Law enforcement continues using bunk science (hair matching, bite mark analysis, blood spatter analysis, drug sniffing dogs, polygraphs, etc) because they are convenient and because admitting that they're bullshit would lead to countless convictions being thrown out the window and likely a massive fllood oof lawsuits not just from people who were wrongfully convicted but also from the families of those executed over pseudoscientific methods.

Just in case people didn't know, drug sniffing dogs are almost always reacting to their HANDLERS, not to actual smells. If a handler's body language shows they want the dog to give an alert (which the dog will be awarded for), then the dog will alert. This is true even if the handler isn't consciously giving any signs or commands.

It's estimated that only around 30%, often found to be even less, of drug sniffing dog alerts are actually accurate and the vast majority of those real alerts are for things like a baggie of weed.

And of course that's not even getting into cops who use dogs as a quick excuse when they're planting evidence.
