Would you believe me if I said the new minions movie is too smart for its own good. There are constant jokes about the 1920s film industry it is obscene. Every single insane crazy thing is played completely straight. Every bit of it. It’s actually incredible.

So for example the minions are all following this guy Dort. And Dort claims to be an extraterrestrial alien robot who was sent to judge humanity to see if they should be invaded. But then he falls in love with a suffragette and part of the montage of their love story is him and the minions marching for women’s rights with her. At the end of the movie it’s revealed that he’s not just a dude larping but a literal actual alien robot with a ufo. And then he and the suffragette get married and she gives birth to a walkie talkie I am being completely truthful here

Like the whole movie it is completely played like this guy is not a real robot and just a regular guy. And you keep waiting for the reveal that he’s a normal man. But no. He is an actual alien. And the worst part about this is it makes sense in the metatextual themes of the story. Because at the end you learn this entire movie was directed by the minions. Like the final shot of the film the minions yell cut and you zoom out to the set. So it makes perfect sense that the minions would think this guy was a real robot bc that’s how they operate. This whole insane movie is written as if the minions themselves wrote it AND THAT IS THE POINT. IT IS BY DESIGN DO YOU SEE WHY THIS MOVIE IS KILLING ME

ozzy having a fatal flaw that ends in his demise every time he plays is sadly very compelling, almost shakespearean. Ozzy Lusth the Tragic Hero of survivor. doomed by the narrative. telling the same story over and over again. and he can never change the ending. the tribe has spoken

truly a shame and a massive waste of potential if the showrunners are serious about keeping kingdon platonic. like how do you not recognize that you have the setup for one of if not the best slowburn couples of all time. Not even really a will they won't they but an actual slowburn where all the pieces slowly fall into place before they finally get together, because it already feels inevitable!

pball and tdeardz (and even some of the others) are constantly saying things like "they're kindred spirits" and "the connection they have is really special" and even if they WEREN'T saying these things what they've actually put to screen already is so singular. They've worked two shifts together with a TEN MONTH gap in between and that hasn't stopped them from becoming close with one another, arguably closer than any other romantic or platonic pairing on the show. We have canon garsantos and even when they aren't fighting their chemistry doesn't hold a flame to kingdon. I have consumed an ungodly amount of television and I've never experienced anything remotely close to what kingdon has.

It kind of boggles my mind because I watch them on screen together and then the way the writers and actors talk about them just does not match with what we've been shown at all. I can maybe understand it a bit more for season one, but what were they doing in season two?? "You never let me down" and "I really don't want you to leave too" and Becca's "Mel says lots of nice things about you" (knew him for all of 13 hours and hasn't seen him in ten fucking months, mind you!) and "I see why you like him". The breakroom parallel. The entire fireworks scene. I could go on.

I just genuinely don't understand how you could write and/or act those scenes and then try to tell the audience with a straight face that they're strictly platonic, or worse, they're like siblings. It would be the biggest fumble of all time if they don't do anything with it, like they'd be creating a tv romance that would go down in history as one of the best ever written if they just leaned into what is already there between them! Not to mention how important is it that one of them is an autistic woman! Literally everyone else can see, my 70 year old grandparents see it, people I know who have never touched fandom or shipping in their lives see it, yet somehow everyone on this show is completely blind to the absolute fucking goldmine they have in their hands. Literally what the fuck are we doing. I feel like I'm being gaslit.

* He woke up from nap and found me still with him. I did not wait on his chest as I should; he says I am heavy like “elephant” and he “couldn’t breathe.” I laid my arm over him instead, kept him feeling safe. He said my “cuddle” was warm.

* Before class he heard young ones singing.

* He has plants in house from sprouts on ship. Plant grew “bud.”

* Engineers got water temperature better. He took off shoes and stood in water, sighing. He didn’t care about pants getting damp. Cried until shirt was also damp. Humans very endlessly wet.

* He missed “Doritos.”

* Adrian helped food scientists make taumoeba dried paste. Made it crunchy after heating. We fused it into triangle form. Told him it was Tauritos. That made him laugh-cry. Laugh-cry is rare and precious.

* He remembered Eridians have no gender rules.

* We made him celebration outfit. Used metals he calls pretty. He can see frequencies named “colorful” and “shiny.” These make humans happiest.

* I gave him hug when he wasn’t expecting it. Easier to hug close now with exosuit. Hug when Grace sitting down so he does not fall over.

* Told him to think long time, stay with me as long as he can.
