Here is a bit of the Ji Can/Li Jie post-canon fic. I am writing this here and there when I need to feel calm. (Sangcheng and Fengqing make me feel insane (lovingly).)

Li Jie's vision was hazy. He understood the sound of a fire burning before he understood the sight before him. His body felt heavy, his throat dry. A few feet away from where he was lying, a young man was crouched with his back to Li Jie. In front of him was a blazing brazier. A threadbare gray cloak was sliding off his shoulders. As Li Jie collected his thoughts, he watched the man sweep aside his long black hair and wipe sweat from the back of his elegant neck with a cloth. He set the handkerchief aside and turned his head. Firelight outlined his profile, the line of his jaw and point of his lashes holding an intense familiarity. Li Jie took a sharp breath, startling the young man, who looked up at him. Li Jie couldn’t breathe. His dry throat burning, he began to cough.

Ji Can rushed over to the bed. He quickly brought a cup of water for Li Jie and coaxed him to calmly take a few sips. After a brief struggle, his coughing settled and he was left swallowing loudly and clutching his chest, wide eyes staring at Ji Can. It wasn’t hard to guess what he was thinking. Even though Ji Can didn’t look exactly like Ji Ling in this life, there was at least a family-like resemblance.

“Are you alright?” he calmly asked Li Jie. The muscle in Li Jie’s jaw tightened and he nodded once. “Good. You’ve been asleep for two days.” Ji Can helped him to sit up in the bed, arranging the pillows behind his back and pulling the blanket higher over him. The loose bed clothes he’d been dressed in weren’t very warm, only enough to maintain his modesty. He was otherwise covered in bandages.

Ji Can looked at him patiently, expecting him to ask the obvious question. But Li Jie said nothing, just watching him like he couldn’t quite believe his eyes. He’d actually forgotten how taciturn and shy this man could be. It brought a tender yet sour feeling to Ji Can’s chest.

He reached out to place the back of his hand against Li Jie’s forehead. Li Jie flinched and he quickly pulled his hand away.

“Good, your fever seems to have broken. Here, drink a bit more.” He pushed the cup of water back into Li Jie’s hands. Li Jie took another sip, his eyes not moving from Ji Can’s face. “Do you have a name?” Ji Can asked.

“Li Jie.” Ji Can knew his reaction was being scrutinized, but he just smiled gently, glad to find the man still had his wits.

“Is it Li as in 'muddle-headed' and Jie as in 'tongue-tied'?” he teased.

“Who are you?” Li Jie asked, his voice hoarse but demanding.

“I’m not your brother,” Ji Can assured him, stunning Li Jie again. “And I’m not Ji Ling.”

I swear I'm going to get back on the fairy tale sangcheng soon. I just need to reboot my brain because last time I worked on that it was right before I had a big life change. :)

Anyway, here is something from the fengqing roommates thing I am currently working on.

The alert sound wasn’t the one he’d set for Xie Lian, nor Mu He or Mu Tian. He assumed it was his new agent, reluctantly retrieving it from the coffee table to have a look.

Every hair on his body stood on end as he stared at the screen.

Feng Xin hadn’t changed his number. Mu Qing had, and he had also erased this man from his contacts after keeping him blocked for two years. But, he remembered the phone number. He could have called Feng Xin any time he’d wanted. Feng Xin was not meant to have the same privilege. Clearly, someone had given him Mu Qing’s number.

Mu Qing carefully directed his limbs to walk around the cardboard boxes he’d been stacking around the living room. He picked up an embroidered couch cushion and tossed it onto the rug before climbing down to lie on the floor. He held the phone up over himself, looked up at the tiny water stain he’d never painted over, and then at the screen.

Mu Qing unlocked his phone, opening the photo expressionlessly. He received two more as he was examining the first. Unblinking, he carefully scoured each, checking that everything on the list he’d emailed to Feng Xin was there. He would have to rearrange everything because Feng Xin had no sense of decor or logic, but it was all there. It had only been a week and a half. He must have worked hard.

Mu Qing frowned and blocked his number.

A moment later, Mu He sent a photo of himself holding up a salad, posed in the style of a mugshot. Mu Qing laughed out loud.

Mood suddenly lifted, he unblocked Feng Xin, adding his number to his contacts.

“Good dog,” he texted before blocking Feng Xin again.

His hand reached for it automatically. His fingers clutched the slippery, glossy cover. There, posed against an abyssal swathe of black velvet like a pornographic marionette, was Feng Xin’s high school crush, Mu Qing.

“The Unchained Bride” Fairy Tale AU, 27,000+ words written

- The Yunmeng trio vie for inheritance of their mother’s kingdom, each sent in the direction of a released bird to find a spouse - JC is sent in the direction of a forbidden forest, not expected to return - NHS is actually living in the forest, and he is also a sorcerer - NHS helps JC complete his challenges while JC tries to figure out NHS’ background

Untitled Modern Christmas AU, ~9,000 words written

- JC hates Christmas because his family is insane so this year he rents a cabin by himself to get away from them - NHS, his friend since childhood, shows up uninvited - unfortunately, JC has had a crush on NHS for years and has been avoiding him for the last year after NHS drunkenly called him “hot”

“Bad Decisions” Modern College AU, 20,000+ words written

- JC and NHS are friends attending the same college, NHS openly gay and promiscuous, JC having only had a few disastrous encounters with girls - Knowing NHS worked as an escort his freshmen year (or so he claimed the day they met), JC drunkenly demands that NHS teach him how to be good at sex - what do you think happens this shit writes itself [but i am embarrassed writing it so I only work on it when I'm really sleep deprived]

“It’s Mutual” Modern College AU, not written but I did make a tumblr and the outline is ~3,000 words already

- WWX convinces JC to get a tumblr while the Yunmeng trio are all studying at different colleges - JC is surprised to find how much he likes it and makes a nice mutual, an artist with a pet parrot - JC takes a class where NHS is the grad student TA, who he immediately gets in a fight with - WWX informs JC that the mutual also has a nsfw side blog... - JC asks the mutual for advice and continues to fight with his TA until?

“Not Lost” Modern AU, not written but I did write a 6,000 word outline

- JC is dumped by his situationship in his senior year of college and goes off to vet school while licking his wounds - He hasn’t seen childhood friend NHS in years, but kept a piece of pottery made by him and can’t forget almost hooking up with him in high school (his bi awakening) - He volunteers at the animal shelter and runs into NHS when someone brings in an injured vulture and NHS shows up to take it back to his avian rehab - NHS has a pet cockatoo and is still on good terms with his ex girlfriend, but………. how is a guy gonna forget making out with JC one time at a high school party………

“Your Soul is a Picture” Modern AU, 12,000+ words written

- JC is a vet, NHS is an astrologer - NHS throws a fit in the vet’s office over how his cat was shaved to look stupid and later regrets his behavior when he has to call JC for help understanding the cat’s medicine - NHS gives JC a free chart reading, JC finds out he’s an artist and hires him to paint a portrait of Yanli for her birthday - NHS finds out JC is his friend WWX’s brother and JC needs a date to the birthday party in order to deal with his family - NHS volunteers to fake date JC, which of course does not create any issues and goes well - This started as one of the early drafts of Tear It Like a Page but with me going way too hard on the astrology

Untitled Modern Roommates AU, ~1,000 words written

- JC has been dragged out to a restaurant to pretend he’s NHS’ date so they can get free food on Valentine’s Day (normal) - JC is getting kicked out of his apartment with WWX so NHS invites him to live in his nice house - JC is a fitness YouTuber and NHS is an artist with a big online following - idk other than that I wrote a scene where JC cries about something

“Like and Subscribe!” Fengqing Modern Roommates AU, 16,000+ words written

- Mu Qing is a successful YouTuber whose two younger siblings have both moved out for college - His friend tells him to move back to Socal because Pittsburgh is too depressing - Feng Xin is a successful fitness personality who was Mu Qing’s roommate in college before they had a huge falling out - Mu Qing is tricked by Xie Lian into moving into Feng Xin’s shitty new house to make DIY videos together - they keep fucking but they are definitely NOT DATING AND MU QING HATES HIM SHUT UP - the first thing I wrote was a blowjob scene -_- - it's classy though, the chapter titles come from poems :)

“Centerfold” Fengqing Modern AU, ~4,000 words written

- Feng Xin is on his way home from work and stops to buy an umbrella. At the store he sees a fashion magazine with Mu Qing on the cover. There is a hot spread of him in the centerfold which brings back some memories of his high school crush the last time they’d seen each other. - Mu Qing interrupts his horny daydreaming by showing up in the store and telling him to put the magazine down if he isn’t going to buy it - After a sharp verbal exchange, Mu Qing drags him out of the store and gives him a ride home. - Turns out Mu Qing just moved into the same fancy high rise as Feng Xin - this fic is short they just get together immediately because J Geils Band made a horny song

“The Return of Zhuo Yichen” Zhao Yuanzhou/Zhuo Yichen Post Canon, 6,000+ words written

- Zhao Yuanzhou comes back after 100 years - everybody else is alive too - also Yichen is mentally unwell - I think I was really tired when I started this so I don't have any idea what my idea for the story was...

“Stored in the Heart” Ji Can/Li Jie Post Canon, 3,000 word outline~

- Ji Can and everybody else in the star stone were reincarnated and Ji Can now owns a nice little inn - Li Jie has been wandering and still looks great after twenty years when he shows up in the middle of a blizzard covered in blood - Ji Can helps him recover and they deal with the pathos of being two lonely people who remember all the bad things that happened - Serious abuse of idioms and wanton wordplay, the title is based on 记在心里 jì zài xīn lǐ because as a part of the plot Ji Can is now 记灿 and he calls Li Jie 里结 so uh, it has both their names in it. - I wrote "There is no Ji Can't only Ji Can" at the top of my doc so
