what people dont understand about Astarion (or at least those who claim to dislike his character) is that ultimately, deep, deep down in his core he is a goofy ass guy. Like he is a silly billy. He loves a laugh and he will go to great lengths to get a little giggle. he loves it when you tease and pull his leg also. he loves when you can take a joke and he is even happy when you do dangerous, albeit FUNNY shit. I love that about his character cause he will turn something super dark into super funny and I think thats one of his best qualities. Also, another thing: he is not dramatic (Gale - I will blow myself up at any earliest inconvenience- Of Waterdeep is), on the contrary, Astarion is just theatrical af. Big difference. He likes to perform, to show off but he understands is for the jokes of it. i think that if not turned tortured and perhaps if he was raised in the wilds, im sure he would come to baldurs gate to be some sort of showman leading an acting troupe or somth. he would still be a little shit dont get me wrong
Very, very much this. This is man who should have laugh lines. He's a weirdo, and not because he's a vampire, or the trauma. He's just fucking weird, man, and he does not care because he stands 10 toes on his opinions.
The first thing Astarion ever asked me was how I wanted to die and it was an icebreaker that he was giggling all the way through. It wasn't a threat, and sure, he threw in a few smolders but it really wasn't even a flirt, he just thinks death is hilarious.
Which when you are a corpse that is so bad at being dead you just get up everyday and walk around is pretty much the only sane reaction.
