Akashic Records
By: Jessica Bachand
October 30, 2017
Akashic Records are the metaphysical records of your soul: every thought, feeling, and action your soul has ever had, across all the lifetimes your soul has lived (“Akashic Records-The Book of Life,” n.d.). This is a fairly new concept for me, something I was introduced to only about two years ago, as a reference in a fictional book; Ren: Awakened by Brittany Quagan. Knowing this was a work of fiction inspired by true events, I asked Brittany if the part about Akasha was real or something she made up, and she affirmed they are, in fact, real. I needed to know more. I started Googling, watching whatever Youtube videos came up about them, buying up books on the topic, seeking out readers. I wanted to learn everything I could about them, I NEEDED to learn everything I could about them. I can’t explain why I felt drawn to them, but the first time I opened my own, it was as if I’d found something I’d sought for a long time. I’d been doing a lot of intuitive development work, trying different methods of reading, and this is what worked for me. This provided a particular visualization or access point for the information I was seeking.
Some say that the Akashic Records is the source of all the information psychics, mediums, intuitives, etc. receive, whether this is a conscious effort or not. It’s entirely possible that we’re all accessing these records in a variety of ways, whether we know it or not. There’s another belief that the Akashic Records hold the information specifying where your own personal gifts come from, and what you’re expected to do with them in this lifetime (Andrews & Andrews, 2010). In general, these records can help us to understand individuals’ (or our own) life paths and purposes, and to understand in general. If one believes that our souls’ general purposes are to learn in this incarnation, the Akashic Record is the textbook or History book that helps us do it. They tell us what happened, they tell us why it happened, and they tell us what we can use that information for. The most important thing conveyed by these records is that each one of us is here at the exact right time, in the exact right place and that each life, no matter how short or long, has purpose and meaning (Andrews & Andrews, 2010).
Another purpose for the Akashic Records is for keeping track of debts and balances. The Bible identified the Book of Life as serving this purpose: one’s record of deeds is reviewed, and if good deeds outweigh bad deeds, that soul then goes to heaven. Hindus measure debts and balances in terms of karma: all actions have consequences, and at the time of death there is a life review in which one’s karmic debt is determined which helps define the conditions of their next incarnation (Andrews & Andrews, 2010). The Egyptians recognize “The Hall of Two Truths” as serving this purpose. History shows us that many different cultures have different methods of accessing “higher knowledge” and spiritual wisdom, but when you boil it down, it’s all the same thing: no matter what you call it, there is evidence that the belief in such metaphysical records is very wide spread.
So why would anyone want to read the Akashic Records? Certainly it is enticing to access the records for any of the reasons we’ve already reviewed. One can imagine it’d be quite handy to know where your karmic debts lie, or what your life purpose is. But there’s so much more to be learned than this. The Akashic Records can help us to understand relationships in our lives, learn how past lives influence present problems, to discover the origin of health issues, and what can be done to help them heal, for direction related to career and business, for addressing fears and overcoming them, for accessing our own talents, as well as soul growth and spiritual development. This is just a small list of what these records can help us do. The possibilities and boundaries seem endless. The Akashic Records are the filing cabinets of all our live, and, much like the physical filing cabinets in our lives, sometimes we need to look back at what we stored, in order to move ahead.
