I want a story about a king whose son is prophesied to kill him so the king is like âwhatever what am I supposed to do, kill my own kid wtf is wrong with youâ so he just raises him as normal, doesnât even tell him about the prophecy, and instead of some convoluted twist of events that leads to the kingâs murder the son grows up and when the king is very old and dying and in excruciating pain the kid is just like alright I'mma put him out of his misery.
The kingâs son becomes the new king, and is prophesied to defeat evil and bring an age of prosperity. His generals and knights all crack their knuckles but he pretty much ignores them and focuses on strengthening the infrastructure of his kingdom. Forty years later he is old and sick but still hearing his subjectsâ grievances, and a generalâs like âhow will you defeat the prophesied evil now? Youâre old and weak.â Another visitor, a teenager fresh out of the kingdomâs public education system, looks at the general like he is an ignoramus. The king eradicated poverty, housed the homeless, taught the ignorant, ended class exploitation by abolishing the nobility and imprisoning the corrupt, and established a highly respected guild of doctors that recently figured out how to cure the plague. There are no brigands because there is enough wealth for everyone to live comfortably; hiding in the woods and taking trinkets from people simply doesnât make any sense for anyone but the desperate, and the people are not desperate. Evil is a weed, explains the teenager. It grows in cracked roads and crumbling houses and forgotten corners, rooted in indifference and watered by suffering. But the king demands that broken things be mended and suffering people be made well.
No evil lives in this kingdom, says the teenager. It starved to death before I was born.
Oh yes.

âThey look nothing liââ
âLOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THEY ARE.â
for some reason I really like that sheâs called Hilda.
This happened on my grandmothers farm when my mom was little,
baby ducks act a lot like baby chickens so in the beginning it wasnât so bad
the main problem is that baby ducks  LOVE water, but baby chickens get very very dead from it,
so you can imagine the mother hens surprise and horror the first time they go by the farm pond and ALL THE BABIES RUN TO THE WATER AND JUMP IN
my grandmother had to come out of the house to investigate all the noise the hen was making
The mother hen was clucking and screeching in distress and running circles around the pond while the duckies were having the time of their lives.
This happened a few more times before Momma hen was like FUCK IT YOU WANNA SWIM SEE WHAT I CARE , and would sit a distance away watching them in the pond.
if the ducks ever abandoned any eggs my grandmother would always put it under that particular hens nest cause from then on she always knew how to deal with her âwater lovingâ delinquent children

A PSA about trucks from a truck driver
I and some colleagues were talking about how we wish everyone could see the safety videos that our company was showing us, because I donât think most people understand how traffic works in a truck. So hereâs some things we wish everyone on the road knew.
- weâre not kidding about tailgating. If youâre right behind us on a straight highway? Chances are we have NO IDEA youâre there, which means we canât anticipate any of your movements. Plus slowing down takes multiple downshifts, so we might start decreasing speed way earlier than you expect.
- Weâre not kidding about any of our blind spots. WE CANâT SEE YOU, GUYS.
- That bit about slowing down taking a while? The same goes for when youâre in front of us. Donât cut off a truck. Oh god, PLEASE donât cut off a truck. If you cut me off, Iâm not irritated, Iâm terrified. For YOU. It can take 7 to 9 seconds for us to stop. DONâT CUT OFF TRUCKS.
- Before you get mad about how slow weâre going on the highway, keep in mind that many companies govern their vehicles so they literally CANâT go over 60 or 65. This is a good thing, I promise. BecauseâŠ
- Do you know what happens when a car meets a truck in an accident? The car gets totaled and the truck needs a new coat of paint. You will not win this fight. I know nobody likes getting stuck behind a big dumb truck, but itâs not worth your life.
We are trying our best to protect you from our 80,000 pound death machines. Please help us out.
This information is actually useful. Thanks for posting.
i love journalism
So ,Iâm a music teacher and every year we have what are called âwalk through observationsâ. Basically, this means that 4 times a year the principal or vice principal comes into my class to assess my teaching. Fine. Sure. No problem. Well, today I was doing an activity with my 1st graders called âMusical Groceriesâ. Basically, they make up a fake shopping list and then together we figure out what the rhythm of the words on the list is. To do that, a small group of students plays the beat on the conga drum while the rest of the students move around the room while chanting the word. It sounds weird but itâs a great way for the kids to figure out the relationship between syllables and rhythm. They quickly get bored of walking the rhythm so I let them come up with their own ways of moving around the room.( skipping, hopping, etc) One student suggested they hop around the room like frogs, way down low to the ground. Okay fine. Or it was fine until my vice principal walked in to do my observation only to find 20 seven year olds hopping around the room like a hoard of little hob-goblins, rhythmically chanting âBREAD! BREAD! BREAD!â while five other kids played ominous beats in a drum circle. I have never seen anyone look so confused in my life and I really donât want to know the rating I got on my observation.
I need feminism because-
A man in a room full of women is ecstatic. A woman in a room full of men is terrified.
this blew my mind
do u ever feel like youâve accidentally tricked certain people into thinking you are smarter and have more potential than you actually do and do you ever think about how disappointed theyâll be when you inevitably crash and burn
Fun fact: Impostor Syndrome is ridiculously common among high-achievers, particularly women. If you identify with this post, odds are pretty good that youâre exactly as smart as people think you are, and the failure youâre afraid of isnât inevitable at all.
Even Maya Angelou stated, âI have written 11 books, but each time I think, âUh oh, theyâre going to find out now. Iâve run a game on everybody, and theyâre going to find me out.ââ
and donât forget this is one of the psychological barriers placed in by thousands years of patriarchy and male supremacy.
My computer science professor actually talked about this on the first day, it was really cool.
Fun brutal fact: in addition to the existence of imposter syndrome, being âtwice exceptionalâ (also known as 2e) is also a thing. That means being intellectually gifted AND ALSO having a disability that affects your ability to succeed at study or work. Such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc etc etc. A lot of people believe that itâs not possible to be both, but it very much is.
Society tends to have very high expectations for how well gifted people will perform. Society tends to have low expectations for how well disabled people will perform. Society tends to attribute invisible disabilities, including mental illness, to a failure of willpower or effort or a bad attitude.
So if you read this post and went âno, but seriously, this is not just low self esteem on my part, people keep thinking Iâm smart and then I keep crashing and burning and disappointing them and they canât understand why I didnât live up to their expectations, it happens again and again and when I tell someone how I feel and ask for help, they just tell me to stop being so hard on myself and that Iâll succeed if I have more self-confidence,â it is not just you.
(Also, one of the previous posts in this thread buried the lede a little. Imposter syndrome is ridiculously common in people from underrepresented groups in academia and other high pressure/high status fields, particularly women and people of colour. Maya Angelou did not only feel out of place because she was a woman.)
This essay also totally changed my view on the intersection of impostor syndrome and mental illness.
Good job!
Bats take care of us. Theyâre a big part of the reason why we can enjoy bananas, avocados, and tequila, because their poop spreads seeds that help to pollinate at least 300 fruits. They also take care of each other, because vampire bats will regurgitate blood for their bat neighbors who donât have any food. Source
