i saw an IWTV post by a Black woman who pointed out that a white costume designer for IWTV was saying that Claudia would have clip on earrings, unaware of the fact most Black girls would have had their ears pierced as a baby regardless of class. it was part of a larger thread about how Claudia's Black identity was given even less attention than Louis', focusing on writing her as the 'girl character' and not the 'Black girl character.'
in your opinion what are some things that make it obvious the writer is non Black or ignorant of Black culture, in the same vein as that and forgetting we wear bonnets and caps?
Everything I've ever written in my lessons tbh 😅
I can agree with that. I still think Claudia was still a good example of a Black woman who is Angry in the first two seasons, though at this point it begs the question of how much it could have been even better if Rolin respected Black people and their agency 😭 But I can see how you mean that we didn't really get to investigate Claudia's relationship with her Blackness overtly, via the writing, in the way we did Louis'.
EDIT: I AM SO SORRY I had this in the drafts and I do not remember where I was going at the time 😭
