Martha Wells is a damn good author, you should read her stuff if you haven’t already. I was introduced to her sci-fi via murderbot diaries, but the Raksura books are also pretty compelling fantasy.

I feel like one of the big themes in her writing is the acknowledgment that people can be very different from place to place, but still feel very similar, and a lot of seemingly superficial differences can be larger than the more obvious ones.

I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
