It’s weird how Tumblr was a big part of my internet activity for a long time and I stopped being active a few years ago. But hey, I made this account when I was an awkward 13 year old middle schooler. I’m now a senior in college preparing graduate!!  I still go on sparingly, but it’s kind of sad seeing how a lot of my favorite blogs are inactive now. I’ve been wanting to write a personal update for awhile, but found myself hesitating as I attempted to document certain moments in my life here. I would type a few sentences and quickly abandon post. I guess I’m feeling more reflective since I only have a few months of schooling left. 

But yeah, I’d say things went pretty well for me these past 4 years. I had a lot of self doubt and confidence issues before heading into college. High school felt very toxic. Every time I drive past my old high school, I breath a sigh of relief and feel grateful that I’m not in high school anymore. I honestly felt slightly ashamed that I was going to SJSU because some people kept telling me it’s a bad school and I should go to a UC. Well, I messed up my grades sophomore year, so I definitely wasn’t going to get into any UC I wanted to go to. I know I wasn’t stupid, but I certainly felt stupid receiving those rejection emails. I’m glad I learned how to value myself and stopped comparing myself to others a lot. I can’t help feel envious of other people’s accomplishments sometimes, but I know my time will come. I certainly have some things to celebrate though: I’m graduating on time with honors and no debt, I made some friends during my time at SJSU that I would like to keep in contact with after graduating, maintained friendships with high school pals I love, like the job I’ve held at school for the past 5 semesters (I definitely need to hunt for a real job though lol), I’m doing well in my classes, and I can give pretty good presentations now!! One thing I regret not doing sooner is getting more involved on campus through various organizations. Like yeah, I have friends, but I could have put more effort into networking and making more friends within my major. Overall, I think I’ve made my time at SJSU meaningful and somewhat fulfilling. People love to shit on SJSU, but I’ve met some genuinely kind, intelligent, and hardworking during my time here. Interacting with them has made me more humble and open minded. 

Even though a lot of things have changed over the past 4 years, I’m glad Nguyen and I are still together. Our 5th year anniversary is in April! It makes me a little sad that we’ve spent more time apart than together and it will most likely remain that way since he’ll be going to grad school, but we make it work. It’s kind of nice having other lives outside of each other, but I know at the end of the day there’s no one else I’d rather be with and I can’t wait for us to get married later. People always ask me how I can deal with a long distance relationship, but we pretty much talk all the time whenever we’re free so it’s almost like he isn’t gone. 

I admittedly have a lot of obstacles in my way, but I appreciate what I have. I’m grateful to the people and experiences in my life that have gotten me to where I am now.
