Thoughts on Frozen "joining" RotBTD
Hi guys, so this has been on my mind for a while since I keep seeing a lot of mixed opinions about an “official” addition of Elsa and Anna into the fandom, and I just wanted to share my own thoughts about this. I know I’m pretty late, but better late than never! I’m not going to show any bias here, so don’t worry.
Remember, RotBTD in itself is not official. Besides the characters and their respective films, there is nothing canonical about the Big Four. We MADE UP the idea that these four kids form a bond, and how they interacted was up to every fan’s own discretion. People created AUs of the kids, contributed artwork, gifs, fanmade videos, and fanfics, and through these contributions, the fandom was able to grow and gain a huge following. However, that does not mean our fandom ever became official in the tiniest bit. The only way RotBTD would truly be legit is if DreamWorks and Disney put aside their rivalry, disregarded the original plots of each of the films, and threw the kids together in a movie (which would be the most radical and controversial thing to ever exist in the history of animated films, and I mean radical in a bad way). Now, since the chance of that ever happening is zero, we don’t have to worry about official-ness at all within the fandom. And so, if there was never anything official about RotBTD in the first place, why does there need to be an “official” addition of these two sisters? It’s not like we had to do a vote in who’d be in the Big Four before. It just happened! Therefore, if you want to have the two girls included in the group, so be it! Make it become the Big/Super Six/RotFBTD/RotBFTD/RotBTFD or whatever. If you don’t want have the two girls included, that’s completely fine too! Keep it to the original idea. I’m just so annoyed of all this debating and bickering when all of it is really just a baseless battle of opinions. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
It’s like back when the DreamWorks film Epic came out, we had the same issue happen where people asked if they could include Kat and Nod in the group. Once again, there were those who were ecstatic about the idea, and there were those who were outright B4 purists. Ah, but look now. Are we Rise of the Epic Brave Tangled Dragons, or RotBETD, or RotBTED? No. We’re still Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons. Regardless of whether or not we include other characters to interact with or become a part of the Big Four, the name of the fandom remains, because that’s just what we’re all used to (like the superwholock fandom for example). That, and changing the title to fit in other movies is really just a pain in the arse for a lot of people, like lazy ol’ me. Getting back to the topic of Epic, occasionally we still see characters from that movie being included in gifsets with Big Four and what not. The same thing will happen to Frozen. The hype will fade. We’ll still see works including Anna and Elsa interacting with the Big Four of course, but we are still going to remain as RotBTD.
Most likely this is going to be a cycle guys. I’m sure with every CGI movie that comes out, the fandom is gonna go ballistic and wonder if they should include the new characters along with the Big Four. And the same argument I’m making now will apply to all those future movies: whether or not new characters are included alongside the Big Four is up to YOUR OWN discretion! We are one of the biggest non-canon fandoms out there after all! And shucks, it doesn’t even have to apply to new movies! If you’ve been in the fandom since its beginnings, you’ll realize that people have included characters outside of the B4 movies for a LONG time, with films such as Hotel Transylvania, Paranorman, Wreck-it-Ralph, The Lorax, and more!
So please, if you want to show off your work that includes the Big Four with other characters, feel free to do so, but please don’t try to cause a revolution in our fandom by trying to persuade people to change our fandom name for good — I mean you could try! But most likely that’s not going to happen for reasons stated above. If you want the Big Four to remain as the Big Four, feel free to do so, but please don’t rain on the parade of those who want to expand the Big Four, because most likely they’re still gonna do what they want, and probably even more passionately because you’re provoking them.
I guess that’s everything I wanted to say about this FrozenxRotBTD issue. Gah, I just really needed to get that off my chest. I feel so much more relieved now. (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
