Hospitalized Headcanons: Part 2 (Robert Robertson, Sonar, Flambae, & Punch Up x gn!speedster!reader)
Warnings: cursing, mentions of injury, comas, hospitals, all that jazz. Hurt/comfort, bit of angst with some fluff thrown in! (Words: 1.8k)

PART ONE | MY MASTERLIST
Robert
- He’s the one who called the ambulances the moment he saw you in a heap over the security cameras, who rode with you in the ambulance, and who spent hours half-asleep in the waiting room.
- Robert’s drowsily watching the clock tick by, too exhausted to even feel the adrenaline still coursing through his veins
- He’s barely drifting off when he’s finally called, and shoots to his feet faster than he thought possible, making his way somewhat stiffly towards the room the nurse indicated
- He pauses just outside the room, though. He freezes, and he doesn’t know why, but he takes a deep breath and opens the door anyway
- Seeing you in that hospital bed was nothing short of gut-wrenching for him. He feels like throwing up, with how rough you look, plugged into three different machines and bruised all over:
- But he stays nonetheless, in that shitty plastic chair by your bed, until your eyes open and you let out a croaky noise that brings tears to his eyes no matter how embarrassing.
- You’re alive.
- He’s your absolute biggest advocate while you’re in the hospital, too.
- You need a pillow, he’s on it. You really hate the food they gave you? He’ll ask for salt and maybe snag something from the vending machine.
- He’s as helpful as he can possibly be, not just because he feels horrible about what happened and is still terrified he’ll lose you. Totally not just because of that.
- The moment you’re free to go, he stands up and offers to take you home. Once you clarify that you want to go to YOUR home, not the bed-less lawn chair apartment he calls a living space, he offers you a nudge and a grin but obliges.
- While you’re on medical leave, you force him to go back to dispatching, insisting you can take care of yourself.
- And he does, but he refuses to pull those doubly-long shifts while you’re at home. He’s right there with you the moment he clocks out.
- He admits at this point that he was horrified. Absolutely, disgustingly scared that you wouldn’t wake up.
- And whatever you do to comfort him, he remembers it. That stays with him forever, long after you return to the field again in tiptop shape.
Sonar
- He’s halfway across the city, probably at Crypto Night or some other bar after the party at Robert’s, when he hears distant explosions.
- His first thought is to ignore it— it’s LA. There’s gonna be idiots blowing shit up.
- But it stuck with him throughout the night, and kept him awake as he lay in bed, only slightly buzzed instead of his usual drunkenness after an evening like this.
- In the middle of the night, he gets a call (from Robert, no less), and his heart just sinks. His suspicions were confirmed, but at what cost?
- He’s a little bit nervous about heading over as he’s tying his shoes, fumbling with the laces before going to catch a cab. He may be a bit of a reckless driver on a good day, but tonight he didn’t want to fuck up getting there.
- He gets to your room, and just sort of stands there. He doesn’t know what to do, so he watches from the doorway.
- He doesn’t realize how much time has passed until a nurse he didn’t recognize pushed past him to check your vitals. He checked his watch— it was the asscrack of dawn, the time having flown by like it was nothing.
- Not soon after, while he’s taking a little bit of a breather outside, he gets word that you’re awake, and asking for him. Well, he supposed you knew what you were doing, as the nurse who came to get him seemed to be specifically looking for a half-bat looking guy such as himself.
- Drops something sappy the moment he walks in. I’m talking something like “hello gorgeous”, or “come here often?”.
- Tries so hard to be there and useful while you’re recovering, but also can’t get fired from SDN. He’s there as much as he possibly can, and you know this, but during the majority of his work hours he, regretfully, can’t really run off to hang out with you.
- Total yapper while you’re stuck in bed, telling you about his stocks and crypto, the team, how many bad guys they beat the shit out of that day— and you really do appreciate it, it gives you that sense of normalcy you can’t find in the hospital.
- Once you’re back on your feet, and allowed to return home, he’s a total cuddle bug, especially if you’re still injured and warmth such as heating pads or bath would help
- He’ll make a little routine out of getting home from work and curling around you, sometimes in bat form, to keep you happy and comfortable.
- Once you’re headed back to work, he’s overjoyed to see you in the break room again. You’re the person he talks to the most, and he’s so glad that you’re alive, well, and there as a listening ear once again.
Flambae
- He’s dozing off just as Robert’s number pops up on his phone, and he answers, just planning to scream at him, but the mention of your name has his flames extinguishing in a second.
- As soon as he knows the bare minimum— what happened, where you were now, and nothing else— he’s darting out the window, not even caring that he’s in sweatpants and a t-shirt.
- Threatening the poor hospital staff until one of them finally tells him what room they took you to.
- With no regard for anyone else, he nearly kicks down the door in a firey fit of rage, but he slows at the sight of you.
- You’re looking up at him, bleary-eyed and definitely worse for wear, and he feels the candle go out entirely.
- At your side immediately, sitting on the edge of the bed and squeezing your hand, uncharacteristically silent and looking somewhat uncertain.
- You try and encourage him to get on the bed with you, since he’s a walking space heater, but he refuses, not wanting to mess with any of the machinery plugged into you.
- While you’re recovering, he’s surprisingly a bit of a sweetheart. He’s there and willing to blow off hero work for you, but he’s also trying to keep your spirits up. Telling shitty puns, jokingly making fun of the stricter nurses behind their backs with you.
- It’s a little strange, but you know he just hates to see you upset.
- One night, when he thinks you’re asleep, you hear mumbled curses, and crack one eye open. You see him with his face buried in his hands, trembling slightly, and you watch tears turn into steam as they try and fail to roll down his face.
-You opt to say nothing, for the sake of his dignity (and ego), but you find it hard to ignore that night.
- The hospital stay begins to feel more like a slog than ever once you’re mostly healed, and they just keep you around to “keep an eye on you”.
- Chad knows how much you just want to go home, and sneaks you out for little flights periodically, after learning the nurses’ schedules. They hate him, but it’s so worth it in his mind.
- Once you’re back home, he’s bringing you meals between shifts from your favourite takeout places, paired with a kiss on the forehead, before he has to dart back to his time making up all of the work he skipped.
-He’s so down for movie night or at-home karaoke, something where the two of you can goof off and be near each other while you’re in the safety of either his or your place, where he can keep an eye on you.
- Once you’re in the field, he’s SO protective. Especially with Robert, who he begins to blame for all of this. It’s gonna take a lot of convincing to get him to believe otherwise.
Punch Up
- The moment Robert lets him know what happened, he’s gone from whatever else he’s doing at that moment. No distractions, no side tasks, he is going to see you and make sure you’re still breathing if it kills him.
- When he gets to where you’re laying, in a hospital bed looking like someone picked you up and wrung you out, he curses under his breath, hopping up onto the chair next to you.
- You’re so peaceful there, unlike anything he hears about the event that led to this. He doesn’t doubt that you threw yourself in danger for a teammate, but he can’t help but think it was a stupid choice.
- Once you’re up, and wanting to get the hell Ori of this bed, he has to hold you down while explaining the extent of your injuries, parroting what the doctor had told him. You are not, under any circumstances, leaving this bed for a while.
- Sort of takes on a guard dog role there, pushing away anyone you don’t want around while keeping you in the place you need to be to heal properly.
- Is this what babysitting is like? You keep trying to get out of bed! Get the hell back under those covers!!
- As you slowly heal, he’s more willing to go around to places with you. He takes you on a few walks outdoors, with the staff’s permission, and jokingly suggests arm wresting a few times just to see the veins in the nurse’s temple.
- Once you’re fixed up enough to go home, he still insists on carrying you places. He doesn’t quite have a reason, he just thinks it’s funny, and you don’t seem to mind in the slightest.
- He’ll come home to you after a long day, and will want to be near you physical all evening. He’ll sit next to you, have a hand on your shoulder or arm, brush his pinky against yours… he just wants to be close to you! A scare like that is gonna make him a little bit clingier.
- He’s very affectionate throughout this whole thing. He knows he needs to keep you motivated, so bribing you with a kiss is key for getting you to take the healing seriously.
- Once you’re on the cusp of being fully healed, he has this long argument with Robert about bringing you back onto the team early, resulting in a thrown chair, from what you’d heard.
- You finally manage to sneak your way back onto the team, feeling better than ever, and he’s lifting twice the weight he usually can out of excitement and a newfound enthusiasm now that you’re around once again.
- He loves his partner in crime! Can you blame him?
