But the more he thought of it, of the fact that this whole experience was meant to get his mind off of her, the less it worked. The less he was distracted. Because then, at the end of the day, he just couldn’t get her out of his head. It was different from simply remembering a face—he did that well and often, truth be told—but hers, it was like she haunted him, the ghost of her features ever present at the back of his mind. Her stupid face, and how it wasn’t at all stupid, but quite possibly the most beautiful face he’s seen—and he’d seen a lot; her pillowy voice and timid demeanor, demure but enticing all the same. There were all these things about her that he knew, found out just by looking, and then even more that he didn’t have enough time to figure out. The first of which was her name. Goddamn it, her name. The more Harry mulled over it, the more he began to realize that all his efforts were futile, and that frustrated him. He couldn’t even explain it to himself. She was just a face he saw, and he’d seen plenty of faces before, so why can’t he get her out of his head? Why, God, why?

He should not have done that, he REALLY should not have done that. He’s never been more embarrassed, confused, and pissed off at himself than right now. But y/n had looked so beautiful through his drunken haze, her touch had been like lightning to his numb limbs. Her voice had been like smooth honey over the loud music and she smelled like heaven and whiskey. So it’s really no surprise that he tried to kiss his best friend in the middle of the party last night. No surprise that he clung tight to her when she tried to get away, and wouldn’t stop even when she’d brought him home and put him to bed. She rejected his advances so coldly, denying his many declarations of love to buckle his seatbelt, or pull off his shoes, or tuck him in. And now Harry’s wishing he’d had just one more Jack and Coke so that he had no memory of the ass he made of himself. The pounding in his head was no match to what was going on in his heart. Because y/n was asleep down the hall and if he got out of bed that meant he’d eventually have to face her and that did not sound like something Harry wanted to do.
