/Sensing Layna would not be easily persuaded to rest, Juli moved to hook her arm under Layna’s head and inched a bit closer with a heart-warming smile.

/Layna chuckled and raised an eyebrow as Juli moved closer to her. Getting comfortable, she rested her hands under her cheek and smiled gently, speaking with a teasing tone.
/Juli bit her lip to keep herself from talking about the subject any further, nodding, eyes downcast showing her dejection. Knowing Layna, she would not admit to her unrequited feelings toward the other Loyal, but she was more than good at observing. Hoping not to further upset Layna, she laid on her side by her in the cot with a nervous smile
Maybe you should take that rest now. I’ll stay till you’re sound asleep.
/She wanted to mention the kiss, how she felt. But she didn't want to gush, especially now that she had seen the other two together. So with a sigh, she smiles appreciatively at her friend for not taking the subject farther. As she laid besides her, Layna turned her body to the window to face Juli with a nod, letting out a sigh. It'll be the second time someone had told her that. But she didn't know if she could rest now, not with these new images in her mind.
"Come on, Lay. One more time. I'll beat you, I swear." Lukas grinned the toothy smile Layna had gotten used to. With a bright smile, he raised his fists in a defensive stance and beckoned his head at his best friend.
"You're going to get hurt again, Lukas." Layna laughed but nodded. "You're such a dork." She sighed and chuckled, swinging her fist at him.
Blocking her attack, Lukas rolled his eyes and stuck out his tongue. With each attack she struck down, Lukas blocked and sidestepped from her, glancing down at her torso. Just a few more minutes and...
Layna let out a shriek as the older boy tackled her to the ground. Looking up at him, she scrunched her nose. Taking a handful of sand, she stuck it under the collar of his shirt and laughed, rolling out from under him. "Okay. You got me there. You win this round, Lukas." She grinned and brushed the sand away from her body. Sitting cross-legged on the sand, Layna started tracing patterns into the sand, the ocean breeze making her ponytail sway in the breeze. She looked up at her friend and smiled softly as he sat beides her.
"You kick my ass, Lay." Lukas laughed, looking down at his hands. "So. It's your sixteenth birthday. And you didn't even mention it all day." He looked at the girl with a pointed look and a raised eyebrow. "Why do you do that every year?" He asked, sliding his hand in his pocket as he fumbled with the gift.
Layna froze at the mention of her birthday and sighed. She had forgotten herself, it wasn't like she got excited over it. She was just made in a test tube, what was so special about her birth? "Because you know it's not important to me." She whispered and shut her eyes. She hated her birthday, but Lukas had always loved it. Typical.
Pulling out the box out of his pocket, Lukas placed it in her lap and looked at her nervously, longingly. It wasn't a secret to everyone that he liked her-well. The only one who didn't know was Layna. Typical her. "Still. It's a good day for me, my only friend was born." He smiled warmly, ruffling her hair playfully.
Staring down at the box, Layna contemplated on opening it. It'd be easier to just toss it to the ocean. But Lukas' gifts had always meant something to her. She wasn't sure why, but she wasn't about to ponder her feelings for Lukas. Instead, she opened the box and widened her eyes. It was a silver bracelet, the type that would cuff around her wrist. Flipping the bracelet over, Layna smiled at the crude attempt at engraving Lukas had made. His name had been carved into it, with probably one of the daggers in the training room. He had probably stolen it from some girl in Paradise City, or from the stores. But Layna loved it. And for some reason, this gift was held dear to her. "Lukas..." She breathed out, placing the bracelet on her wrist. Looking up at her friend, she smiled softly then wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his neck as she whispered softly. "Lukas, I love this. So much."
Lukas watched Layna carefully as she opened the box. He smiled as her face lit up at the gift, he knew she would like it. It was simple, but it meant so much. At the embrace, he felt himself flush but immediately hugged her back, resting his chin on her shoulder. "It's no problem. But. It's also kind of a thank you. For being my friend for this long. I'm glad you love it, engraving it was a bitch." He laughed then pulled back, a genuine smile on his face. "Happy birthday, Layna."
"Who else would put up with your dorky self?" Layna laughed and smiled, looking down at her gift then back at him. "Thank you. For everything, Lukas." She felt herself blush and cursed at herself silently. She was acting girly. But with Lukas, she couldn't worry about that. They were all they had left after all. Bumping his knee with her hand, she grinned. "Come on, birthday dinner in Havana."
Lukas had agreed. Of course he would. And things stayed that way. Until him and Thomas grew closer, until he started spending more time with Sierra and Stella. Until he had completely drifted off from Layna. When he spoke to her now, he was different, changed. And Layna couldn't stand it.
/without thinking, Lukas leaned down, his lips brushing her cheek, just close the corner of her lips, murmuring comfort words.

/A few seconds passed when he straightened up, the surprised look at his own actions didn’t show, instead it was placed with his trademark smirk, although it was weaker than usual.

/With that, he turned on his heel and walked out the door, closing it behind him with a click.
/Bringing up her hand to her cheek, she blushed immediately and widened her eyes. She shivered at the sound of his comforting voice and shut her eyes, nodding slowly. She glanced over at his smirk and rolled her eyes at his tone, however she looked less irritated. She watched him walk away before finally turning on her side, the blush still evident as she shut her eyes in a futile attempt to sleep.
It was an easy enough question. But somehow he couldn’t bring himself to ask. He could have asked a lot of other things, but none of them compared to wanting to know what brought them to this state. Cursing himself silently, he thought he was being utterly stupid.
Just go rest, I’ll see you when you get back to work.
/Furrowing her eyebrows in a confused look, she looked down in hopes of hiding her disappointment at the statement. She nodded, eyeing him curiously, her eyes searching for any sign or break of what he really wanted to as. Clearing her throat, she placed back her stoic mask and brought her blanket up to her chin.
/Julienne felt bad, having to have lied to her friend from their previous conversation that she almost spoke up about it; but when she saw Layna’s jaw set, and her eyes following the couple that passed by the window she first noticed, Juli knew it wasn’t the time to bring it up yet. Her hand continued to stroke her hair, until she let it rest on her shoulder tentatively.
/Pursing her lips together, Layna bit her tongue before she started raising her voice defensively. She wouldn't yell at her, she refused to. But the question set her on edge, especially when she was being forced to think about it. The answer was obvious enough, but she would deny it till she died.
No, Juli. He's just a boy I'm forced to associate with at times.
