in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
just. please know. that giffing scenes like that is a fucking nightmare labor of love.
to wit:
bottom's the raw capture, middle's just flat curve correction to make the footage visible, top is the final coloring with /counts seven adjustment layers to add back in Literally Anything But Yellow
every giffer i know does it out of love for the game, but for the record it's not... easy. it's not just slapping the footage in a cap grabber and posting whatever it spits out. "professional" lighting and color grading has only gotten waaay murkier and flatter in the fifteen years i've been giffing on here, so uh. don't repost gifs, please!
I thought the bottom was a black bar. I didn't even realize that was footage.
Everyone say thank you to your neighbourhood GIF maker! Giffers are so important to the fannish ecosystem, but to so many people the amount of work involved invisible.
its so weird like this dog is truly so... like no dog is perfect. or rather, no dog perfectly and easily fits into the modern expectations of an unchallenging housepet without some training/guidance, I should say. there's some stuff about her that is going to be somewhat challenging probably at some point, because she is a dog. but largely I just keep being like "she's fine"
like she's just ... fine? she is fine.
loose in a weird place and heavily pregnant? worried but fine. seeing strange person emerge from car nearby? fine. be captured by this person happily and allow them to put you places and do stuff to you? fine. be contained on a back porch alone much of the day where all your needs are met but there's not a lot of room to roam and people aren't there with you 24/7? fine. being leashed up and walked? fine. being put in a car and taken around to various locations? fine. getting her jabs at the shelter clinic? fine. having the shelter employees bring out another intact female pitbull to see how she would react (OH MY GOD WHY DID THEY DO THIS WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS? BUT--) somehow fine. see a loose cat walking around in the parking lot near you? fine. get an X-ray at the vet? fine. techs even remarked that she was unusually cooperative, like to a notable degree. jumpscared by a random malamute emerging from a room right in front of your nose? fine. see some kittens thru a glass window? fine. being left alone all night with just the radio on? fine. have people nearby when you have a REALLY good chew? fine. in fact actively wants to share.
like who is this dog. she immediately loves and trusts every human she meets. she gets worried about stuff but then she looks at her person and sees if they think it's a big deal or not and if they don't think it's a big deal she shakes it off. I opened an umbrella in front of her like people do for puppy temperament tests, and she just startled back a bit in surprise, glanced at Ship and at me, saw that we didn't think it was a threat, and dismissed it. she was just like "OH GOHS WHAT IS THAT, hey new friends what is that is it ok?" and we said "it's ok, I am familiar with this object and it is not a threat" and she said "oh okay phew thanks for telling me, now I know this object is safe :)"
^ translation of our nonverbal conversation translated into Human Words :)
I'm high and I'm just like thinking about how much I love talking to animals
bc you are always talking to them with your body language and if you do it on purpose, they will understand you and they will talk back to you. and you can understand them and talk back to them and they will understand you :) I love learning and knowing about dogs and how they communicate because it makes these conversations even clearer to me because it means I am learning their language better! and I can tell because of their behavior! i love nonverbal communication so much I LOVE DOGS I LOVE DOGS I LOVE DOGS.

Transformation is an art in which one manipulates a vast quantity of aether to construct another body around oneself.
In practice, this allows one to assume any conceivable form, and thereby transcend the limits of one's flesh.
Yet convenient though it may be, transforming in the presence of others is considered vainglorious in the extreme. As uncouth and unseemly as running about robeless. Shameful.
And they look awesome when they do it

2-YEAR CHEDDAR
from GRAFTON VILLAGE
I usually try to review cheeses virginally - that is, ones that I’ve never had before. In this case, this is a cheddar I’ve had many times before. But I couldn’t leave it off the blog, what with its obvious appeal to leather and rubber fetishists.
As far as cheddars go, Grafton’s 2-year aged isn’t going to shock you. It’s mild, light on the salt, with a slightly sweet and grassy flavour. It’s got a nice texture. It’s dense, more moist than I expected, and smooth.
So what is the deal with the gummi suit on this cheese anyway? Well, cheese has obviously been around a lot longer than fridges. Fresh cheeses like mozzarella are too moist to last very long outside of a cold place (bacteria and fungi do so love damp places), though I don’t think anyone was too mad about eating that stuff quickly. But cheeses that have been aged (and dried) more have some more preservation options, which is where cheese wax comes in. The wax is a physical barrier, stopping fungal spores from landing, and also blocks moisture and air, making the cheese a pretty unfriendly place to grow. Even drier cheeses can be bandaged in cheesecloth and then slathered in lard to preserve them while allowing some ventilation.
I gotta admit: hot wax isn’t really my thing. But cheesecloth bondage and grease… it has potential.
this site used to be awesome
there’s a post on tumblr about like. if you could do something to bring people a little relief, why wouldn’t you do it? which has unironically informed my practice as a nursing student and patient care tech
i’m glad no one made any unpleasant comments on this post that might distract from the message because that would really suck
I think it's funny world-building how like, so at the center of Life we've got Water. Arguably The most important resource. Colorless transparent substance that molds to any container and we die without it and quickly. And all organic functions of society hinge on its availability. Could fight a ton of wars over this thing.
And well beyond organic life, modern society's great human invention is the Electronic Magic. Our greatest minds invented the Electronic Magic and it sends information around the world instantly. Our infrastructure our economy our modern life, minute by minute by minute, hinges on utilizing the great Lighting Technology.
BUT ☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️ DO NOT. DO NOT EVER. get the magical Elixir Substance of Life and Living and Healing, Water, IN the Electronic Device. The water keeps you alive critically but it KILLS the Electronic Device instantly and catastrophically. This Says something.
and this Says something...
