CAN WE DISCUSS SPINEL’S BODY LANGUAGE FOR A SEC???

OKAY SO LIKE SPINEL, IN HER ORIGINAL FORM, IS VERY ANIMATED LIKE AN OLD TOON, V RUBBERHOSE, V NICE, WHICH MAKES SENSE SINCE SHE’S SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOFY PLAYMATE

AND EVEN AS A VILLAIN WE SEE THAT SPINEL IS STILL MAINTAINING THIS EXTRA LEVEL OF EXAGGERATED EXPRESSIONS AND MOVEMENT

WHICH YEAH EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT THAT BUT LIKE

NO ONE’S DISCUSSING HOW SHE ABSOLUTELY DROPS THIS ACT LATER ON IN THE MOVIE, PARTICULARLY IN “DRIFT AWAY” AND THE ENDING

EXCEPT FOR ONE LITTLE PART IN THE END WHERE SHE DOES THAT HEART ARM THING, SHE DOES NOT STRETCH OR GIVE ANY SEVERE EMOTIONS WHATSOEVER AND I THINK THATS SUPER INTERESTING LIKE- FROM AN ANIMATION STANDPOINT THIS IS OFTEN USED AND MY ANIMATION-LOVING HEART PICKED THIS UP RIGHT AWAY

WHILE WE’RE USED TO SEEING HER GOOFY AND EXAGGERATED, BY MAKING HER SUDDENLY SOLEMN AND NOT MOVING MUCH- IT FORCES US TO NOT ONLY TAKE HER MOVEMENTS SERIOUSLY AND NOT ALL GOOFY, BUT TO ALSO MAKE US FOCUS ON HER EXPRESSION WITHOUT DISTRACTION

I don't know if this has been asked yet, but I want to know: how would you rank the beachwear of the Equestria Girls cast, and how would you alter the lower ranked ones?

Twilight: Sticks a bit too close to her color scheme, but still have decent contrast–I’d want to give her a contrast accent of some kind. Other than that, it’s a cute enough cut, but nothing to right home about.

B TIER

Rainbow Dash: Cute top, and excellent color contrast. I can’t say the boy shorts are actually bad, but personally they just aren’t doing it for me.

C TIER

——

Rarity: Damn near flawless. That top is unique, appropriate to her style, and has excellent color contrast. The sarong is a perfect color/shade with shiny bits. At most I’d like her to wear the sarong a bit lower? But I’m just thirsty so ignore me.

S TIER

Applejack: I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I like it’s cut, but the colors… maybe they contrast too much?

C TIER

Ideally, I’d like RD’s top and AJ’s bottom to be put together (with appropriate colors for them both). That’d honestly make them both A TIER

Fluttershy: I can’t complain. The full-body suit makes sense for her, it’s good choice that contrasts with her color scheme while not fighting with it. I’d really so much prefer her to have a more standard one-piece. But I’m just thirsty still

B TIER

Pinkie: I don’t care for the juvenile quality of her suit. It really looks like something a 8-year-old would wear. Maybe it’s in character, but blegh. Also the colors match her color seem too identically not making enough interesting contrast.

I’m gonna move her to P TIER…

What can you say about the evolution of Sunset Shimmer's wardrobe?

Her first outfit was kinda mediocre, as was most everyone’s really. Her’s was still most compelling at the time, but compared to the outfits everyone is generally wearing now, her original just looks so bland…

BUT THEN THEY IMMEDIATELY UPGRADE TO PERFECTION

The color balance, the shapes, the entire aesthetic is just frickin amazing. There is literally nothing to dislike about this design and it’s quite possibly the most flawless fashion statement I’ve even seen from a fictional character ever.

Following that–

Her most recent almost seems like a direct remake of her original. It’s got roughly the same colors in the same places, but adds details and shapes that generate interest and the color balance is overall improved. Its a pretty darn good design, and I think it’s good these characters don’t ever stick to one outfit forever–but I still favor the previous one.

She’s had a variety of other outfits for specific moments, all of which are generally decent within their context. But special mention goes to her swimsuit–

In the episode "Discordant Harmony" we got two new Ponyville mares. The presumed owners of the tea and tea-set stores. What do you think of their respective designs?

There we go–I remember them now.

For both being very minor roles in a single episode, they’re perfectly good designs. I am partial to the first one, as her sky-blue eyes and ascot make for excellent color contrast. And the ascot itself is a unique looking accessory. I dig her mane/tail style too! Simple, but elegant and effective.

The second one, not so much. Her mane and tail style are incredibly unique (and super cute), which I appreciate, but I just feel like she doesn’t have enough color contrast. She just all around a peachy-biege, with little to break that up. I would have liked to see more green in her design, somehow. But even still, it’s not a bad design for a character with a small role.

Honestly? This movie is worth watching at least once just for the animation. I mean. Holy fuck. How often nowadays do you see 2D animation this smooth and detailed and characters given so much personality and charm through that attention to detail?

People have been talking about the animation, both good and bad for this movie, but this scene right here with Twilight crying is goddamn amazing in animation (and scene) quality. This shot right here is a perfect depiction of that gut wrenching, crying so hard your mouth is watering, kind of emotion. This scene gives me chills every time.

Ok this is like a HUGE song and character spoiler, but if this clip can convince anyone else who hasn’t seen or wasn’t entirely interested in the my little pony movie to go watch it, then it’s absolutely worth sharing. This movie is GORGEOUS with fantastic animation and deserves to be seen.
