I both hate and love the film Megan is missing because on one hand, yes it is an extremely harrowing film that deals with important subject matter, however the way that the film goes about depicting its own subject matter completely diminishes any of the real value in sharing a story of that nature. They exploit their own characters— distastefully might I add, in such a way that seems to almost poke fun at itself. You’re exploiting the very characters who you’re trying to make a commentary on being exploited about. Does that make sense? I feel this way with a Serbian film too, but that one’s just outward slop, and almost an entirely different rant. It also sucks because I’m one of those people who does see the value in films like that— like yes, talk about the gross and morally repulsive acts!! Creativity should have no censorship no matter how uncomfortable it makes you!! These things *should* be discussed, but there’s such a direct difference in execution. Ugh. Idk. Rant over.
