad that I’m mostly in another fandom now, because otherwise I’d be bothered that it’ll mess with my headcanons lol. I’m cautiously optimistic and curious about it. If nothing else, it’ll be cool to see Ewan back and see what else he can do in the role. Mando and Boba Fett have been really interesting series’, so I think it’ll be good :) After watching those, I’m less worried that they’ll give him an unnecessary love interest!

I've never thought about obi-wan and sabé as a ship, but I'm intrigued. Can I hear more thoughts about it?

that was actually my first ever star wars ship and it’s still dear to me haha

but for a long time i was under the impression that obi-wan was 19 in episode 1 for some reason? it wasn’t until quite recently that i found out he was supposed to be 25, and i think sabé was around 15 or 16

i’d always liked the idea of a friendship forming when they were both teens and then maybe a romantic relationship later on when they were in their 20s or 30s, but i understand that age gaps make many uncomfortable and i get why people don’t like the ship bc of that

i’ve seen some people aging up sabé and i think that’s fine, and i’ve also seen people ship dormé and obi-wan, which is also interesting to consider since they’d be closer in age!

but either way, i love the idea that sabé and obi-wan would have had a friendship of sorts, probably filled with sarcasm and constant digs at the other - i also looooove the au that sabé goes to alderaan and obi to tatooine and they stay in communication over the years both out of necessity and out of a deep friendship

Look I’m just saying, definitely not yelling, that Lucasfilm is really sleeping on the story potential of bringing back Keira Knightley as Sabé. She was Padmé’s handmaiden and best friend, she deserves to know what happened her friend. I’m aware of the comics but just imagine if they’d gone with Sabé finding out the truth through someone who was actually close to Padmé instead of going through hoops for years? Obi-Wan and Sabé will be the two unlikely people they thought to ever find solace in and have more in common than they ever imagined. Both lost their best friends, both lost the institute they believed in and had dedicated their lives to (Obi-Wan to Jedi Order and Sabé to the Republic), and they both never quite know what exactly went wrong with the one person they loved the most in their life. Sabé finding out about Padmé’s final hours, being filled with grief and guilt on not doing enough to help her friend. Obi-Wan finally being able to talk to someone who understands his loss, and doesn’t outright blame him or the Jedi because Sabé gets it, she was there and saw how much the Jedi struggled. Just these two bonding over losing their best friends Anakin and Padmé , the most important people in their life, and learning to make peace with their situations, learning to move forward, and also becoming life long friends they can trust out there in that galaxy.

Aw, thank you for the fic rec @sobiwanfan! @hof-story’s Hand of Fate is a delight, and she’s got a sequel in progress.

I’d also recommend @sweet-christabel‘s excellent Clone Wars-era arranged marriage fic Mutually Beneficial, and @khaleesa and @bratanimus‘s epic Born of Light (both are slow burn, so prepare yourself for the agony).

@khaleesa and @handmaiclen are co-mods of @sobiweek - there have been some great and varied works posted over the two theme weeks we’ve had so far, I really recommend checking it out! And @sweet-christabel runs @sobi-fans - she and @sobiwanfan help keep my dash seasoned with Sobi goodness :)

My first Sobiwan fic is The Decoy, a TPM-through-Sabe’s eyes fic. It’s followed up with Together, Apart, a collection of Sobi through the years. I’ve done a few other bits too, but not for a while.

There are some gorgeous quotes from the ROTS novel, (if you ignore the part where Padmé places all her self-worth in the fact that she’s Anakin’s wife...) It’s awesome to see them used in edits like this.

Keira Knightley was asked about being in The Phantom Menace and playing Sabé in a spin-off film or series and while there is not even a hint of a plan for it, I find peace in knowing that this interviewer has at the very least put the concept out into the universe

This is the most enthusiastic I’ve seen her be about Sabé, and she’s still sooo dismissive! I get that she was young and everything, but it would be nice if she could be more mindful of the fact that there are people that love her character. She’s super sweet and diplomatic, but I just get the impression that she thinks it’s all a bit silly :/ Not sure how accurate that is, though. Just a feeling.

Ever play that Obi-Wan game for Xbox? It has a stage where Sabe gets kidnapped by Tuskans on Tatooine whilst Padme is with Qui-gon, and Obi-Wan has to rescue her and escort her to safety. Obi-Wan's dialogue implies he is very worried for her, and Sabe also sounds extremely grateful for the rescue, too

I haven’t played it, but I know of it. Keep meaning to, because I think I have a copy somewhere! I think it’s a cool little extra story for that part of TPM. Especially considering that Obi-Wan doesn’t have a whole lot to do for that section of the movie. Nothing that would be interesting for a video game, anyway.
