I'm reading a study on how nurses define the term 'drug seeking', and what makes them more likely to put the 'drug-seeker' label on a patient's charts and. well. let me just throw down some quotes

"Needy, unable to cope" (<- you try coping with chronic pain)

"Comfort seeking" (<- you mean.. having a preference for not being in pain.. how criminal)

"Using or trying to obtain drugs on a long-term, chronic base" (<- do you understand what 'chronic pain' means.)

"Asking for pain med then returning to sleep."

"States he’s level 10 pain, but does not appear to be in pain (or ‘5= on appearance)." (<- it is well-known that chronic pain patients tend not to display pain in the same way as acute pain patients)

"Dramatic response to pain" (<- notice how this directly contradicts the comment above. you cannot win)

"Gets IV med, then leaves unit to smoke or walk around" (<- wow requiring medication and then going off to do something you needed pain meds to be able to do is so suspicious)

the article itself put it best when it says: “some comments depict patients trying to apply sound pain management principles, such as continuing to take medication for persistent pain”. no wonder all the other literature on the matter says that women of colour are the most likely group to be labelled drug-seeking. this shit is entirely vibes-based (read: based on the prejudices of nurses and doctors)

My submission for @creatingblackcharacters ' Melanin Beam Challenge: Tyreen Calypso from Borderlands 3 I know I'm late but I'll be damned if I wasn't going to post this

Design notes and original design under the cut

I always hoped Tyreen was AfroLatina, when I played my first time around. I so so wanted Black punk rep. Only recently did I learn she's actually Latina and white. Soo, naturally I chose to redesign her for this event.

She's easily one of my favorite characters in BL3. She's so spunky and contrary to popular belief, I thought her "annoying streamer" vibe was funny and charming. She was cunning and had so much confidence in what she was doing. I would let her eat me.

I gave her "emo braids". Borderlands is not creative with Black hairstyles despite having characters live in a Mad Max style apocalyptic wasteland. Half of her head is shaved and grown out so I gave her that here as well. Lot's of texture with 4c coils, straight hair and braids, perfect for a girl with lots of texture in her design already.

I also gave her coat feathers the Puerto Rican flag color scheme for funsies. Her VA is Puerto Rican and canoncially Tyreen speaks Spanish in-game.

reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.

i do find the rules around clothes fascinating because of how made up it all is. we invented the idea of covering our bodies from the elements because we lack fur like other mammals and then made up all these rules around it and now people will unironically tell you "men cant wear skirts its unnatural" girl none of this is natural. we are born naked and made up the rest as we went along. hope this helps.

I think cis women should be allowed to get top surgery even if its not for a medical reason like breast reduction or cancer. I think they should be able to get it even if they're completely cisgender. Some women are just sick of dealing with them and would be much much happier never needing to wear a bra again
