What is SolarTale ?

SolarTale is an alternate universe of the game Undertale, inspired by the same game as well as the AU Undertale community. The universe was created on November 5, 2022 and developed by myself.

Chapter 8: The scientist's laboratory

Chara arrives in Hotland wanting to finish her journey in the capital of the underground, New Home, but first she has to overcome the Hotland volcano with its extreme heat. After a fairly long wander through the orange terrain of Hotland, a gigantic white building with ‘LAB’ written in orange on the wall stood in her way, and a door was placed in front of her.

She approached the door to inspect the building and the door opened automatically, there was no light inside, leaving a gloomy aura that made Chara shiver.

Chara: Whoa, what is this place? Nobody told me about it, and it doesn't look very convenient.

Chara plucked up her courage and walked straight inside, unable to see anything because of the darkness, then held out her hand and let out a little of her reddish magic to light up the place a little so that she could see ahead. A sound of teleportation appeared behind her.

Sans: Boo!

Chara is startled and turns round to see the little skeleton, Sans, whom she'd seen recently in the fight against Gaster.

Chara: Oh Sans, it's you!

The lights of the laboratory came on, revealing what was inside the laboratory, and the little skeleton made 7 hands appear, each with a hole in its palm, and all these hands were working in the laboratory in complete autonomy, while Sans remained in front of the young human.

Sans: Yep, that's me, so what are you doing here? As you can see, I've been working a lot, so I've been keeping busy. If you see Papyrus again, could you tell him I'm doing well? I'd be grateful.

Sans was still very friendly with the human, but remained distant so as not to form any kind of bond of friendship between them, given Chara's unique potential; nobody else knows what this is all about, but he's the only one who does.

Chara: Well, I wanted to go to New Home and don't worry about Papyrus, he's fine, I'll pass on the message the next time I see him!

Sans turned his back to Chara to look at the plans for one of his projects, which included a number of blueprints for a kind of machine resembling a skull.

Sans: Tell me, Chara, do you like this place? Do you think you can harm the people living underground?

Chara listened carefully to what Sans was saying and answered his questions honestly, which he seemed to take very seriously.

Chara: Of course I love this place, and I'd never hurt any of its inhabitants. I'd help the people in the underground as best I could, because it's my new family now.

Sans closed his eyes and smiled, he seemed satisfied with the human's answer.

Sans: Well, that's the answer I needed. Then I have confidence in you and your abilities.

He turned to face Chara again and placed one of his hands on her shoulder, smiling warmly.

Sans: I'm sure you'll make a fine warrior in the Royal Guard, I'm convinced of that.

Chara: Thank you Sans, I won't let you down!

He lets go of Chara's shoulder to pick up one of his plans and concentrate on it, then says, keeping his eyes riveted on the plan.

Sans: By the way, the rest of the way is through that door

He points to the door at the other end of the laboratory.

Chara: I'm going there now, see you later Sans!

Chara crosses the laboratory, looking left and right, then goes through the door shown by Sans to leave the laboratory.

She finds herself outside again, but this time on the other side of where she was before entering the laboratory. She continues into Hotland for another long moment.

Chapter 7: Joining the Royal Guard

Our protagonists have finally had some time to rest, Papyrus and Chara are still training to strengthen Chara's magic, which has already evolved considerably, Sans has returned to his laboratory to work and Gaster has gone missing.

Chara has managed to master her magic enough to join the Royal Guard, but before she can do so, she has to prove herself to the Captain. So she sets off for Waterfall to meet her, seeing many things along the way including a hidden village, that of the Temmie, the eccentric little cats who run the village.

Chara has now arrived in the area of the echo flower fields, which have the particularity of repeating what they hear. Chara admires these magnificent luminous blue flowers until a noise emerges behind her, and she hastily turns around to notice that Flowey is behind her.

Flowey : Howdy Chara! It's been a while, are you all right?

Chara, who hadn't seen her friend since the incident at the ruins, didn't know what to say but spoke up anyway, happy to see him again.

Chara : Flowey?! I've finally found you, where have you been all this time?

Flowey looked surprised that anyone was worried about him, after all, he's never had any friends since he lives in isolation. He answers Chara looking embarrassed.

Flowey : Well… I had to do something urgent.

Chara gave Flowey a friendly smile, then replied, not blaming him at all.

Chara : I hope it went well! I'm going to meet Undyne, the captain of the royal guard, so I can be taken.

Flowey : Well then, I wish you luck.

Chara waved goodbye and headed further into Waterfall, while Flowey seemed preoccupied and disappeared into the ground. Chara continued on her way until she spotted a woman in armour, she recognised the person from the photos Papyrus had shown her, it was Undyne, the captain of the royal guard.

Chara approaches her timidly because of the massive armour the woman is wearing and the stress of the exam.

Chara : Um… Hello, I'd like to take the test to join the Royal Guard.

Undyne turns to look at the young human and lets out a slight laugh, knowing that a little girl wanted to join her army.

Undyne : Do you want to join the Royal Guard? Very well then, face me and I'll see if you're up to it!

Chara puts herself on guard to face the fish warrior, who conjures up a luminous blue spear in her hand and points it at Chara, intimidating her.

Undyne : Hit me once and you're done for.

Chara makes a reddish knife appear in her hand, determined to pass this test in order to join the royal guard.

Numerous red knives appear beside her and rush towards Undyne to cut her, but she parries them all with the spear in her hand and rushes towards Chara, punching her in the stomach.

Chara takes the blow violently and quickly recovers to move away from her, holding her stomach in pain as she wonders how to land a blow on such a monster. Of course, Undyne doesn't use all her strength to give Chara a chance.

Chara : How can I even land a blow?

Red knives continue to appear, hurtling towards Undyne who easily intercepts them all again with the spear in her hand, spinning it around.

This same spear is thrown at Chara with phenomenal speed, but before it can be thrown, a reddish shield appears on Chara's arm and she hits the spear, which deflects and ends up stuck on the wall of the cave.

Chara immediately made a strong impression on Undyne after this well-executed move. Numerous spears appear next to Undyne and rush towards Chara, cutting her from side to side, but her wounds gradually regenerate thanks to her unshakeable determination.

Undyne : Well then, is that all you know how to do? You're not going to win by taking my attacks!

Undyne lunged at Chara again, but before she could hit her in the face, she feinted and got behind her to land a powerful blow to her ribs - the human was in no position to parry.

On the contrary, she concentrated her magic in the palm of her hand to aim skywards, then caught Undyne's blow and the magic concentrated in her hand propelled itself into the air at the same time, while she was propelled to the side by the force of the blow.

The beam that Chara had fired into the air deflects and falls back on Undyne, who takes it head-on. The attack didn't do her much damage, but it's still the end of the fight, because the aim was to hit her.

Chara got back up and regenerated thanks to her determination; she had passed the test to join the royal guard. Undyne then sneers, seeing the young girl's potential.

Undyne : Well done! You've passed the test just as I'd hoped, by the way, what's your name?

Chara holds her head, still stunned by the power of the blow she'd just taken in the ribs.

Chara : My.. My name is Chara!

Undyne : Very well, Chara, then you're now a member of the Royal Guard. Rest well and head for New Home, where the main post of the Royal Guard is.

Chara : Thank you! OK, I'll be off then, see you soon Undyne!

Chara sets off in the direction of Hotland, crossing the bridge linking Waterfall and Hotland.

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 6: The Origin of Negativity

For several weeks, Chara has been training with Papyrus to improve her powers. Every day she trains hard so that she can strike a blow at the great skeleton, while creatures of negativity appear more and more frequently, but Chara and Papyrus always manage to counter their attacks brilliantly.

The origin of these creatures is still unknown, as are their abilities, but they are becoming more powerful by the day, which worries our two protagonists until the famous day arrives.

A large skeleton with blackish matter like that which makes up the creatures was with them, tentacles were on its back, still blackish, while black liquid flowed from its eyes. This skeleton and the creatures of negativity were inevitably linked, and the fact that it was the source of the problem is more than likely. They attack the village of Snowdin again, while Chara and Papyrus neutralise the creatures one by one.

Chara suffers numerous injuries due to the number of creatures present and regenerates as best she can. The skeleton filled with negativity seems very powerful and destroys all those who oppose him. Papyrus is also badly hurt, then a teleportation noise is heard and a small skeleton with a broad smile on its face appears, bringing with it a huge gaster blaster that shoots, destroying many creatures.

Chara, on seeing him, remembers him immediately, he's the one who attacked her at the ruins but he seems to be saving them?

Sans : Well then, Gaster, are you attacking Snowdin?

The large skeleton controlling the creatures seems to be called Gaster and he answers with a voice that is unrecognisable, jerky and terrifying

Gaster : 𝕊𝕒𝕟𝕤, 𝕤𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦'𝕣𝕖 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖? 𝕎𝕖'𝕝𝕝 𝕓𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕗𝕗 𝕢𝕦𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕪…

One of the tentacles on Gaster's back rushes towards Sans but he is intercepted and pierced by a bone just before it reaches him. Sans snapped his fingers and a dozen blasters appeared, all firing at Gaster in a huge explosion. Chara could only stand back and watch as the sheer level of power chilled her blood.

Papyrus : Sans! You're here!

Papyrus was in a bad way but he was happy that his brother was there to save them, he knew that all the inhabitants were now safe.

Gaster had protected himself with his tentacles, which formed a sphere, but he had still taken a lot of damage, and the tentacles suddenly shot out, sending a shockwave through Solar that propelled him.

A gaster blaster appears behind him and catches him before firing at Gaster, who takes it head-on but his negativity increases, regenerating his wounds.

Sans : Come on Gaster, do you want to have a bad time?

Sans says this cheerfully, then his right eye glows, leaving a trail of several colours across his right eye, then blue bones pierce Gaster and Blasters appear all around him, firing at full power continuously for several long seconds.

Sharp, pointed bones appear en masse to pierce Gaster at the same time, who doesn't even have time to understand what's happening to him. After this phenomenal attack, Gaster is half disintegrated as his body gradually reforms with his negativity, but very slowly, and he uses his last strength to flee.

Sans approaches his brother, Papyrus and Chara.

Sans : Hey, are you all right, Paps? You're not hurt? What about you, kid?

Papyrus : Sans! You're here, I'm so happy to see you!

Even though the skeleton seemed friendly, Chara doesn't answer, remaining wary after what happened in the ruins.

Sans : That's good then, it's all over for a long time, Gaster shouldn't show up again for a long time

The village was thriving again, but for how long? Fate will tell soon enough, but first let's take advantage of this well-deserved rest and have a bite to eat at Grillby's!

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 5: Training with Papyrus

Chara wakes up very early for once, eager to learn more about her magic, the magic that enabled her to defend herself against the creatures of the previous day. She leaves Papyrus's house to walk through the still-sleeping village of Snowdin towards the snow-covered forest.

After a short while walking through the snow, she reached a quiet spot in the heart of the forest and began her training. At first, no magic appeared, but as time went by, it became more and more noticeable as the sun rose, and for the moment there was only a tiny glimmer.

Suddenly, there was a tremor in the forest and Chara stopped her training immediately to brace herself, the same tremor as yesterday. Creatures appear in a puddle, then form a blackish slime approaching Chara.

She defends herself by conjuring up knives that descend on the creatures to destroy them, but there are too many of them. The creatures surround her, depriving her of a means of escape. It was then that an idea crossed Chara's mind, as she was almost out of options.

Chara : What if I concentrated my magic and made it come out all at once around me?

Indeed, Chara had an idea and put it into practice, concentrating her magic and then letting it out all at once, leaving a reddish blast that destroyed the creatures around her. She then escapes along the path she came to, heading back to the village to lose the creatures that were following her but were not fast enough to even follow her.

Chara runs through the forest before finally arriving in the village and entering Papyrus's house to find that he was awake and on his feet but still a little asleep.

Papyrus : Chara? Have you gone somewhere? Chara : Eh Paps. Well, I went for a little walk, hehe.

Papyrus doesn't doubt Chara's word and believes her, even if her words were a little suspicious.

Papyrus : We'll go and train like you wanted in the forest not far from the village. Chara : Dakodak, I'm with you!

The two set off for the snowy forest, where Chara had fought just before. When they got there, the creatures were no longer there, which relieved Chara. Papyrus moved away from her and summoned a bone, which he took in his hand.

Papyrus : Are you ready?

Chara then put herself on guard too, conjuring up a knife in her hand.

Chara : Yes!

Chara makes other reddish knives appear in the air and charge at Papyrus, but he destroys them all with the bone in his hand, and Chara leaps at him to strike with the knife in her hand. Papyrus parries them all with his bone and gives a violent blow to Chara's knife to disarm her and make her lose her balance, while he makes many bones appear from the ground.

Chara jumps high into the air to dodge them and sends out a beam of red energy from the palm of her hand. Papyrus causes a number of bones to emerge from the ground to intercept the beam and stop it, the bones then destroy each other and Papyrus causes a large bone to emerge from the ground in front of Chara, which hits her hard and propels her against a tree.

Papyrus stops the fight, seeing Chara injured, and offers her his hand to help her up.

Papyrus: You're already strong! Keep up your efforts and you'll be in the Royal Guard in no time! Chara takes Papyrus's hand and stands up, her wounds gradually healing thanks to his magic.

Chara : Great, I'll work hard to reach your level!

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 4: Monsters of Negativity

The next morning, after a night when Chara slept on Papyrus's sofa in the living room, she woke up to the smell of toast, which quickly reminded her that she hadn't eaten anything for a while. Papyrus was already up, preparing breakfast which he brought into the living room.

Papyrus : Good morning Chara! Did you sleep well? I've prepared this in case you get hungry.

Chara stretched and yawned, then looked longingly at the food as her stomach rumbled slightly.

Chara : I'm fine, I'm too hungry!

Papyrus : Great, then help yourself, it's all for you!

As soon as Chara heard these words, she began to eat impatiently, dying of hunger a few seconds ago. When the meal was over, she seemed satisfied.

Chara : Thank you, I'm starving.

Papyrus : Glad you liked it more then!

As Papyrus and Chara chatted quietly, an earthquake suddenly sounded, followed by cries, the village seemed in danger and Papyrus prepared himself by putting on his royal guard equipment. His jovial air was replaced by a serious one.

Papyrus : Stay here, it won't take long and I'll explain everything when I get back.

Papyrus left the house, leaving Chara alone under the deafening sounds of the outside world.

Chara : There's a lot of noise. Should I come out or not?

After a long hesitation, she finally decided to go out in secret too. Outside, dark, slime-like creatures were attacking the village and its inhabitants, with a small group including Papyrus fighting them.

Chara was contemplating the spectacle, hiding behind a house, when suddenly one of the creatures discreetly attacked her from behind, piercing her hip. Time seemed to stand still as the young girl's heart beat rapidly, she was defenceless against one of the creatures the villagers were so afraid of.

In a survival reflex, she held out the palm of her hand towards the creature and then, to her great surprise, a beam of reddish energy formed, disintegrating the creature in one fell swoop. She was terrified by what she had just done, looking down at her hands full of her own blood, wondering what she could have done to activate this.

Chara : How could I have done such a thing? This has never happened to me before!What's happening to me?

Chara tried to keep her cool in the face of all this frustration.

Screams suddenly rang out and Chara didn't bother to think, she charged forward to destroy more of these creatures in a heroic act as the wound in her hip slowly but surely closed in a reddish glow.

Knives appeared next to her in the air, heading towards the creatures of negativity to slice and destroy them. After a long battle destroying the blackish creatures filled with negativity with her new abilities, Chara was exhausted having awakened her magic for the first time. Papyrus approached her to support her.

Papyrus : Hey, are you all right? Why didn't you stay safe?

Chara : I couldn't... I couldn't stay... knowing that you might be in danger!

Papyrus : Chara... well at least you're not hurt but let me help you.

He picks Chara up, puts her on his back and takes her to his house to rest inside on the sofa. Chara catches her breath as her wounds regenerate thanks to her magic. She looks Papyrus in the eye, determined.

Chara : Now explain!

Papyrus sighs briefly before answering.

Papyrus : I'm a member of the Royal Guard, the Underground police force responsible for protecting the Underground, and what you saw there were creatures of unknown origin, so we're still looking into where they came from.

Chara looks away while she thinks about everything that's happened and, thinking back on her powers, turns her gaze back to Papyrus.

Chara : Papyrus, train me to use my magic, I want to join the Royal Guard!

Papyrus seemed a little hesitant about this, but he agreed.

Papyrus : Very well then, I'll teach you what I know about magic and how to use it so that you can join our camp!

Given the battle they had been through, which had lasted almost a day, the two people ended up falling asleep very quickly.

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 3 : Meeting in the snow

Following the short time she spent unconscious, Chara eventually woke up, however, she later noticed that she was moving, she wondered how because her legs were not moving, she rubbed her eyes to open them and sees that it was carried by someone.

? : Hey, you're awake! Aren't you too cold ?

She didn't recognize this voice and strangely she wasn't cold, she noticed that she had winter clothes on.

? : I took care to dress you so you wouldn’t get sick. By the way, it’s Papyrus !

Indeed she doesn't know him but he seemed very nice and like someone you could trust.

Chara : Mhh thank you, Papyrus.

The person was a tall skeleton looking happy and innocent.

Papyrus : Oh you spoke, I was afraid you weren't feeling well !

Papyrus seemed really concerned about the young human's state of health, he continued to walk under the snow with Chara on his back.

Chara : Yes I'm fine thanks to you, where are we ?

Papyrus : Well we are in Snowdin Forest, we will soon arrive at the village.

Chara ends up remembering what happened the day before, the little skeleton that attacked them and the flower that protected her

Chara : By the way, do you know where Flowey is ?

Papyrus : Flowey ? I don't know sorry.

Papyrus did not know the living golden flower, he then looked sad at not being able to help the human.

Chara : Hey, it doesn't matter, I'll investigate !

Papyrus : You will have my support in your research !

Chara and Papyrus eventually arrive at the warm village of Snowdin. Papyrus gave Chara a complete tour of the village, happy to help her. They stop in front of Papyrus' house.

Papyrus : And there you have it, this is my house! I live here with my brother and you are welcome !

Chara : Well thank you Papyrus and do you have a brother ?

Papyrus : Yes, but he's always out and about, too busy with work. Chara: I see, you two should spend more time together, I'm sure you need it.

She gives Papyrus a little smile to reassure him because he seemed sad that his brother was not very interested in him.

Chara : Papyrus pull yourself together and talk to him! You are a brother after all, he will listen to you. Papyrus : You're probably right, we'll have a little discussion !

SolarTale Arc - Chapitre 2 : The scientist

After a good night's sleep, Chara wakes up after Flowey lightly shakes her with a vine coming out of her pot. The place already visited from top to bottom the day before, they have nothing more to do here and they decide to leave the house through the basement where Flowey is aware of the passage to the rest of the underground. Arriving at the stairs and after going down the steps to walk in the long corridor, Chara begins to be worried by the length of the path which seemed to lead to nothing.

Chara : Um Flowey ? Do you really know where we're going ?

Flowey, still transported by Chara in his pot, assured :

Flowey : Of course, this place is made of magic so everything is beyond logic, you'll see that soon enough.

Chara trusts Flowey's words and continues down the path a little faster. Once the long path is finished, a huge door stands in the way of the two characters but as they open it, bones fall on them which are received by vines, those of Flowey. A shadow was behind them and spoke in a threatening tone.

? : So what do we have here ? Flowey, you could have warned me about the new arrival.

It was a rather deep voice and the appearance of this person was strange to Chara, it was a skeleton, quite small, who wore a wide smile. Flowey retorts angrily.

Flowey : Without! What's wrong with you? Is it for your dubious experiments again?

Sans: Maybe so. It's rare for a human to fall here, I have to test it.

Flowey knows very well the difference in level between him and Sans, he does not want the human to be in danger and therefore takes an initiative. He whispers to Chara.

Flowey : Listen to me carefully, the three of you run without stopping through the door.

Flowey brings out several thick vines that block Sans' view and then others that open the door in front of Chara.

Flowey: 1.. 2.. 3.. Run !

Chara rushes at full speed without turning around leaving Flowey behind her, which depresses her a little, her vision is limited given the speed at which she runs. After a few minutes of frantic running, she ends up tripping and falling in the snow letting her finally see her surroundings, a forest full of many trees as well as snow as far as the eye can see, then she falls unconscious due to the cold and the exhaustion.

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 1: The Human in the Underground

A young human falls from Mount Ebott after a quarrel with the people of her village, so she takes quite a fall to land in the bed of golden flowers, unconscious. After a little while, she wakes up and looks around. She didn't know anything about this place, which made her panic.

Chara : Did I get lost ? Ho nooo.. how am I going to get back to the village..

she asked herself, disoriented and without a way to get home. She then gets up with difficulty, holding her head following the pain of her fall, to walk and explore the area. She crosses a dark room with the only light, a beam of light which is in the middle of the room, this beam illuminated other golden flowers. After crossing the room to the center, a flower that looked animated comes out of the golden flowers.

Flowey : Howdy ! I'm Flowey, Flowey the flower! Are you lost ? I'll help you get home !

This flower is called Flowey and seems very energetic and joyful. Chara, who meets a talking flower for the first time, obviously doesn't believe it, thinking that it was just her brain playing tricks on her. .

Chara : Well I must have lost my mind after the fall.. Flowey quickly gets offended by Chara's reaction and retorts

Flowey: Hey! No, I'm real and you'll have to get used to it, do you want to go home yes or no? Chara then becomes a little more serious, wanting to have someone's help to get out of here, even if it was that of a flower.

Chara : Um yes of course! I'm Chara.

She said without really knowing how this flower could help her but having a little company couldn't hurt.

Flowey : Alright then, let's go!

The little flower disappears underground and reappears coming out of the ground not far away, inside a pot

Flowey : Transport me and I'll guide you through the ruins.

Chara approaches the pot containing the flower and retrieves it, waiting for Flowey's instructions. They set off, after a little while crossing the different rooms of the ruins and solving the puzzles with the help of Flowey and the practical mind of Chara, Chara and Flowey find themselves in front of a warm-looking house. They go inside to notice that it is empty. They then visit this big house.

Flowey : Hey Chara! We're going to stay here for the night, you must be tired and I would take the opportunity to teach you more about these places Chara : Okay let's do this, I'm listening

Feeling that the explanations were going to be long, Chara prefers to sit on the armchair in the living room, placing the flower pot containing Flowey on a stool in front of her.

Flowey : Okay, so first I'll tell you what this place is. Here we are in the Underground, a fairly large cavity below the mountain from which you fell, for the moment we have not encountered many monsters but there are very powerful inhabitants here

Flowey then explains in detail the legend of the war between humans and monsters as well as what the royal guard and the king and queen of the Underground are to Chara who listens attentively, she ends up falling asleep under the excessive explanations by Flowey.

Flowey : I haven't seen her magic yet, I hope she's good enough to survive here

SolarTale Character #1 : Solar!Chara (Hidden Soul)

Chara is the main character in SolarTale's story, developing her abilities throughout her adventure and encounters. This character will have several posts to explain its different forms following its evolution.

Backstory

Chara was a girl living in a village near a large mountain called Mount Ebott. This mountain had the reputation of being the refuge of the devil given that according to many legends, the monsters had been locked up there after a bloody war against humans.
