English major math problem: my desire to binge-read books unrelated to coursework is exponentially increased by my lack of desire to read books related to coursework
High School English Teachers: This is how you interpret it. This is how it is. Explain why it’s like that. That’s what that means. Annotate the text. I’m going to be very particular about this.
College English Professors: What is your interpretation? Why? Question that. Question everything. Question what I’m telling you right now. Question your own thoughts. Question my thoughts. I don’t know everything. Nothing is certain. F*ck. Just do the reading. I don’t care if you annotate or not. Just prove you’re using your brain. Say something! Sh*t I’m tired of you being quiet. Participation is 20% of your grade you know.

One of the worst parts about being a literature major is that I don’t have any time to read their recommendations because I’m drowning in assigned reading for their class.
i have literally never identified with anything so strongly
My professors: Everything in literature is intentional. Every word is carefully chosen. It all has meaning. The writers are very careful.
Me, an actual writer: *rereads something I just wrote* Did I… just accidentally reference mythbusters?
Tolkien is 1000% done.
