This is a sideblog for @grimsgrimoire. I'm Grim and my pronouns are he/him and she/her. I'm a queer adult.

This blog was initially intended for just Idunna, because I established a relationship with her first, Bragi came later. However, when making this blog, Bragi insisted on sharing this with her.

So that's why its called soil-and-stanzas!

This is for any offerings for them as well as me posting my own experiences with them.

Iðunn's "Apples"

Iðunn known for her golden apples. The Goddess of the fruits of eternal youth for Asgard. This has been a topic of discussion for both historians and pagans, since the domesticated apple we think of today, was not available yet in Iron Age Scandinavia, and would not be produced or farmed until the Middle ages. This has lead to some fun discussions on what fruit it could be. Some have suggested other fruits, ranging from Cloud berry, to Lingonberry, crabapple and more.

Do they have to be Apples?

I personally venerate Iðunn as a youth Goddess and a, 'fruit' goddess. Instead of worrying about her title, or what she may have been guarding, I have enjoyed working with her as a figure associated with many types of fruit, and fruiting trees. She's a goddess of tree nuts, and fruit trees, of ground fruit too.

I associate her with that feeling of biting into an orange slice, or eating pomegranate for the first time. I like to see her as a fruiting goddess, associated with that bite in a really good strawberry. The goddess of the acorn, that hits the sidewalk as the seasons change, and the squirrels must pack up for winter. Youth, in the way you look at the world from your inner childs eye. A playful spirit of curiousity and joy. I associate her with the memory of finding wild crabapples in my friends yard. The time I found wild strawberries in my own! The taste of deserts made with berries. My grandma's Strawberry shortcake.

I hope that someone else will find this and maybe have a similar feeling, to the Goddess of Golden Apples.

Feeling dirty and grimy for extended periods of time is extremely draining on the mental well-being of humans. Psychological studies prove it is detrimental to our self-esteem and contentment. And no wonder; we are animals--homo sapiens, a kind of ape--that instinctively places high importance on personal grooming. Like monkeys and cats and birds in a zoo, one of the best ways to make us feel sad ... is to make us feel gross to ourselves.

So here's an easy saying from my therapist/zookeeper:

"If you feel like you hate the world, eat something.

If you feel like the world hates you, get some sleep.

If you feel like you hate yourself, take a shower.

You will probably feel much better."

When my mom or her sisters did crochet growing up, their dickhead older brothers thought it was hilarious to snip the yarn somewhere in the middle of the bundle. I suspect mom would've found a trick like this really handy.

I have used this method and I can confirm it is Great. Makes a very, very strong join that won't break, and then you don't have to weave in the ends when you're done!!
