We don't see it in game, but in World of Thedas it's stated that there are in fact people who absolutely have magical abilities, but are weak enough that they don't have to go to the circles.

This is what makes me think of Felix. Who we hear from Dorian carried little magic but is still considered a mage in Tevinter. Just a very poor one. Pallor tricks he says. Small things but still able to access mana. honestly I think about that a lot. Like how many people had just odd talents. How many rulers they tout as high minded or foresight was because their magical talent was something that wasn't throwing fire balls or healing people. How they structured themselves (and this is for all of thedas, including Tevinter) around destructive or manipulative or outright things instead of the small subtle magics. You can imagine there would be more people like that mentioned even if they're so heavy magic focused even though he know they exist (Idunna for example even though she uses bloodmagic its not like blood sacrifice and not everyone can use it, also Illario. also see Fenris! who survived a process that killed others and ultimately broke the machine) but THAT is the thing. They are subtle magic users and the story keeps them that way, especially in the narrative. Something easily brushed off.

I think about The Man of the Hole so often. 27 years alone. 27 years with no one to speak to but strangers to wave to. Survived a genocide, a massacre that killed everyone he had ever known and later, an assassination attempt. He still tried to warn researches about the traps he built. He was only about 60 when he died in 2022. The people who tormented him in life later desecrated his grave.

I do think it is important to share the stories of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island and Ishi and the countless other indigenous people who experienced the profound trauma of being the last survivor but it is important to remember that the last Aboriginal families in Australia to be contacted by Europeans were resettled in the 1980s and the Indian government has proposed a plan that will mean total genocide for the Shompen people. The total eradication of indigenous peoples, their cultures, their languages, their ways of life, is not something which occurred in a distant ugly past but an ongoing process.
