I've done it gamers, I have beat Guild Wars 2 and I never have to do anything else ever again.
The eastern zodiac is comprised of 11 real life animals and 1 mythical creature, the dragon.
In the MMO Guild Wars 2, for the Lunar New Year festival they use the same zodiac. However, dragons are an actual real creature that everyone knows about. But Guild Wars 2's lunar new year also features a zodiac of 11 real life animals and 1 mythical creature... the horse.
Because in GW2, horses don't exist.
Update: It's the Year of the Horse and horses still don't exist. But rubber horse masks do. (Also pictured, Gourdon who is a perfectly normal living cactus)
never play guild wars 2 you will make 4 characters and make them friends and become obsessed with them and give them lore.
wintersday is going great so far. you wouldnāt believe all the fun i have in the JP. AAAAALL THE FUN, I SAY!
I am sad to report that Jim Ward passed away. To us in the gw2 community he was our beloved Tybalt Leftpaw, our mentor for those that picked the Order of Whispers story line.
He died of complications of Alzheimer's.

Part 4 of my series of building all Guild Wars 2 mounts in blocks. Sorry it's taking so long to upload, I haven't forgotten about it. In fact, most of the series is almost done except for the last mount, but I just procrastinate a lot on taking photos. Thanks if you've reblogged my past mount builds recently though, it gave me a kick in the ass to take these photos!
Already reblogged this but yes.
1. Balthazar. He was repaying kindness to a man who helped him get his beloved sword back with no idea it was a vengeful god.
2. Ryland. Charr culture includes not raising your children, but Rytlock literally says that he wanted so badly to be there for his cubs (which there are more than one but we only see Ryland) and actually checked up on them when he wasn't expected to
Mourning his son that he had to kill. Wishing he was able to be there for him so he wouldn't have gone down this path.
Idk I love Rytlock and that struggle of not being able to raise his kids is why he's so close with Thorne (who is Braham/ryland's age) because once he kind of realizes that Thorne is a kid he's like 'well fuck'
I love Charr
Canach and Trahearne are two of the best potential foil characters in gw2 and not only did the game rob us of that by killing one off right as the other officially joined the team, but the fandom also largely makes this seemingly impossible to explore by mischaracterizing Trahearne so much that none of his original grey morality can be found in the tags.
Canach is a guy who had no initial purpose but went through such trauma that it warped him into cruel intentions he ultimately regretted, and now heās a man who has an edge to his personality but he clearly intrinsically wants to do good and is so fast to step up and help whenever heās anywhere remotely near trouble! He has healed up at every stage possible, even when stripped and tortured he joins the fight rather than stepping back for healing to let you handle things yourself. He cares so deeply and he genuinely wants to help! Sure heāll joke and verbally jab at you but he pulls through whenever he can.
Trahearne is a guy who from day one was told what his job is, but he isnāt truly compelled by a sense of right or wrong do much as just completing the checklist his Hunt gave him. He lived alone for years in a hostile environment and the only people he could connect (that we saw) with were his sister Caithe, a couple sylvari girlfriends who were isolated from other sylvari, and a bounty hunter from a reputably ruthless race. He isnāt a morally good man heās morally grey and neutrally motivated at best, and has saved the world essentially through āitāll help what my checklist has on itā more than wanting to save millions of lives. Hell, when the pact forms he doesnāt even want to run it alone and has periods of radio silence between world events that have to concern him.
Their stations in life and their interactions with the world are so perfectly inverse and itās such an interesting avenue to explore if you look into it and I want to see more canonical Trahearne and Canach interacting and how they would absolutely clash hard on morals while still able to find middle ground on duty and field expertise.
The first time we meet Canach, he's legitimately trying to help save people from the consortium! Sure he goes about it in the wrong way and fucks up horribly but he's a traumatized you man cut off from his home! Hell, Kiel even agrees with him and destroys the contracts for him after he's arrested. Everything he does is very right intentions, wrong actions
Trahearne on the other hand is like "oh well I guess killing Zhaitan would help with cleansing Orr and would help Caithe huh." Does he even help with Scarlet? His only focus is Mordremoth next, because that's his job now. He leads the dragon slaying organization, time to go slay the next dragon.
#Like I think he does want to save people but in his mind #its an impossible task and hes all alone #and hes kinda half given up? til we come along #meanwhile Canachs snorted a line and like take down the governemnt? dont mind if I do! #like both are Kind at their core and so caring but #there Trahearne whos become drained after all these years #and Canach whos becoem Angry after all these years
I wanted to add @commanders-sole-braincellāās tags as well as agreeing that they would have been very interesting foils
Just to add on, here are some old things (including season 1) Canach said so we donāt forget the origin of this grudge:
Season 1 was the villain origin story, but season 2 and heart of thornsās development for Canach is pretty much all him coming around on his lifelong disgust at the respect Firstborn are given for no reason, which culminates in him seeing what Mordremoth does to Trahearne and deciding he is worthy of that respect. Itās a very sweet dynamic but they could have made a lot more out of it.
HELL YEA a very good point with the source of a lot of his Ire! And despite having lived in the ruins of Orr isolated for most of his life, the Grove still built an imagined reputation of Trahearne; the first of the firstborns. Some talk about how awkward or strange he is around the Grove when he visits, but thereās also those who fawn over him on almost fanatic levels like trying to hype themselves up just to say hello to him.
Canach living around this sort of firstborn worship and seeing firstborns run pretty much every little thing in the grove? Of course theyāre stuck up and seeking praise constantly. But then he meets Trahearne, for a brief time but a very very important one nonetheless. And this isnāt the man the other sylvari made him out to be.
And the point at which Trahearne gains that respect from Canach is the same point at which he requests that you kill him, and then thatās it. But gods if there couldāve been more! If HoT hadnāt had so many issues and been such a rush job, and they hadnāt intended to wrap up the sylvari plot so roughly. I want the ups and downs of Canach and Trahearne interacting and how their personalities and principles clash despite their undoubtably immense respect for each other in being here.
Plus I think a key difference in how they interact with things is Canach is empathetic, his passion for things to be Right fuels him to the point of righteous fury that can sometimes go awry. Trahearne meanwhile works off of compassion that heās had to work at under all of his focus and intent, every step is intentional and worked at. And it is such a potentially amazing dynamic to observe I just want to hear some conversations the two couldāve had!
Honestly i was so right with all of this and I should make them kiss about it
I love Gorrik and his VO.
no i will not be buying the world boss teleportation device, yes you will be hearing about my wizard fanfiction
One thing I do appreciate about Guild Wars 2 is the random times where it becomes Suddenly Horny for no good reason, but instead of being weird and fanservice-y it's just random, hilarious background noise. It's always been like this. Two couples hook up after you kill Zhaitan and then tell you to fuck off so they can flirt at the victory party. One of them previously had a competition over exploding chickens. These two lesbians you just picked up will not stop flirting at inappropriate times. Rytlock and Canach have something going on in Path of Fire that has no heterosexual explanation. All the charr in Grothmar are horny. SOMETHING happened between Jory and Jhavi back in college. Snargle Goldclaw. Mai Trin's totally-not-a-vibrator. Anise fucked a mursaat? Bear sex bed patterns?? Ellen Kiel just dragged Logan Thackeray up to a room???
It's very stupid but I think what makes it great to me is that it feels less like porn and more like realistic adults living their normal, horny lives in a world where there is no stigma on that, and occasionally making questionable decisions (Logan Thackeray??? really???), and that just makes it fucking hilarious to me.
