Valentine's Flowers For All!
NO SPOILER WARNING AND CUT BC IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED OR WATCHED CHAP 5 THEN UR A SQUARE!!!
The cut is so I'm not making a massive wall of text on people's homepage, which I also hate. Here talking abt the Six Human Souls (referred to by their Traits) and the seven flowers (referred to by their colors)!!!!!!!!!
And I don't care that it's not remotely Valentine's; it's the only remotely flower-themed holiday I've got.
First up is the room. Not only does Asgore having a flower shop with a back room for these heckin goobers not make much sense, the Chapter 5 Dark World is M A S S I V E compared to every other Dark World, even though the front and back rooms are only a bit bigger than the chapter 1 closet. There's a huge gap in distance between the main tower location and all the fields at the start, and SolarTale Asgore wouldn't have the shop portion of the location, so the SolarTale Field Of Pink And Gold location's going to be significantly bigger than the storage closet.
So what is this Asgore room in ST? It's all the people he's lost.
Gerson is a turtle, he's very long-lived. And Gaster was a skeleton, he wasn't strictly "alive" to begin with, and he was so saturated by his own DT experiments that him dying of natural causes wouldn't be considered plausible before Frisk's But It Refused and The Demon defeated Sans and Undyne the Undying. But that's about it, he's watched a lot of good friends pass away in his long life, including his own children.
Along with his wedding flowers, the ST version holds a shrine to his children and a corkboard full of tons of abandoned papers and faded red strings, all covered in writing regarding an incident report and death certificate for "W.D.G", someone only known for being the mysterious figure behind the vast majority of Monster education textbooks for all grade levels. He ends up reviewing these notes during the Dark World adventure, hoping that since there are clearly way more notes than what he wrote centuries ago, maybe this strange magic has revealed something new about his old friend and Royal Scientist's fall, he just has to unscramble them.
These are not the same flowers from Dad-gore and Gote Mama's wedding bouquet, but their extremely distant descendants. They got married on the Surface and the War was fought with swords and magic; Asgore's an incredible gardener, but such expensive and delicate flowers can only last so long. Rather than individual flowers, each is a whole bouquet in its own right. Each in their own, long cases. Aquariums turned to farming plots. Flowery's is the biggest, as he's the entire garden from Asgore's former throne room on Mt. Ebott. The Castle was moved but there were some significant problems due to it being connected to the Mountain itself, especially that portion. So he personally moved the golden flowers from the old throne room to the wedding bouquet and lost loved ones section, representing everything that happened to his children even though they're back. This room carries all the memories, no matter how they hurt.
As a result, he's cared for these flowers their entire lives. He's practically a god overseeing their bloodlines. Reading them all the stories he wanted to share with his kids, and adding personalized items to one of them for every child he killed to break the Barrier. Watered them with his Hopes and washed his Dreams over every single one. Remembering which ones are a bit different than the rest of their plots and treating them like they have their own personalities.
Thus, the Flowers' goal is the same, repay the Flower King for everything. Every story, every dream he placed upon them, every hope he lost so they could bloom centuries after their expiration dates.
This has the additional effect of each of them being far more powerful than in canon. They get the Spamton Neo/EX treatment of all the will, hopes, dreams, and effort of a Lightner elevating them way beyond a normal Darkner and granting them more complex wishes and personalities than their Fountains were made to grant. Along with our Heroes getting multiple classes and class synergies, upgrades to those classes, neat Items and Item synergies, more Item slots (not just padding for the Humans/Demi-Monsters), and easier (less morally reprehensible) access to Pure Crystal Items like the Twisted Sword, and having way more allies that even allow the true defeat of Queen and escape from Tenna, the SolarTale Flowers come with a sharp difficulty increase. I also want all of them to appear more complex, both their flower forms and Darkners. I get the monochrome thing but they still look very bland and out of place.
And most importantly...
Kawkaw isn't a Darkner. I love them so much so they get the Ralsei treatment of becoming real nyons that get to play and interact in Light and Dark alike because they're simply that precious. Cassie's dry streak will never recover.
But if, for some reason, you feel the need to stick around after ^^^the part everyone cares about^^^, here are some Flowers and Human Souls I guess :v
Diaper-dependent (potty training was boring) and impossible to change. Wiggly bby wants to keep playing. There is no way in any timeline that Aqua's out of diapers.
GOOBER SPOTTED!
Aqua is gonna be very different from Patience.
Patience is the youngest of the Human Souls (physically, since she was the Human to fall after Chara, literally she's like half a decade younger than Azzie). She died being mauled by a large pack of Guard Dogs the moment she stepped escaped the Ruins. Waited for just the right time, when Toriel turned her back for only a second.
Patience is a sweet and calm kid. A silly one, at times, but is generally low-maintenance. ESPECIALLY after such a grizzly death, she stays out of trouble and often clings to gote mama. As it was the early days of the second War of Humans and Monsters, all the emotions and feelings of being chained were second only to the moment right after the Barrier was created. There were still plenty of Monsters who could recognise a Human on-sight, who'd seen the Surface and knew people who'd Fallen Down because they'd never see it again. She did her best to wait them out and find opportunities to sneak past, she was way too small and inexperienced to fight them if she wanted to, but she couldn't escape their noses. There wasn't much left to parade around the Kingdom. But for as vital a role those ancient Dire Wolves and hounds had in collecting the first Soul, there don't seem to be many dogs around, not even in Snowdin.
Not sure what kind of Demi-Monster/Human she would be, but she gets to be a mini jester. A Pomni-esque outfit with different sgades of cyan instead of straight blue/red, and the bulbs at the hips and shoulders are big sleeves going down to the wrists. The hat is too big for her head, so it keeps covering her eyes, she doesn't mind.
Aqua is fully the inverse of Patience, the flower came to life with a personality based solely on Patience's Jester/fool appearance, nothing about the actual child. Like the creator of the fountain isn't very familiar with Patience, and their will latched onto someone else with a very gremlin-like personality.
Her dress is a bit more detailed with a brighter blue poncho on top, with some bright red lines leading up to the collar. The bottom of her dress and ends of her sleeves have some curved cuts so it looks like giant flower petals. Her ribbon is quite a bit bigger, too.
Her real flower has red lines trailing out from the center. Her petals are really big compared to the rest of the flower, so she has rly oversized everything. And she has plenty of thorns. She's the first flower Asgore associated with one of the Fallen Humans, she's been around him the longest and heard the most stories, being the only other flower connected with a specific Human (or Monster, we'll get to Flowery eventually ;) ).
She (and Seth) also produce a lot of nectar used in advanced magic and potions, so Chara pops down to the Dark World room with little pipettes to gather from them very often, giving her a handful of surface-level Chara traits (along with Kris bits) leading to all the knives and hair (made of flower petals) curled into little horns/bat wings.
A bunch of little knives (thorns and Chara+Kris traits) poke out of her sleeves pretty often, through the openings or the bottom of the fabric.
She's one of Asgore's favs bc she's the one who didn't even get to Snowdin Town, he considers her (Patience) to have been the most innocent, she couldn't have hurt anyone if she tried. And she reminds him of a mix of his kiddos when Little, so she gets as much platime as he can give while tearing through the Dark Worlds' version of his notes and Dad-goring the other Flowers. All these mixes of Patience and Kris are why Aqua's Aqua instead of Cyan, green plus cyan (the lowercase-aqua I use for Empathy/Camila's colored text)!
Aqua still represents/is a living jab at young Kris. "Look who you used to be, look how happy and playful you were, how you would bounce and spin, how you'd play. Look what you became. Are you even you when Susie or Noelle aren't around? Where did that child go? He would be ashamed"
They're the only other Flower in padding, good for long study and writing and planning sessions! And they're the other one who gets a bunch of magical materials taken by Chara; clearly Humans should be smol and belong in diapers!
Seth is much more similar to Perseverance and way less of a jab at their corresponding Human than most of the other Flowers.
Perseverance was the third Human to fall (but gets treated as after Integrity bc that's the order Frisk encountered them... behind the Waterfall and in Gerson's shop...) She doesn't fully remember how she died, just a dense shadow and a burning flash surrounded by many Monsters. Her body was found drifting face-down in a Waterfall river, narrowly resuscitated by some Monsters she questioned, and brought to King Asgore by the Royal Guard, where she couldn't do much with or without her items. There wasn't the same grand celebration of victory and freedom for Perseverance as the other Humans, nobody stepped forward to claim her kill. And she didn't hurt anyone, she wanted to study Monsters and talked to them instead of fighting. Parading her felt in bad-taste to everyone in Snowdin and Waterfall.
She (and Patience but we're done talking abt her) doesn't remember much, being in isolation in a tube with brief moments of clarity for Asgore to read their bedtime story. She can't remember her name and many of her origins, so she got to make her own name!
Perseverance goes by Vyn! She's joined the scientists of the Monster Kingdom, and I'm leaning toward a mouse or bnnuy-like Demi-Monster, but I want her to have a long fluffy tail (this was before chap 5 released), still wanting to learn and study as much as she can! But this time she gets to play with magic! She'll dress a lot like Seth, but with a diamond-pattern light and bluish purple vest over a purple snappy. Though I'm not completely settled on Vyn's design beyond "something very her". She doesn't mind being padded and regressed after a little bit, she likes being all flustered and embarrassed; it makes her little heart flutter.
Seth is quite similar to her, they get along, she tells them a lot about Humans and Monsters! Since Vyn making her own name and identity far beyond who she used to be is relevent to her, practically being a completely different person than the girl who fell Underground, Seth manifests as the only Flower with a real name (and the whole identity gender thingamabob going on with them)!
Their flower is big with lots of long, thin petals, lighter ones at the center and bluish ones between them. They become their dress and sweats. I'm not sure what extra details I want Seth to have, just that I don't want them to only be a pallet shift of Vyn. I also want them to be mixed with lavender and some other purple flowers, and all of them to have some alternate bits of normal flowers mixed with the important magical ones, so they can have lavender tassels and tufts in their clothes.
Due to being the knowledgeable one of the group and providing magic materials for Chara, Seth's the one who creates the Flowers' special items, they learned from Chara herself! They and Aqua are the only ones who get diaper item benefits (besides Humans and Demi-Monsters)
Green is a fairly bare-bones exaggeration of Kindness.
Kindness is a quiet kid. He keeps to himself and loves to cook. He fell right between Perseverance and Integrity. He refused to take a life, often made and shared healing items with the Monsters, and made it all the way to Hotland. The only enemies they made were Muffet's ancestors bc they kept outselling their pastries, but they offered their winnings as an olive branch. He knows his name and lost family, but I don't and they're gone now. He's pretty inspired by the Those That Fell Before You comic.
He didn't die in Hotland, but he got badly burned there. Some Monsters healed him up, contributing to his decision to willingly offer his Soul to King Asgore. (Based on a tc-96 comic) Kindness is one of the lives Asgore directly took, and he weighs HEAVY on Asgore's mind. He will be a straight-up plant Demi-Monster/Dryyad.
Green, because of the Human they're connected to and getting more attention from Asgore, remains the most functional and objectively best of the Flowers. Their muteness is result of Kindness being a bit shy/anxious. Kindness is a little bit wide, so Green is as well.
Their flower looks like a fuzzy green sphere made of many small bulbs of broccoli or moss. They hunch because their flower stems are very asymmetric and the weight of their bulb bends them down.
Green's a hunchback! Their hat is a puff of broccoli and the ends of their sleeves and collar and opening of their coat are covered in little dark green bulbs. They have big leaves for hair and always carry a dark green frying pan. Their skin is lime and their clothes all feel and smell like cut grass. Their back is carrying a big buch of moss balls and broccoli-bits that glow gold from within. Green grabs their signs, cooking supplies, changing supplies, and items from this hump. It tends to look like eyes or mouths with thorns for teeth, and they could cast spells from it in combat, but they keep refusing to fight. It's mostly used to sprout uneven stems to help in the kitchen. Green is in charge of changing Aqua, Orange, and Seth, but they're willing to change and babysit Little Party Members! But only if those Party Members are willing to be changed/taken care of by not-their Caretaker/Ralsei, and they charge a hefty fee of 1 Dark Dollar after totally unrelated events.
I want all the Flowers to have one extra color, like Aqua with red, but Green's the only one who I've decided what that color is (Courage - Justice + Bravery).
Orange is a walking humiliation ritual for Bravery.
Bravery is fairly introverted and quiet, but FIGHTS. They were part of a gym-like establishment, basically trying to win a tournament (very inspired by Wildfire, might have to steal a lot of Riley's design and/or name). Lots of pent-up aggression and home problems.
They killed a lot of Monsters in the Ruins and Snowdin, including the descendants of the pack that killed Patience. They took and gave tons of hits during their trip Underground, practically freezing to death in the process. They survived by increasing their LV and whatever healing items they could scavenge. They're the reason Royal Guards didn't carry healing items on them by the time Clover and Frisk fell.
Asgore himself had time to come down from the Castle and killed Bravery personally, parading them across the Kingdom on the tips of his trident. They fell before Perseverance/Vyn, but clung to their name because they chose it before falling.
Orange is the result of someone making a Fountain who had VERY low opinion of Bravery. Someone who considered them a coward and weak; the Ruins bashed it into each Human's head that violence wasn't the answer, gave them every chance to see that there was a much better option and there was only one Monster who genuinely couldn't be spared, and he was all the way at the end of the line. Orange walked right into Flowey's sadistic plans.
So they're represented by a crybaby. A little girl who runs off to her big siblings for every perceived slight, no spine and thin skin. A brat of a rat who still gets changed by Green and only helps with anything when paired with such a soft wimp like Kindness. And all that negativity gets rebounded onto them because not only did they kill many Monsters, but this Flower is undeniably connected to them. She's everything Bravery hates and doesn't want to be. "STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT WHINY LITTLE FREAK!"
Orange is also the one who (while throwing another tantrum, naturally) points out Bravery only faced Asgore because he popped down to Snowdin; Kindness, Frisk, and Clover didn't kill anyone and they got all the way to the Castle, one of them even overcame Asgore and two didn't need to try.
Her flower is pretty small, doesn't grow very tall, and doesn't even get any attention from Chara besides helping her Dad water everyone. She had few, broad, curved-inward petals and very long stomata like rat tails.
Orange might have pink bits just to reference the Secret Boss, like Souls on her gloves and bandana/suspenders.
A lot of the attention Asgore would give her is given to Green instead, since Green reps the Human who hurt him the most, but he's been around entitled nobility and similar nonsense long enough to spot a crybully. He refuses to reward that behavior, so he gives Green more attention, contributing to their better everything.
Yellow remains dumber Clover.
Cloves is the only other one who has a set type of Monster
Anyway, Undertale Yellow! The only Monster they ever harmed was a younger Undyne, having shot her eye out when she refused to allow him to escape. He's gotten better with firearms since then, being part of the Royal Guard and a cross between a golden knight and a cowboy. Not much new to be said abt Clover.
Yellow... makes Clover uncomfortable... specifically after Susie Gaslit, Gatekept, Girlbossed too close to the seven suns and when he refuses to Justice Blue. One thing certainly carried over from Human to Flower. Reminds him of his journey through the Underground and willingness to lay his life down for Monsters. Willingness to die for people he just met. Clover doesn't like to think about Yellow. Doesn't help that Cloves and Integrity do not get along.
See here
Here, and here
Yellow's flower is tall with some lime green highlights, pretty bland and medium petals with lots of small buds over a brown, wood-like stem.
Yellow has some brown and orange bits for his clothing, but that's the extent of it. His own flowers are tassels on his vest, tops of his boots, and hair. Not that they flop around all of a sudden, they're stiff, his tassels and hair are just stiff like the wind's blowing through them as he rides a horse. Asgore doesn't rly know what to do with Yellow, he never knew Clover personally, just his sacrifice and the people he meant a lot to.
First of all, this post
Integrity killed about as much as Bravery, but it was spread out across the Underground instead of absolutely decimating the Ruins and Snowdin.
She's also fairly reserved and calm, fighting in self-defense. Integrity prefers dance as a form of storytelling over entertainment, she follows tragedies and very emotional performances. Clover has much more personal problems with her than Bravery, since she fell just before him and was one of the fallen kids he was searching for. Kanako, Dalv, and Chiujin connect him to the people she hurt much closer than to Bravery's victims. She's more chill with the padding than Bravery. Integrity just voices her problems with everything and sorts through them with her Caretaker. Some Abyss Echoes (see the dragons post) follow her and Bravery around, draining their energy. Integrity would like to have the full power of her Soul for dances, but understands why the Monsters force her to be in their vicinity, leech her Soul. Unlike Bravery, she's never had to be restrained by her dragons.
Blue pisses her off for no good reason. He comes off as the stereotype gay man who's entire personality is being gay, then his partner is Yellow of all people, and does his "I only do comedies/romance" thing. "...Okay there's nothing wrong with Blue, he's just cringe..."
And she doesn't get to say anything abt it because of social politeness lmao. And then he comes in clutch for the ending and she feels bad.
Blue's flower is also pretty tall with tons of small bulbs along the stem with loads of long, thin petals. I've considered adding white or yellow to him, but I don't want him to look like Rouxles or Martlet. Maybe a bit of green for best-Flower-solidarity.
Right picture is canon.
Flowery is (visually) a completely different character.
Again, same general tone and actions, but Asgore never went to college or got mega close to Rudy, he's the giant garden from the throne room brought from Chara's Surface village.
ST Flowery is based on Chara and Asriel.
Flowery is trying to fill the void they left as children, give Asgore his perfect world, but frequently being avoided. Asgore repeatedly brushes Flowery aside to spend more time with the other Flowers, getting a little more frustrated with him as time goes on and he very obviously tries to slot into the old Chara and Asriel's place. Asgore is not a fan. "You are not my children, Flowery."
The Ralsei ragebait will still be there, but there's more focus on Asriel getting some catharsis from Dad-gore very vocally rejecting Flowe(r)y as a parallel to his son.
He should appear as a grown-up Asriel/Chara, far from being the Hyperdeath form but around that age range. His attire's more royal and visibly made of leaves, while you could squint and miss it when looking at the rest of the flowers. More princely and shiny gold with blurbs of green and white. Bright white gote with hair of golden flower petals and some grass that got caught in the roots when the garden was being moved. The cloak/sheet of paper with the Shelter Code is the black robe Asriel wears during his fight. All complete with a vaguely draconic, but mostly humanoid, shadow always flowing around/with him. They aren't seperate entities, just one Darkner embodying the same two people.
Flowery tries his usual nonsense with Asriel and Chara... and gets his ass thrashed in seconds. Both are essentially Boss Monsters with Human Souls, one uses a bunch of plant magic, both are pyromancers, and both handle swords extremely well. They don't care abt his fake stats and there's nothing they can't power straight through bc Chara's a tryhard and Asriel is flat-out bloodbending this personification of their Flowey/Demon and Plan traumas.
I'm sure this can't possibly lead to some flower-themed hydra shenanigans as Azzie takes full advantage of being a functional god again. A rainbow hydrangea-themed fight, if you will.
