In terms of outspoken celebrity figures, not many can top Kanye West. the Chicago born rapper/producer has developed a impressive portfolio of public outbursts over the years. As his infamy has grown throughout his career so has the scrutiny over his now famous monologues and the public, which have created a division of opinion on whether the creator of "Yeezus" is a visionary or as some have put it "a jackass". So I've put together a list, of the most prime examples of Yeezy living up to the polarizing image he has created for himself. 10. "My Life is Dope, and I Do Dope S***" My life is dope, and I do dope sh*t. During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon in 2014, Dave Chappelle told a story about his first time meeting Kanye West. The story could not be easier to believe, as Chappelle goes on to describe a young Yeezy full of confidence in his ability to succeed, depsite the fact he didn't even have a record out at the time. In fact, the meeting between the two was for Kanye's first TV appearance on Chappelle's show. When taking a phone call while watching sketches for the Dave Chappelle Show that no one had seen yet famously explained to the caller that "My Life is Dope, and I Do Dope S***". If there was ever an indication of the type of media presence Kanye was going to be in his early career, this anecdote would be it. Not quite on par with the controversial comments he has made in more recent years, but a great insight into the mindset of the accomplished rapper, even before he had reached the heights he now has. 9. . Kanye Not a Morning Person Kanye does not appreciate good mornings A comical clip of Kanye’s response to a member of the Paparazzi greeting him in the morning. Yeezy shows little interest in the Pap’s conversation starter of “Good Morning Kanye” simply replying “Shut The F*** up”. What made the clip all the more comical, it came not long after his claims on rant on Jimmy Kimmel about the way Paparazzi treat him and his family saying “It’s disrespectful. The harmless approach from the Pap is met with swift hostility from Yeezy, it is so blunt and so typically Kanye even the guy filming surely couldn’t help but laugh. Its another of those moments that creates that bi-polar affect amongst the public. Some will think it’s funny its Kanye again just saying what he wants and not pandering to those that he finds intolerable. Others meanwhile will think it is ignorant and shows unlikeable character that Kanye is since he can’t even be civil to man simply saying “Good morning” to him. Either way its Kanye and he’s going to keep being Kanye 8. "It’s Disrespectful!" Kanye West Interview Kanye has never had the greatest relationship with the Paparazzi, least of all now that he is married and has a child. During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Kanye while in the middle of one of his extended monologue’s gets into the Paparazzi and his thoughts about their approach to him and his family. Kanye states “The way the paparazzi treats me and my family it’s disrespectful’. He goes on to talk about how “we bring something of joy to the world” referring to his music continuing to say he “should be respected as such when he walks down the street”. For all the wind and bluster that follows Kanye and his ‘speeches’ it’s hard to disagree with the sentiment behind his point here. However, it was in the same interview that he declared he is “a creative genius and there’s no other way to word it” which helps to fuel dislike for the Chicago native’s ‘haters’. 7. Yeezus Tease-us Kanye West - New Slaves (ft. Frank Ocean) @ UChicago (5/18/2013) When Kanye released Yeezus in 2013, he done it in typical Kanye fashion making sure it was memorable. It wasn’t like the release to Graduation that was hyped with a feud between him and 50 Cent over who would sell the most records when both were released. Kanye with Yeezus, teased us with some original promotional ideas that typical of Kanye were unique to him. After sending out a series of vague tweets of addresses not many knew what Kanye had planned. Wa she making an appearance? What did the addresses and time mean? What it led to was him projecting the video to his single New Slave on the side of buildings at the said addresses. Rather than just put the video out for the public to see, Kanye created intrigue by making us guess, and wonder for ourselves what he could be doing. This all culminated in the release of his album Yeezus where he created a completely different sound to what any of us had heard from before. Kanye did Kanye by doing what nobody was even thinking of doing at the time. 6. To say that Yeezy didn’t hold back, in his attack of Kimmel would be an understatement. Kanye usually not the most active over social media went on a tweet tirade hurling insults at the television show host. Kanye famously tells Kimmel to put himself in Kanye’s shoes but goes onto explain that (all these tweets were written entirely in caps by the way) “that means you would have gotten too much good p**** in your life”. Yeezus also bizarrely brings Ben Affleck into the rant tweeting “Should I do a spoof about your face or you f****** ben Affleck” before immediately rescinding any malice aimed at Affleck and reverting it entirely on to Kimmel “#NO disrespect to ben Affleck. #ALL disrespect to Jimmy Kimmel”. The only thing surprising about Kanye’s rant here is that it was done on twitter, it wouldn’t have surprised many if Kanye had burst into his local news room during the 6 o’clock news and started announcing all of this to a live audience. 5. "Oh Hell Nooo" Kanye West crashing stage at EMA's after losing to Justice The writing was really on the wall for us, we should grown wise to Kanye’s penchant for award show hysterics back in 2006. During the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards Kanye was beaten to the award for best video by J.U.S.T.I.C.E, a decision that Kanye didn’t quite agree with. Yeezy took the stage during J.U.S.T.I.C.E’S acceptance speech with a look of genuine confusion on his face as he began to declare “Oh Hell Nawww”. Needless to say Kanye truly believed that his video for Touch The Sky was far superior to the video that won the award proceeding to explain to the winner’s “I had pam Anderson, I was jumpin over canyons and s***”. In an interview on the after show Kanye did go on to blame his actions on a little too much “sippy sippy”, arguably the only and last time Kanye has ever made excuses for his outlandish actions. 4. Zane Lowe Interview Kanye West. Zane Lowe. Full Interview The now infamous hour long interview Kanye West did with BBC radio’s Zane Lowe could produce a top 10 Yeezy moments itself. In 2013 Kanye took the opportunity to get whatever he wanted off his chest with Zane, As much as Zane tried to direct the conversation towards Yeezus and buzz it had created after its release, Kanye was more interested in spouting his infamous rhetoric regarding subjects varying from fashions, to music via product marketing. It was an amazing insight into the inner workings of the Jesus Walks rapper, or for those that aren’t a fine it was a laughable insight into the mindset of a total narcissist. The conversation produced a slew of great Kanye quotes including; “Look at Gaga, she’s the creative director of Polaroid. I like some of the Gaga songs; what the f*** does she know about cameras” and my personal favourite “When someone comes up and says something like, ‘I am a God’, everybody says, Who does he think he is? I just told you who I thought I was: A God!”. It is definitely worth watching the interview to hear what else he had to say. 3. Imma Let You Finish Taylor Swift: Kanye West: VMA Awards 2009 - Imma Let You Finish For many this was the point that Kanye took it too far. When Taylor Swift won the 2009 VMA for best female music video over Beyonce, Kanye West let his displeasure be known. To shock of everyone in attendance and watching the VMA’s< Kanye took to the stage famously shouting “Taylor, Imma let you finish”. In typical Kanye fashion he didn’t just interrupt an acceptance speech, he created arguably the most memorable moment in award show history. His line of “Imma let you finish” is now one of the most famous quotes in modern pop culture, love or hate Kanye what he does makes waves. On such a big stage is displayed for everyone the type of ego Kanye has. At a moment when the spotlight should have been on Taylor Swift, Kanye grabbed that spotlight and place it firmly on in. in doing that, Taylor’s growing stock was catapulted into the stratosphere by proxy of being associated with Kanye and one of his Kanye moments. Everyone remembers that she won that award cause of that Kanye moment, you would struggle to name any other winners of that award than Taylor Swift. 2. Yeezy Did It Again GRAMMY Awards - Kayne West Crashes Beck's Album Of The Year Acceptance Speech Surely even Kanye wouldn’t rush the stage again, let alone at the Grammy’s, during the award for Best Album? Oh no, he will and he did. Beck won the Grammy for Best Album beating various artists to the accolade, including Beyonce. Queue Kanye. Rather than going full explosion though it came across as a comedic stunt, following Beck onto stage and then restraining himself from grabbing the mic. Bring on the laughs, Kanye playing the joker, Beyonce beat again throwback to the T-Swift incident. This was the scenario till in the after show for the Grammy’s Kanye took his interview as an opportunity to say what he is thinking. The monologue that followed said that they (referring to the Grammy’s) need to stop “disrespecting the artistry” as they won’t accept it anymore. So what appeared an act of comedy initially was actually slow build to his eventual outburst letting it be known that Beck didn’t have album of the year. 1. "George Bush Does Not Care About Black People" https://www.yzIUzLpO1kxIoutube.com/watch?v= During a Red Cross appeal for Hurricane Katrina, a variety of celebrities were hired to help promote the Red Cross and gain pledges for the Hurricane Katrina relief. Kanye however, took this as opportunity to go off script ignoring his teleprompter and getting on his soapbox. The result was that Kanye managed to create arguably one of the most awkward moments in television history. Paired with Mike Meyers for their segment of the appeal, Kanye manages to leave the former SNL alum baffled as Kanye ignores the script and goes off tangent talking about the portrayal of ‘black people’ in the media coverage of the devastating hurricane saying “if it’s a black family they are looting, it is a white family they say they are looking for food”. When Mike thinks he has got the piece back on track Kanye ends the segment with the proclamation that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”. In ensuing awkward silence seems to last a life time before it cuts to an uncomfortable Chris Tucker whose left to get on with his segment. It was typical example of Kanye not doing anything in half measures, he took the national live audience and does what he does best and this is doing and saying what he wants.
