How did Burnie Burns create one of the most evocative portrayals of what it means to be a woman character in a male centric show, the idea of being made into a projection of a memory to the point where you are never allowed to be your own person, the idea that all they’ll remember of you is your failure, and how it is programmed into you, being not a person but a memory, to always try and always fail…. That had to have been on accident

the way thel’s voice shifts into a slightly higher octave and speaks a bit softer when he finally gets to ask 343 about the truth of the halo rings, his expression upon finally confirming his entire faith was a lie and the exasperation of the prophet’s betrayal, and yet he still tries to reason tartarus 🥺🥺😭

god i just love his entire journey in halo 2 so much

God, right?? Thel’s arc is SO freaking good. I love how, even though Tartarus betrayed him and committed atrocities against his people, Thel still gently, earnestly tries to make Tartarus see the truth… because Tartarus is a reflection of who Thel ‘Vadam was just days ago.

Thing is, Thel’s hands are no cleaner than Tartarus’, are they? He too has committed atrocities in the name of dogma. Hell, he glassed Reach! And he was so indoctrinated into the cult of the Covenant that when Sesa one of his former men, tried to confront him with the truth about the Prophets’ manipulations, Thel killed the “Heretic” on the Prophets’ orders.

Now everything’s come full circle: Thel stands where Sesa did, confronting Tartarus with the truth, hoping that he can get through to the Brute Chieftain and help him see the truth. Doesn’t work, of course, but it says so much about Thel ‘Vadam’s growth that he makes such a genuine, honest effort to help someone who’s caused him and his people nothing but pain.
